The Cascada tunes reverberating from the Leather Store at 9am should tell you what one of the three it belongs to. If Jon Bon Jovi circa 1992 is your idol, then this is the place for you. It's easy to sneer at stores like this, but without them to go alongside the style bars and High street chains, Glasgow wouldn't be the fascinating, bewildering, and downright oddball metropolis it is today.

What has actually happened is that i've got on a bus and sat next to a woman "huffing" lighter fluid (i shit thee not) and travelled down to the east end of the city to view one of the strangest shops that still seems to be doing business. Ok so, no real queries as to what this place sells.....its leather.....jackets in the main, but i reckon it wouldn't be too hard to find a pair of leather trousers, vest, hat, scarf, shoes, flask, glasses, eye patch, dog cover, dog lead, dog bowl, dog....dog. This place is dripping in so much deceased cow skin that i swear i saw a vegetarian crying outside it today. Anyway, madness aside, i reckon this place would be worth a visit if your on the leather trail..(they sell them too), yes the styles are a little outdated and the the prices will be fairly high, but hey, if that's your thang then why not.

Dr. Martens - Awesome bag that was free with my purchase at the Dr. Martens shop!

I didn't buy them from this shop because they sadly did not have them in my size, I got them from the online store instead. That being said I did spend a fair amount of time in this shop trying on boots to ensure I knew my correct size for the boots I wanted. It's a fairly small shop, but that's pretty common in Glasgow. Despite the size they have a great selection! Not just of boots, but also bags, clothes, accessories, and shoe care products. After I received my Docs in the mail I decided I wanted to get an insole before breaking them in. I checked out the prices and reviews online (for anyone wondering the mid price range Comfort Insoles have the best reviews), then went to the shop to pick them up. When I checked out the selection they had every size but mine! I figured that was just my luck, but as I turned to leave a very polite associate asked if she could help with anything. I asked about the size and they thankfully had more in stock behind the front desk, lucky me after all! When I went to purchase them I found out they were actually even cheaper than from the online store which AND they put them into an awesome reusable (free of charge) tote bag that has "LOVE MY DOCS" printed on the side! I already love it to bits. I pop in there often just to see if they have any new styles and I have always found the associates to be welcoming and ready to help. I plan to go back again soon for some care and cleaning products, can't wait!

What I wanted from the Dr Martens shop and what I got were two very different things…read more I wanted to browse their luscious collection of boots and find the perfect pair. I wanted different colours, styles and generally a good sized collection to ogle. What I got was a shop that seems to do mostly clothes now. When did that happen? Dr Martens are shoes! SHOES! The shoes are scattered around the shop in between the clothes displays so it really doesn't seem like they have much to choose from. I looked and looked, and then looked again but I left feeling a bit frustrated with the whole experience. In addition, there was a group of about 15 teenagers sitting in a circle outside the shop. On the ground, on Sauchiehall Street, in winter. What?! I know this isn't Dr Martens fault but it was pretty weird, all the same. I guess I'm going to have to resort to online shopping for my dream boots.
