Simply incredible, honestly one of the most peaceful trails in the area, if you're thinking about visiting, just do it

A nice trail you can ride in full in one trip. I did in in two, but on the first day I also pedaled the adjacent Clinton River Trail to its Pontiac terminus and on the second I also did a mile or two of the Michigan Air Line Trail til I got to one of its trailheads that just couldn't be on the end of the trail. So, yeah, a lot of these trails just kind of bleed into each other which is awesome for a big interconnected trail system where people can just cycle across the whole state but it can be tricky if you're sitting down to write a Yelp review and figure out where the arbitrary boundaries are. The WBT is crushed limestone which isn't buttery smooth like it's paved neighbor the Michigan Air Line Trail but it only offers moderately more resistance to a good mountain bike and Joni Mitchell won't be singing any songs about them ruining nature with it. You get two parks intersecting this trail. The West Bloomfield Nature Preserve is the larger and where I parked on both my trips here. It looks like there's some pretty good hiking, non-pedal-friendly trails there and I did walk a bit of one but the rigors of my bike ride that day kept me from getting too far. Like the Michigan Air Line Trail, it's another Yelp review for another day after I've racked up more experience. But it is an added bonus. The other park is some rinky dink city park with kids playground equipment but it does have a little shelter with a picnic table or two, perfect for a little snack, water, what have you break. There's also a couple tunnels, a couple lakes, or maybe ponds, it's pretty borderline there and a long photogenic boardwalk looking bridge near the west end of the trail. One downside of this trail is it criss-crosses Orchard Lake road again and again and traffic can be pretty heavy. There's a couple buttons on crossings giving us cyclists the awesome power of unleashing traffic signals to bring those multi-ton polluters to a grinding halt, but there's also a couple times they leave us to twist in the wind, fending for our fragile two-wheeled existence against the uncaring commuters. One is near not one but two curves in the winding road so it's a dicey proposition that can leave you waiting in frustration for moments that turn to minutes and more minutes. I could almost go four stars here but can't quite commit to it. I'll call WBT a 3.5 even if that's not a thing on Yelp. read more

West Bloomfield Trail - West Bloomfield Trail - September 23' - Hiking Near Me - West Bloomfield Township, Michigan

The West Bloomfield Trail was a staple for my marathon training. The crushed limestone surface of this rail to trail is wonderful on the joints, for running. It is very pretty and in the spring summer and fall is well taken care of. It is not maintained in the winter so once the snow starts falling is not easily used until spring again. Other downsides to the trail are there or not bathrooms on the trail other than at arrowhead - and those porta-potties are poorly taken care of. I also wish there were water refill stations. And it would be great if there was a stretch station. The biggest downside of the trail to me is the parking situation. Parking off of Haggerty, which is the most convenient when I'm meeting friends coming from 275/M5, is inadequate. On the weekends for a long run we got around this by parking our cars at Walnut Creek middle school and then going on the dirt road to get to the trail. Rumor has it that the Haggerty parking lot will be going away altogether once the Airline trail is built. I truly wish they could buy the land from the old Pella Windows and use that for parking. It is the perfect place for a West Bloomfield Trail had parking lot. Aside from those downside, I do love this trail. And I am very thankful to have it so close to my home. read more

I discovered the trail by using an app called ALL TRAILS - I wasn't sure what to expect but i'm glad i adventured out. The paved trail is beautiful and very minimum of hills that i noticed; unfortunately i didn't find any restrooms and/or portable restroom available to the public so be mindful of your water intake. The trail is shared with biker, joggers, and walkers - BARE RIGHT! There's signs posted at each interaction of the trail and doggy bags available as well which is nice. Very maintained trail - trash was at the minimum. I'll definitely be back to explore further. read more

Great trail. More sun than shade. Very long and best for biking. Connects with other trils on both sides.

First time to bike at this trail. We started at Orchard Lake Road, end up at Haggerty Road. Husband told me, we biked at least 10 miles for the round trip. Along the way, there are benches for you to stop and rest your feet. There's a porta potty (1 for family/disability, and 1 for unisex), with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. If you want to inflate your tires, there's a noozle and pump station available. I also saw tools hanged in one of the poles for you to use and adjust your breaks or suspension. The only thing missing in that area was the soda or water station. So you might want to bring your energy drink or water. It was a dirt road. But it wasn't hard to bike. I could pedal for a time and the bike continues to go forward. Pedestrian and bike traffic is minimal. We saw few dogs walking with their owners. Majority are bikers, compared to people who prefer to walk or jog. Kids can go along with their parents while biking, walking or jogging, but surely not for long ;-) It's free to cross the trail. On that day, we were able to see 4 deers, a turtle, squirrels, swans and migrating birds. Bring a camera or a cellphone to capture the moment with these amazing creatures of nature. Definitely will go back and continue biking at this trail. read more

I loved this trail! I parked at Sylvan Manor Park and you can run right or left. I chose trail on the right and it is very beautiful. You have to cross some small roads. You will pass a beautiful lake and the view is gorgeous! Smooth road, no concrete, most of the time only nature around. And long. You can walk, run, bike, you pick. Would recommend it. read more

I did a short 8 mile run along this and the Clinton River Park Trail which this trail merges into so I'll just combine two reviews in one. As far as trails go, it's nice. Soft, crushed gravely-type material. Well, marked and maintained. There's plenty of shade along the way which was welcomed. It wasn't too crowded the morning I did my run which I liked. What more do you need? One thing that I didn't quite like--especially on the Clinton River Trail was that it often dead-ended into a busy street. So you had to wait for traffic to die down to cross over. Not a big deal but still annoying that you often had to pause for traffic. It's mostly flat and an easy trail to run, walk, or bike on. I'd think dogs, strollers, and folks with mobility issues would do fine on most of the stretches that I saw. Of the two trails, I'd say the Bloomfield Hills one is more well-defined, maintained, and inviting. The Clinton River Trail had stretches where the trail was simply car tracks. There was also some construction being done or whatever, so there was a detour through a neighborhood in Pontiac. Not a big deal as it was well-marked but something to consider. For bikers out there, they had air stations interspersed throughout the stretch I ran along so that's pretty awesome. read more

Love this trail! 8 miles of pure Michigan nature. There are so many scenic views on this trail. I run it all the time with my dog. There are potty bags for pets, areas to rest, bike mounts, nature preserve details/signs and lots of bikers here and there! read more

We just discovered this gem last weekend and love it, absolutely beautiful and there's many paths to explore, there are directories and it's nearly impossible to get lost, it's approximately 8 miles long. You can talk a walk, run, jog, ride your bike and bring your family, friends, and pets. There are pavement trails and nature trails, I like to mix it up each time I go, it's breath taking, I could easily walk for a couple hours! read more

This trail is great for running, bike riding, and walking. Make sure you wear bug spray since the woods are thick and there is water nearby. The trail is nice and wide and well packed gravel. There are a few places to stop and take a break with benches and a place to park at the trail head which is on Haggerty just south of Walnut Lake Rd. read more

It was a nice walking experience but would not say it is incredible. There was deer and other small creatures. If you are looking for a short walk I would recommend. read more

This is a great area with well marked trails. Not too difficult either.
