My Honest and Recent Review of West Meade Vet Clinic - Dr Lutz and Dr Ramsaur. 5/5/25 Please do not take your dog here for dental or anything that requires competence and compassion. They extracted 2 molars from my 13 year old dog - they didn't do the anesthesia correctly - he called me to tell me about his mistake. I was grateful for ramsaur's honesty, he gave my dog a double dose of pain medication during the anesthesia. After picking him up - the red headed front desk lady "erin" brought my dog out to the parking lot when i specifically requested that I could pick him up and carry him to the car. My dog was drooling blood and saliva, he was dragging his back feet and he was very confused. She had the choke collar around him - no compassion at all. When I asked the vet why she did that- he had no good answer. I also recorded that phone call, should it be needed for evidence. My 13 year old dog was whimpering in pain all night due to RAMSAUR and LUTZ negligence. Speaking to vet again the next morning - I asked the pain injection during anesthesia wore off. He said probably around 8pm - and then I asked - why didn't you send me home with pain medication then? He had NO good answer. He offered me to pick up pain medication - but you can't take back the pain my dog has already gone through. I ended up going elsewhere. Please advocate for your sweet pets. This is not the place to go. There are a lot of bad vets and this is one of them. They may be good for exotic animals but not dogs! I might ask them for a refund. I might even file a formal complaint with the state. Either way I wanted to warn future parents who love their pets. This is NOT the place to go. They need to be put out of business. Record your phone calls with them, record your interactions. They are not to be trusted. I have a long history with Dr. Lutz and staff. I trust them fully for the care of my beloved pets. Nothing but honest and incredibly kind hearted people... aside from being insanely knowledgeable. People don't realize how incredibly HARD this particular industry is and the amount of psychology and compassion that is applied to both people and their pets. There is nothing as devastating as having a fur baby in pain or realizing that their lives are coming to an end. Often people abandon their pets during this time because it's so incredibly hard and the pets are left in their final hours to the folks at the clinic . They constantly have to put aside their personal feelings to be strong for pets and people. This is the sort of thing these folks deal with DAILY. I have never experienced anything but pure professionalism and am always astounded at the amount of dedication it takes to be in this particular field. Anyone who would choose this profession has a deep respect and care for animals. I was introduced years ago to Dr. Lutz and staff as I was in animal rescue. They have helped so many abandoned pets over the years because they cared. Clearly not about making money since rescue groups scrape pennies. That speaks volumes. My dog was handed quite a few health issues as a rescue pup. I didn't think twice about getting her in to the clinic pronto because I knew she would get the best care possible. If I could give less than a star, I would. I'm writing this review so that other dog owners are not led astray by the 5 stars and positive reviews for Dr. Lutz and West Meade Veterinary Clinic. He may be a bird specialist, but he does NOT specialize in dogs--or their owners. When another area vet was mishandling our dog, we found Dr. Lutz in an article in a Bellevue newspaper, impressed by how he talked to the animals. The animals in the article were birds, which should've clued us in. Just as you wouldn't go to a foot specialist for your teeth, you shouldn't see a bird specialist for your dogs. Last December, our Corgi, Conan, suddenly stopped eating. We went to Dr. Lutz as soon as this symptom was presented, and he noticed our dog's spleen was enlarged but did nothing but send us home with bottles of pills, even after we left him there for observation and took him again for a follow-up check-up. He said he'd do an ultrasound "to rule out cancer" after the new year. Conan didn't make it to the new year. Since Dr. Lutz never clued us in to the possibility of anything serious being wrong with our dog, we took him with us when we traveled out of state for the holidays. Conan collapsed there, which we thought (because Dr. Lutz gave us no reason to believe otherwise) was simply because he slipped on the wet leaves on the patio. That's what we told the vet there when we carried him in, as he was unable to even walk through the door. And that's when we found out our beloved dog was at death's door. Thanks, Dr. Lutz. After we spent his final days pumping him with pills against his will, our dog--only 8 years old--succumbed to hemangiosarcoma following a splenectomy to remove his tumor-ridden spleen. "Why didn't your vet do an ultrasound?" was one question we were asked. While I feel the outcome would've been the same either way, as I have found in all my research since then, I do believe the situation could've been handled 100% differently. I gave this vet one last chance when I called just now to inform the office that we do NOT want to continue receiving reminder notices on every anniversary of his death, as we just did, and they didn't care what had happened. Just as we suspected. If your dogs are your family like ours was, don't trust your family member to Dr. Lutz and West Meade Veterinary Clinic. If you do, you will regret it, like we certainly do. read more

This knowledge is beyond apparent as he diagnoses and advises. He has a quirky, irreverent sense of humor that makes owners comfortable. I have been using Dr. Lutz and West made vet clinic for a little over 10 years. I have referred many people to him and every single person sings his praises! Even my blind boxer absolutely loves going to the vet to see Dr. Lutz! Prices are good. It is an older building but it's in a nice part of town and the staff cares about your pet. If your pet needs to see a specialist they will tell you very quickly whether it's something they can help you with or not. They are very honest. I brought my blue an gold wing McCall to Dr. Lutz. I was very pleased. Dr. Lutz took time to explain everything to me about my bird. The way to bathe him and the way to get him sunlight. I first started seeing Dr. Lutz about ten years ago for my blue throated macaw. I drove from Kentucky to see him on a regular basis as he was the closest avian certified vet. I can not possibly say enough good things about this doctor and his practice as a whole- I F&CKING LOVE WEST MEADE VET!!! I have had parrots, ducks, chickens, goats, horses, dogs, cats, chinchillas, just about everything you can imagine (yes, I grew up on a ranch). I have lived in ten different states and three different countries and have never EVER had any other vet come close to how awesome Dr. Lutz and his staff at West Meade are. To this day I still call them with questions and for a second opinion if I'm uncertain of the info I'm getting from another vet, even though we live 5,000 miles away.
