Western Carolina University is amazing!! As I write this review I am a Junior. I love Western Carolina because ALL of the staff are really nice and respectful. The professors, janitors, student workers, peers... everyone! I have never had a professor here who was hard to deal with. Each are very unique and well experienced in what they teach. The first two years you must live on campus, which can be hard to adjust to, but in the end, gives you a great experience that will be worth the while. The campus is really beautiful and there are many things to do. The gym is really nice and it is two stories. There is a track, weight lifting equipment, treadmills and various cardio machines, a rock wall, and a basketball court which can double as a volleyball court. You can rent games or sports equipment with your cat card. Western also hosts tons of events like concerts, fairs, karaoke, etc... All of which are free to WCU students. The sporting events are also free to students because it is covered by the athletic fee. They are very cool to attend. Western Carolina is also very accessible to students and people with disabilities. We are the first school in the country to offer a University Participant program (UP), offering students with disabilities a chance to come to college for 2 years and gain college life experience. The program helps individuals to become more independent so that they can one day live on their own and have a job for themselves. The UP students are not separated from other students, rather, they are included in the mix with all other students and their classes. It's great! Let's talk tuition! Compared to other universities in North Carolina, Western is pretty cheap. We have NC promise which takes a lot off of tuition, and also, books here are free (very, very, few classes require out of pocket book fees) I have met out of state students who have come to Western because it is cheaper for them to pay out of state tuition here than it is for them to pay in state in their own states! read more

First college tour! Our family was in town visiting family, so we decided to take our son to WCU for his very first college tour. My mother-in-law is a WCU alumni, so she went along with us. We were very impressed with the campus. The tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly. The campus is beautiful. I especially loved the lodge look of the dorms. WCU has a lot to offer! read more

This is a small college town with a nice campus. They have school shuttle from campus to nearby students and staff housing. I thought that was thoughtful from the school to offer that. read more

When were colleges actually punished for communicating to potential students. I'm sorry I attended four years at this institution and as a student I would be happy to have this level of communication. Parking is a luxury at any college or university, I am so sorry that the person that left a one star review felt like he/she deserved a front row parking spot. read more

Just blown away by how well the staff treated us during our campus tour. We were given more details about this school than any other we visited in the past year. It is located in a small town but the campus is clean and seems to be up to date. If you're looking at schools in NC or SC put this one in the list to check out. read more

We love Western Carolina. Searching for a university that fit my needs and concerns as a parent for my daughters education, safety and independence as well as her choice for course study and overall fit, was by far overwhelming to say the least. WCU is North Carolina's Goldilocks college. Cullowhee is a beautiful and amazing location. Unlike some of the other schools we toured, there's no massive outside population just hanging around. The safety measures in place for students to communicate with Campus Security as well as each other is pretty impressive. The phone app allows my daughter and her roommate to check-in on each other, which I have to say is one my favorites. The small class sizes also helped make our choice. We like the idea our daughter is not just 1 of hundreds who could easily get lost in the masses. All in all when we set down to make this choice, it was easy. WCU all the way. GO CATS!!! read more

With low tuition, a picturesque surrounding, good people, and excellent faculty / staff who deeply care about their students, coupled with an excellent education. It's hard to find a better place than WCU. The campus feels like a family, professors are invested in your future and want you to succeed. Facilities are constantly improving and new residence halls are coming online almost every year for the past few years. WCU is growing and consistently ranks among the top when it comes to value and quality of your education. You'll be hard pressed to find a University who's Chancellor is cheering on students loudly at extracurricular events while also laser focused on the quality of education such students are receiving in the classroom. The campus is large enough to get lost among the students but yet small enough to become known and to see people you know if you do so choose. Westerns Campus is nestled in the valley of Cullowhee, N.C. This makes its campus extremely and quite frankly, strangely, VERY walkable. It's an outlier among other institutions of similar sizes. As a junior at WCU I couldn't be happier with my decision to become a CATAMOUNT! Give our campus a visit! read more
