I admit to smelling some flowers and touching a few plants, but no fruits or veggies were at risk. Highly recommend the Auckland Domain if you are in Auckland. We passed pristine rolling hills, a bowling center, tennis center, Olympic aquatic center .... Many were biking, walking, jogging and enjoying the green space. They have developed this awesome bike track for kids, complete with ramps and bridges and round about with stop signs (to teach them early about driving haha) and from the looks of it, all the kids in the neighbourhood LOVE it. I have tried skateboarding on this track and it's definitely harder so stick to scooters and bikes. The "big kids" playground is so EPIC with flying foxes (can never get too old for this but can be too tall as my bottom and legs will graze the bark), miniature climbing wall, tall tunnel slide, bridges, monkey bars oh my gosh you name it. Don't fret! There's a miniature playground for the little ones that's more safe and to a smaller scale and and really cool swings (for babies, toddlers or the big kids like myself! ) For the adults or the more adventurous kiddies there's a forestry/bush walk that really cool to have in a residential jungle. And they've cleaned it up, made better, stronger and wider walking paths. There's a big field for soccer, lacrosse, rugby etc and biggish public toilets next to it. A big pond with water coming in from the harbour and ducks (sometimes cute little ducklings) swimming lounging around and sometimes people race their remote boats in it too! There's a public BBQ by the miniature playground and also on weekends there's a coffee and ice cream truck on standby! There's just so much going on in this park that you can never get bored and probably never want to leave until someone has to drag you out hahaha

Trip down memory lane aside, Milford Park is still a great spot to bring the kiddies. There is a freshly painted, bright blue playground, toilets, BBQ pits AND the Beach is right next door. Not to mention in Summer there is frequently concerts or outdoor movie screenings. Oh, and for all those runners out there every Wednesday night there is a fun run that leaves from the Milford Cruising Club in the park and goes to Takapuna and back for only $7 ($3 for kids), free drink included!

We took the field trail up, I did it in sandals but sneakers or hiking shoes would be better, and we took the road on the way down. There were people having picnics, kids playing, dogs walking, people just enjoins the great outdoors. As we started the trail you can see cattle, a small cafe, and more at the bottom. As you climb the views are amazing. A 360 panoramic view of Auckland is visible from the top. It was just a majestic view from the top. Walk is easy, the views are spectacular, the trees are so unique and huge, it was lovely.

Right on the waters edge, there's plenty of wooden benches around the perimeter of the park to have a seat and watch the boats come and go on the water, even feed the seagulls if you were so inclined. There's a decent playground, to keep the kids entertained and on hot summer days the little bay/inlet of water towards the back of the reserve is the perfect space to take the littlies for a swim as its noticeably calm and gentle out there.

We used to come down every year even when we were kids as there was so much to do and look at. The festival has chilled out in recent years I think due to increased prices and possibly a larger police presence to keep an eye on any drunkards but anyway the point is Windsor Reserve is a great venue! They have Carols by Candlelight at Christmastime and all sorts of other family picnic concerts throughout the year. I also recently came across a 'Families in Parks' summer fun programme on Tuesdays mornings where they bring lots of little bikes and toys down for toddlers - perfect if you're looking for something fun and free to do with little kids.

This place is a bit of a secret in that from its main entrance on Ponsonby Road it looks very small. Even if you can't be arsed walking down the hill to explore, seeing John Radford's famous building sculptures is reason enough. They have become a much-loved Ponsonby icon and still fascinate kids and adults alike after all these years. If you do decide to carry on down the hill though, you'll find a landscaped basin with a pretty cool playground leading to tennis courts and sports fields. Who knew? The playground is always fairly quiet, thanks I think to the steep climb down (and inevitably back up). The last time I was here there was a film crew shooting so like I said, you just never know what surprises await. It's also a great spot for lunch if you work nearby and there's even a fitness trail if the hill just isn't enough.

While this path may not lead you to the Emerald City, it will get you to Cox's Bay waterfront. If you time your walk right, you should catch a beautiful sunset. West Coast is the best coast..whooo! Meander along the path through green, open spaces filled with large shade trees. There are a few benches to have a sit down while listening to birds and the water flowing along both sides of the reserve. Continue walking across the bridge through the mangroves. If you can make it during high tide you'll avoid the stale smell of slow moving water. It's not awful..but..yeah it ain't roses and jasmine either. Once you've passed the mangrove, what appears next is a vast open field. The area is big enough to have several groups of dogs frolicking and rolling around in the grass. Humans also have enough space to have numerous games of Frisbee, Soccer, Baseball (er Rugby?) without ruining into each other. So bring your toys and your dogs and have some fun. Don't forget to walk to the waterfront. It's unfortunate one can not swim there, that would be awesome. Nevertheless there is a bench for you to have a rest, while watching the day pass away with the Sun.

On a sunny day, this would be a beautiful place to have a family picnic. I'm used to city life, so visiting Cox's Bay Reserve was a very peaceful experience. I'll definitely be back.
