First time here, honestly never knew their was a billiards place downtown Durham. What a hidden gem. It's located about a block or two west of the 5 Points area. It's possesses an industrial vibe inside but super modern. Plenty of TV's around to watch sports, etc. they have six tables which can be rented. They also have three dart boards and a pretty stocked bar to enjoy some drinks while you play. The staff is friendly and doesn't bother you much. Overall great experience. Prices for game play are reasonable. I didn't see this as an option but I feel this would take this place to the next level, offer food/snacks/appetizers in house. Some of the darts had seen better days (parts kept falling off while we were throwing them!) but they were functional enough for us since we are beginners :) Drink selection was reasonable, although I'd love more beers on draft. Definitely has issues with military personal showed him my military id and he got in some upset mood saying that they don't accept these ids, MIND YOU he was reading it upside down and I usually use that form of id here. I went to West End tonight for the first time since before COVID. I did not know what to expect because some places are just not the same as they were before. However, I was pleasantly surprised! I think that it is even better than before! The tables were in great shape! They were clean and the cloth was in good condition. The music was perfect for shooting pool, a nice smooth groove. The bartenders, Javon and Michael, were friendly, the drinks were great, and no complaints about needing a water with ice! I could not find a single thing to complain about! We came here for a welcome party for an out of town wedding for a friend. It was a great place for this type of event as there are activities to keep the guests occupied. The food fell a little short and I'm not sure if that's is just the options the hosts picked for the party or not. It wasn't awful but not great either. They had a couple types of crostini and a flatbread pizza. I also deducted a star because the bathrooms were not super clean and the tables were wobbly. Overall we had a fun time with friends but the food could have been better. read more

I sucked major balls tonight but I did prevail THRICE!!! YASSSSS! Had a great time after being out of the game for a few years. Scratch city!! Gave the game away several times!! Music is great!!! ALL generes played! Nice spot!! Decent tables--not used to the balls not dropping at one end of the table as opposed to them dropping in the picket in which they were sunk. Service was terrible. both "managers" a Young white male (early 30s) and a Middle Ages Black male were unnecessarily rude and dismissive. I've been there twice and have over charged to play pool and a drink. the first time I had to put my card on file (of course) but I communicated that I wanted to pay cash at the end, my card was still charged when they closed. I went up there and the white male pointed to there policy list (as if that was an answer to my problem) (the money was never returned to my car) just last night, there was a waiting list to play pool there, ( it was busy that's fine) me and my friend literally watched the people behind the bar gave other customers pool balls, while we've been waiting there for a hour and a half. the Black male manager was super rude and dismissive once again... he offered me a drink for my troubles. I took his offer and was still charged for the drink..... super bad businesss all around. My fellow African american/ Black/or brown peoole beware, I don't believe this is safe place for us. A good place to shoot pool and get a drink. The cocktails are a little pricey so just order beer. The tables are decent playing tables (Olhausen) with fast playing cloth. The bathrooms are terrible with broken doors on the stall and soap dispensers and the people running the place should get them fixed. This place is about as good a pool hall/bocce bar as I've ever been to. Food is decent, but in addition to this location, you also have access to the wine and food menu from the adjacent Westend Wine bar. Also, in addition to some high quality pool tables, they have several shuffle board tables, and even two full size bocce courts! Unlike most pool halls I've been to, this one is clean and well lit. In an old tobacco warehouse, it has a really nice exposed brick/pipe loft type vibe. The walls are also covered in big screen TV's and they have all the major sports packages if you ask. read more

This place is awesome and I'll definitely be back! We brought my nephew here as our last stop on his 21st birthday bar hop. The drinks were a little expensive but since they weren't bottom shelf, I wasn't mad. And we didn't play pool or bocce (maybe if we would've come here first on the bar hop we would have! LOL) but we did play shuffleboard which was a VERY reasonable $2/pp/per hour. There were times that the bar was super busy and it took a little bit to get a drink but all in all, I was very impressed. The atmosphere is great, wide open, converted warehouse. I was a little concerned about parking but we had no issue finding a spot. And while it was busy, it wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be for a Saturday night. The bartender was really rude to my friends. Okay place but won't go back after seeing how they were treated. Lame.

