Indifferent service, inflated prices, and NO support…read more I've been a customer with North 40 for over 20 years. The service was always exemplary, the prices reasonable, and it felt like a traditional neighbourhood store. When the new owners took over, I was prepared to give them the same loyalty I had given the previous owners. Their prices went up, and more than once they didn't have what I was looking for even though they were quick to tell me they had WAY more inventory than the previous owners had. In Feb. 2015 I placed a special order for rabbit feed with the previous owners. Because it was special order, I bought a tonne and paid for it all in advance. This was delivered at the end of Feb, just before the store changed hands. I paid a premium for this rabbit feed (30% more than other rabbit feeds) because I had been using it for years and always found it to be of excellent quality. I was running out at the end of November 2015 and special ordered another tonne from the new owners. Even with the 50 cents a bag "discount" they offered, it was still more expensive than the previous order, but because it was such good feed I paid it. They told me that because of the discount, I'd have to pick up the feed myself. We did. The first bag was VERY dusty. This feed had never been at all dusty before. The second bag was too, and EVERY SINGLE bag I opened. I knew I couldn't get a refund because it was a special order and I was OK with that, but I did ask them to check with the feed mill to see if there was anything that could be done. I had paid a premium price for this feed and it was awful. They said they'd look into it. The next time I was in the store they said they'd forgotten and suggested I contact the feed mill myself. They didn't give me any help figuring out who to contact. They also suggested I try ANOTHER batch and see if it was better. I said I couldn't afford to spend another $1100.00 on the CHANCE it MIGHT be better. I tried at least 5 different times to get them to help me, but each time they either told me they forgot, or told me to do it myself, or they simply said the person responsible for looking into it wasn't there that day. I discovered that the feed mill they used was the one in Wetaskiwin, while the previous owners had used a feedmill in Manitoba. I told them that, and all they said was, "Oh. Oh well." It is now only 5 months later and I am almost out of feed. The good batch lasted me 9 months, but because of the amount of dust and wasted feed, the second batch only lasted 5 months. I went through 4 1/2 bags a month with the old batch and EIGHT bags a month with the new food. That means the new food cost me almost TWICE as much as the old food. Not only that, the respiratory problems with my rabbits have gone WAY up due to the dusty feed. Add that to the fact that their prices are consistently higher than the other feed store nearby, and I will not shop there again until they reimburse me at least 1/2 for the lousy, crappy feed they sold me. I tried to talk to them a bunch of times about this, and if they offered me some sort of compensation for the defective feed I would have happily given them another chance, but they did nothing, so my only other option is to tell people about my experiences.
