There is an information desk inside for Oban as well as a ticket counter. I was travelling with my dog and everything about the place was very dog friendly. There is a nice big indoor ramp that bridges over to the ferry so you don't get slammed by rain entering and exitting by a ladder like at other ports. And there are lovely views of the bay in Oban, with great little shops and restaurants. Oban is not a bad place to get stuck either, if you miss a transfer. People are very friendly and I hear there is a good distillery in town.

In recent years there has been a lot of renovation to the building to bring the look to the 21st century, modern ticket office & heated waiting room, comfortable seating but plastic plants, what could be missing? Coffee machine - well they got rid of that for health & safety reasons. Wifi - well forget that one, would be quicker sending message by pigeon, the area is like a black hole for any type of phone signal that brands all phones useless. There is a television in the waiting room but it shows nothing worth viewing unless you like constant adverts. Toilets are there but you now have to pay for them 40p, they do have disabled toilets & baby changing rooms that are free.

When we arrived in Mallaig for our ferry they told us they had cancelled it and booked us on one 4 hours later, yet never told us (they claimed they sent an email, but based on the number of others arriving to the same surprise, we were clearly not the only ones who received no such email). That required backtracking more than an hour to Fort William and then 90 more minutes beyond that to the Skye bridge. Plans for the day completely disrupted because of this company's failure to serve its customers.

It's high season so the ferries were packed and seats filled up quickly but the ride was smooth and embarking and disembarking were both fairly quick and easy. The bus ride across Mull was enjoyable, the scenery was spectacular and watching Richard and everyone else navigate the single lane road was fascinating. The return trip in the afternoon was just as interesting except I fell asleep in the middle of the bus ride. This was the best way to see the islands and we would love to return and visit again. The CalMac ferry has a restaurant and bar, as well as a video game room and a small shop. Or you can just sit and enjoy the scenery or people watch. It's a 45-50 min ferry ride from Oban to Mull. The bus ride across Mull is also 45 mins but it feels shorter if you have an entertaining driver. The ferry from Mull to Iona is only 5-10 mins long. Ferries depart every few mins so you never have to wait long for one. It's safe, organized and as long as you listen to the announcements and follow instructions, the process is flawless.

Apparently the bus is now a city bus making many stops and filling with all sorts of passengers, not just cruise passengers. And I mean packed full! Ridiculous! I felt badly for anyone waiting at a bus stop. They were greeted with a packed bus full of disgruntled riders. Eventually, we got close to the cruise terminal and, without much warning, were told to exit and get on another bus that was waiting. We did so and made it to the terminal in a couple of minutes. Having read some reviews on Trip Advisor (while crammed on the bus), I noticed that this situation is not new and is really a regular occurrence. My advice - take a taxi or the nearby train.

This is a relatively clean railway station that has easy access to it by two separate entrances…read more There are fairly regular trains - depending on the day and time etc etc. The station itself, is not much to write home about. BUT, Shawlands is the Byres Road of the southside. This meaning, there is a large range of shops: from chain stores - such as Superdrug - to lovely little independent outlets ideal for gifts with hand carved furniture, handmade cards and the like. Additionally, there's a good selection of bars, restaurants, bistros and coffee shops. It also helps that from town, train is one of the quickest ways here. Though, there is always a good selection of buses which are available.

However, it is the handiest for Shawlands which probably represents the best area in the Southside to head out in. Trains take just a few minutes from the City Centre and it's a short walk from the station to Pollokshaws Road where there are plenty of bars and restaurants. The area around the station feels safe enough although there weren't too many people about when I visited and I did have to exit via a fairly secluded pathway.

Sometimes, weather can interfere with the ferry schedule and that can turn into quite a hassle for travelers. This ferry is fairly large and departs from the Armadale Ferry terminal. It can accommodate several big coach buses and we drove right on to it. There is comfortable seating both inside and outside and a coffee/snack shop onboard. I was told the fares are very reasonable and subsidized by the government. The fare for our 55 person coach bus for example was 160 GBP or $216 and I guess that is very reasonable. It takes about 25 minutes to reach the mainland and it is an enjoyable and scenic ride. I've personally never been on a ferry that was configured for both autos and buses. Apparently there are much bigger ferries out there, but this one was interesting enough.

I would just like to start and say myself partner, son and father in law travelled from Edinburgh…read moreto glasgow on the 16th of march. My partner has recently gone blind where he is blind in one full eye and half in the right eye and is still trying to face his daily routine and get around using his blind stick. We both want to thank the guys that are around the busses before departure offering to help him on the bus as we were ready to head back to Edinburgh and another guy saving us a seat on the lower ground as the bus was quite busy. I was really surprised and grateful when the 2 men offered us their help and so was he. Thanks guys keep up the great work! :) Danielle