I frequent this place a lot with my friends and we always have a great time here. It's really casual and laidback, several pool tables are available to rent for a couple bucks an hour along with bocce ball and shuffleboard which are also cheap. They've got a couple of classic arcade games and pinball by the bathrooms for a fun throwback. I also always love the music they're playing: rap, hip hop, r&b. They have pretty good drinks and serve little bar bites. The only reason I'm docking a star is because the bartenders have always been the friendliest. They're older males and as a bartender myself, I don't expect much at 1 am from hours of dealing with drunk people all day. There can be some annoying university students in the crowd. They also only have two stalls available in the bathroom and after hoards of teens, the bathroom is always disgusting but what can you do. read more

Not impressed at all. Tables are in bad shape. Felt was torn and and raising from the slate in all the pockets. I've shot on quarter slot tables that were in better shape. Lights are a little low. Not much more than 24" off the table, which cause poor lighting and shadows across the tables. Should be, at minimum, 40". Spider webs on lights. Edit: In a recent review I indicated that the games were free, which apparently they either never were or are no longer, as another reviewer was recently charged. As such I've changed my rating from 5 to 4 stars. Pros: Games, Billiards (4 Tables), Shuffle Puck (2 Tables), Bocci Ball (Two Lanes) Well-made cocktails. Cons: Expensive Drinks West End Billiards represents a great departure from your typical Durham watering hole. It has more games than Fullsteam and boasts a considerably classier atmosphere (Fullsteam is great too, just a different type of scene). All the games including pool are free and both times I've gone its been easy enough to grab tables, though I haven't gone on a Friday or Saturday. The bar is quite large and boasts 5-8 signature cocktails that cost about as much as Bar Virgile and Alley 26 (~$11-14) while offering slightly lower quality. While the atmosphere is classy it never feels stuffy and is just as appropriate for a date as a few drinks with friends. read more

This is one of the better spots to come for billiards since there are a number of pool tables, and unless you come on a Friday or Saturday night there's usually a table open. Indoor bocce is also great if that's your thing. I was a little disappointed by my first visit here, which was on a busier weekend night, because the bartender briskly grabbed our drink orders and didn't let us get a word in edgewise about wanting to get on the wait list for a pool table. As such, we had to wait for him to make a whole other lap around the bar taking orders before we could flag him down, and he seemed annoyed at that. The bar was also FILLED with visibly overintoxicated Duke students, to the point where some of the girls playing bocce were falling down in the sand lot. It's up to everyone to monitor their own alcohol intake, and this isn't to say that they hadn't gotten drinks elsewhere beforehand, but considering their obviously inebriated state, I am a little concerned that the bartenders served them at all. There were also some R rated activities going on in the middle of the bar, and since this isn't exactly a dark nightclub, it was obvious and more than a little gross. I'm not a prude by any means, but hands down pants should be an obvious no-go in public. The night we went, there was also a very sketchy middle aged guy going around the bar by himself taking photos and videos of the underdressed, overintoxicated college girls without any attempt to hide his actions. It was clearly predatory behavior and considering how jam packed this place is, I am astonished that they don't have even one security guard here for Friday & Saturday night (or if they did, they clearly weren't doing their job). He left before we got a chance to call him out to the staff, but had clearly been there for a while at that point. It left a bad taste in my mouth, and while it's not the bar's fault directly, they are responsible for monitoring and regulating activities and patrons within their business. read more

Amazing time. There are multiple games with a great layout to avoid interference. Amazing atmosphere, great beer menu, and decent food / wine list. Easy distance from nearby restaurants and bars during a night out downtown or in the bright leaf district. I would recommend it as an after dinner stop. read more

West End is a great spot with a cozy feel for drinks. Surprisingly, they have some of the better pizza around as well which you wouldn't expect from a wine bar. Drink specials are great too as well as their drink selections. The bartenders are always friendly and they make some great drinks to boot. It is also connected to the west end billiards if you want to head on over to play some drinking games after a social hangout with good food! They have two floors also and is a great place for groups of friends a sthey have comfortable couch spots to sit. read more

Their roasted hummus plate is delicious! Honestly, I think I may have enjoyed it more than the (also delicious) white wine that I ordered.
