I once went to a dentist that was in a basement and I was truly terrified so the bright and clean dentists on street lane put me right at ease. The waiting area is comfortable, stylish and really tidy; there is also a bathroom that is so luxurious it should be in a beauty spa. I only had a routine check up and thankfully no nasty work was needed. The dentist was really sweet and suggested I start using sensitive toothpaste as gave me some samples to try. I have found practically all other dentist's scary; this one however is warm and friendly.

I managed to get a same day emergency appointment here, with David Blaine (ok, David Blaen, but it's pronounced the same, which is awesome for he is indeed magical), for £56, and after discussing my options I decided to have the tooth out. For which there was no extra charge! All very quick and more importantly, pain and stress-free. I can't recommend Dr Blaen enough. He is a dude. He is private though, not NHS, but he's worth it. He also has a mega beard.

The receptionist was very helpful and I managed to get seen by Mrs Precious the owner of the practice the next day. The practice is on Otley road and they have a car park around the back which is useful. I'm glad to say that my teeth were fine (few as it had been years since I last saw a dentist in London!). I've never been happy with my teeth (battered after rugby). I had a long chat with Mrs Precious about what I could do about my teeth and I opted for teeth whitening, two dental crowns and some nice veneers (My wife says she fancies me again!!) Because I joined Denplan I managed to get 10% off the cost of the work. Mrs Precious was very gentle and took her time with me which I liked as I was a bit nervous. I would thoroughly recommend this practice if you need a new dentist.

I have only just discovered this site, but my story is unforgettable and is still worth telling…read more Nearly 2 years ago, I visited Advance Dental Care as an NHS patient. My gums were bleeding profusely on a daily basis, and I could hardly chew even soft food. In addition, I had lost a filling. I desperately needed dental treatment. The waiting in the reception was horrendous. At lunchtime, the receptionists just disappeared leaving no one to see to the phone or to patients. The practice still used brown envelopes for patient records, and computers seemed to be used only for making appointments. It felt like they were 20-25 years behind in terms of technology.[The reception area was also very small and uninviting] As for the treatment, I was on the edge of my seat throughout. After treatment, I kept spitting lead bits for hours. And when the filling was done, it felt like it was sticking out sharp and uncomfortable [I had to use a fine file to smooth it out myself at home, clearly a botched up job!] The treatment was stretched over 6-7 visits (as far as I can remember), without a doubt totally unnecessarily. The dentist also kept forgetting that I was an NHS patient, repeatedly quoting prices for each part of the treatment for me. I kept apologising for being an NHS patient. I felt like crap, and was treated no better. The worst thing about it all is the dentist's verdict when she saw the X-rays. She advised that I should have 8 teeth out ! To cut the story short, after the shock, I sought a second opinion, and guess what? I did NOT have to lose a single tooth!! The dentist who saved my teeth (on NHS) gave my teeth a thorough cleaning, plus a 10day treatment of antibiotics. That's all it took. Now, 2 years on, my teeth are all sill there as healthy as they can be, and no gum bleeding whatsoever. That's my story. I stand by every word in it.

However I was told my mouth was full of decay and that I needed 3 fillings. Obviously I was a little concerned about the sudden deterioration of my teeth and the cost involved worried me, so I decided to get a second opinion. When seeking advice from another private dentist I was informed my teeth weren't nearly as bad as I had previously been told. Holt Park Dental Surgery wanted to charge me £220 for 3 totally unnecessary white fillings when I visited another dentist the cost came to £16.20. Need I say more.. you have been warned!

The receptionist was nice and helpful. The dentist herself was brilliant. Totally thorough and although she was using technical terms to her assistant, she was always breaking it down to me, explaining what was wrong and what had to be done, in terms that I could understand. I must admit, I was relatively nervous about the whole experience (as are most people when it comes to the dentist) but the dentist was really comforting throughout my whole appointment. It sound silly, but even though I have to go back for treatment, I don't feel as terrified as usual..in fact I am almost looking forward to it.

The receptionists are friendly and helpful, and are very useful for making appointments at a time convenient to you. The waiting room is comfy and has a good selection of magazines to read to fill in the time if you have to wait. The dentists themselves, well Mr Auckland in my case, is very professional, and has always performed to the highest of my expectations. My daughter has also had a brace fitted here (as Mr Auckland is also an orthodontist). The practicality of having this done at our dentists is incredibly useful, as it means we do not have to commute to Leeds or York as others do, for the monthly check up, or if something goes wrong. On the one time when there has been a problem with my daughter's brace (the end broke in her mouth) they made us an immediate appointment with the available dentist (for him to remove the broken piece), and booked an appointment to have it fixed in again with Mr Auckland the next morning. All in all I have been very pleased with the service we have received here, and would not consider moving anywhere else.

Sure enough, as the day came around, I considered cancelling. Surely I didn't really need a checkup? Bravely, like a true adult, I ignored the urge and faced up to the facts: I have to get my teeth checked because it's the present me looking after the future me. Well done me all round. Good job I didn't cancel. Whilst I didn't have to have fillings (PHEW) I do appear to have trouble getting rid of plaque, so the six month breaks have been shortened to three months. I really appreciate how friendly and patient the staff are -- if you've questions, they'll happily accommodate you. I feel completely confident that they have my best interests in mind. If you're a nervous patient, I'd say try this place out; on my last visit I noticed they've a sign saying they have sedation options for those who're afraid of seeing the dentist. So far I've not had to request that, but I totally get that for some people it's a necessity! Basically, every time I go I'm delighted. I still hate teeth, and really don't enjoy having to get checkups, but at least I'm in the best hands!
