It was already a few others in there, music was blasting, we were greeted as we walked in and given the option table or bar seating. The service was really good and friendly. Our waitress was Stacy and she was attentive and fast. Dena Kay also assisted and she was just a sweetheart. We indulged in the happy hour menu which has a good deal of options and the price is really good. The drinks and food are all $8.95 with the exception of 2 food items which are $9.95, still a good price. We had the passion fruit martini and margarita- both were good and not watered down. For food we had the yummy sticky wings, champagne mussels, fried chicken dumplings, and crab dip nachos. The champagne mussels were amazing! That sauce is to die for. The wings were good. The crab dip was tasty but I think it's a little too watery. The chicken dumplings were okay, nothing special. Only recommendation to management /DJs is to turn the music down just a tad. I rarely ever leave reviews, but after tonight I genuinely felt people should know what kind of experience we had here. My boyfriend suggested we come here after a long day at work to relax, eat, and watch the basketball game. To be fair, the music was good and we were greeted and seated immediately, so initially everything seemed fine. Unfortunately, things went downhill very quickly. I ordered a Caesar salad with salmon, and there was a ROACH in the food. Not near the plate. But crawling FROM my the salad. Completely unacceptable and honestly disturbing. The waitress apologized and offered to remake it free of charge. At that point I should have left, but I tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt and stayed. My last visit will be my LAST visit. When my hubby and I lived in Qns we used to patronize them all the time. We decided to purchase food from them on Father's Day since we were in Qns. We ordered online, the first app that appeared was Caviar. We put our order in and paid via Caviar. When we arrived to the restaurant, they said they don't use Caviar anymore (money and time wasted). I'm not sure why it is still listed as an option anymore, but we decided to put another order in and pay again because at this point, we just wanted to go home (I'm 9 months pregnant and due in three days). We waited for our food (again with this second order), and they stapled the bag and we went home. When we went home, we realize we didn't have our complete order. We called them and Joey said he would have to contact the manager Shanice so she can look at the cameras. They promised they would call us back. FOUR hours later (after 10pm) they called back and asked if I can come back to pick up the remainder of my order. I said no, I live far, I'm pregnant with a toddler, it's Father's Day and work in the morning. I asked for a refund for the missing entree and they said no. The only option is that I would have to order fries or a small order on UberEats and they would deliver the rest of the meal. I explained to them that THEY made a mistake with my order and not only did I have to wait FOUR hours for them to call back to own up to their mistake and stay hungry at 9 months pregnant for my husband's Father's Day meal (we had to share one entree), but now they expect me to order on UberEats and pay for another order and delivery. The music was a tad loud which led to folks trying to talk with each other over the music. But, alas, the crowd is a bit younger (25 to 40's). I'd come again...oh I forgot the drink selection; A+. I came here on a weekend & it was fairly empty, however as it got later it got more crowded. The food was alright & drinks were good. They also have a DJ. My only complaints was the service was slow & it was slow even before it got more crowded. I love when I come back home to NY and experience something new in my borough. Queens, especially off of Merrick and Springfield, you don't normally "hang out" over there. But I love to see how the neighborhood changes and adds quality spots where you can actually enjoy your own area instead of having to head to Manhattan or Brooklyn to find quality establishments. Let me just speak for myself as a devoted Brooklynite when I say I will always be loyal to my BK restaurants but I ventured out to Queens. Friday night my friend and I had dinner at West Bar & Lounge. I read some of the reviews while there and all I have to say is...give them a chance and you will not be disappointed. We arrived around 7pm, there was a nice crowd and we chose to sit at the bar. The bartender was nice and served our drinks within minutes of ordering. We also ordered our food the same time. We choose the pineapple fried rice w/chicken and the fish tacos. When I tell you that fried rice was served immediately after cooking it....the steam was rising from each bite. Simply delicious!! The fish tacos were equally delicious. Let's not forget the drinks. I had their rum punch and it was rummin! LOL my friend ordered the non-alcoholic pina colada. West Bar is located along a strip mall near the intersection of Merrick and Springfield. Given that it has no parking lot, you're subjected to street parking along a busy stretch right near a middle school. However, while there are signs saying "no standing" that lifts at 4 PM conveniently right as they open. Ambiance - I get that bars aren't supposed to be bright but the place is eerily dark on the restaurant side. I'd like to see the actual food I ordered. It's so loud that several times throughout the 2.5 hours my date and I were there we thought a fight had broken out. I kept waiting for someone to stand on a table love and hip hop style. Customer service - this is where things get interesting. When I arrived at 6, the bar was already at capacity. The greeter is also the hostess seating us and taking our order. If the venue seats 50, there were already 25 people there and she was the only person working. It took her about 30 mins to take our drink order. It took her another hour to get back to us for the happy hour appetizers. Let's be clear, under different circumstances I would have walked out before the drinks even came. It should never take this long to serve pre made drinks much less appetizers. Food/ drinks - the rum punch was actually pretty good. For appetizers he had the chicken skewers and I had conch fritters. I've never previously had conch and while the flavor is more sweet than salty, the end product was more like codfish fritters to me. It landed as expected and the sauce was quite complimentary. It appears the kitchen staff have their handle on things as does the bartenders. Management- it is clear that several of their business practices need revisiting and revising. The location presents a unique opportunity to fill a gap in Southeast queens where young urban professionals have options of savvy after work spots to meet. However, the customer service will drive business away. You simply can't have 10 tables of people all sitting around for 50 mins just waiting for drinks. Your staffing needs, especially on your busiest nights need to be at a ratio that makes sense. One worker to 30 people is crazy. Invest in your business by hiring more capable people to provide a quality experience. The fact that folks were willing to sit in and wait was kind of sad; it illuminated the fact that Southeast Queens still can't get it right when it comes to building what I've seen in areas like Forest Hills and Rockville Center and this is a huge part of the reason I'm never hanging out locally here and why businesses don't thrive and there's such high turnover. We say we want black people to support small businesses- however a lot of times in certain neighborhoods that means lowering my standard to put up with mediocre service just to say I supported. I was so excited to visit this lounge and finally the opportunity arose today for a business meeting. I must say that decor and atmosphere was nice but the service was lackluster. Most of the time I felt like my table spent most of our time wondering where the waitress was and when our food was going to come out. My friend had to ask for water on multiple occasions. Instead of bringing a pitcher the waitress just brought plastic cups of water which just felt off in comparison to the lounge decor. She also wasn't friendly or inviting at all. Finally the food was tasty but very salty. If you suffer from hypertension then this menu will not work for you. Overall, I would come back and sit at the bar for drinks (preferably the West Tea).
