I have been seeing the doctors at Westgate for four years after moving to Spartanburg. For an independent doctor's office, they have been excellent. The support staff up through the docs are helpful, knowledgeable and kind. They even have an onsite testing lab and typically provide results while still there or the next day. On my initial visit, via ultrasound, they discovered a clogged carotid vein that required surgery. Without this discovery, I would have soon experienced a stroke or worse. So even though the physician that I worked with is fantastic, the staff not so much. Just make sure that if you have insurance, then you bring the extra car so they can scan it because no one can even key in a card. Take it to the phone. Take a picture of it. Do anything else you have to come in? You have to give them the insurance card and they have to be able to read it and have to be able to scan it anything outside of that totally complicated. No one wants to help. It's literally a mill coming in and out. I have now been without medication, life-saving medication for about a week and a half simple because my counter is locked because no one can take my information over the phone nor can they key in information without them having a magical little card in their possession. This is really upsetting. Now I have to go find another primary care physician. Don't come here, do not bother. read more

Last spring, I tested positive for Covid at an urgent care facility on a Friday. I was dehydrated and was sent me to an ER for fluids; I still wasn't seen after 4 hours. I checked my labs myself on My Chart, (retired nurse), discussed it with my son, and went home. I called Westgate Family Physicians on Monday; they had no appointments, so had me leave a message for Dr. Meetze's nurse. She called right back and told me to be there at 9AM in the morning. I had lost 11 pounds, was seen and examined by my doctor, and was started on IV fluids, all by 9:15. I was so dehydrated, it took 4 sticks, but they got the IV in. I was never so happy to get an IV. They care about their patients and act quickly in an emergency. When my husband died in hospice with end stage Parkinson's, I dropped by the office with his obituary, and the office sent me a sympathy card, signed by the staff, including sweet note from his doctor. Don't go unless you are able to go in any time they ask you to. Won't renew prescriptions over the phone. So they put you on something you can't stop taking and then won't refill without getting their money from you visiting. Teladoc is a lifesaver thankfully. Oh, and if you aren't extremely Christian you will feel very out of place. read more

I had been attending Westgate Family Physicians for a number of years, but I've finally reached my limit. Wait times are long. The staff is impatient. And the doctors spend little time with you. I started seeing Dr. Bailes. However, a few years ago my meetings with him became more and more rushed. I felt like I was a burden if I asked him questions. He was in and out of the room within three minutes. Meanwhile, I would get charged full price for an appointment (sometimes at an "extensive session" rate if I asked too many questions). This is after I had to wait 30 minutes (at least--sometimes an hour-and-a-half) after my scheduled appointment time. I then switched to Dr. Latzka, who was better at first, but then the same thing continued. Quick appointments. Wait times long past my appointment time. And a nurse and staff that seemed all but helpful and more often than not very cold. Well over a decade ago, when I started attending, many of my family friends were also going there. That's not the case now. Since they've started dropping clients they started requiring me to come in every six months for a follow up appointment. I only take one drug, Prozac, which I've taken off-and-on since 2005. Suddenly, they started to require me to be seen for refills of the drug, and charging me for a full doctors visit each time. This is completely unacceptable, and a cheap ploy from them to get me to spend more money at their struggling office. I'm not willing to put up with this anymore. Apparently the concept of "Do No Harm" only applies if you're willing to pay them enough money on repeated (and often useless) visits. I've since scheduled a visit with a new doctor that comes highly recommended form many friends. Save yourself some time and trouble and don't visit this place. read more

Do not go here. My sister was misdiagnosed with a sinus infection when in fact it was pnuemonia! She was told she could not see a doctor by the front desk and was given a nurse practiciner! read more

Dr. Jackson almost killed me when I was 12 (10 years ago). Kept telling my mother that I was a "dramatic child" after a traumatic fall. Turns out I ruptured my spleen and sat at home bleeding internally for two weeks. Good thing I became unconscious in his office on my FOURTH visit, as we were checking out. He misdiagnosed me FOUR times and almost cost a 12 year old girl her life. Never even received an apology, or heard from him as I spent 3 months in the pediatric ICU. If I could, I'd sue. I had been a patient there for around 20 yr. I was seeing a very good Dr there then I switched to another physician there. Biggest mistake I have ever made. I was seeing Dr Michael Latzka and at first I thought he was wonderful until he and his nurse Wendy both made me feel like they had no use for me or my business there. I needed paperwork completed and Wendy never even spoke with me, even though she was the one filling the paper out. This paper work was to help me stay employed. My previous Dr who completed this paperwork retired and Dr Latzka assured me he could continue my treatment, which he change the amount of meds I was to receive and change my leave paperwork. I pleaded with him to please change it back and he just looked at me and remarked he'd been doing this for a long time. I am a hard working person, and my meds are a part of what helps me stay that way. And my paperwork has been the same for 2 yrs with no problems until I asked him to take over my care. He can handle basic stuff I guess, but he is not what I need for my routine management. I will not ever go back to a place that treated me so horribly, I wish I had time to write the entire experience so it would clearer what happened. Please be careful because the wrong Dr could cost you more than just your job, I have seen it happen with my own two eyes. That day at the office, Dr Latzka stepped out to talk with the nurse, she told him I said something about my neurologist, that was a lie, I don't have a neurologist. When he stepped back in, he didn't want to hear anything else I had to say. I kept telling him I could lose my job if this wasn't done right. He clearly did not care, he opened the door as to tell me to leave. I left there with tears in my eyes. I don't know if he was having a bad day or what but it was clear my time there had ended. I am a health care worker, I work full time with patients and I know sometimes it can be a little stressful with what all is going on, but you never let your bad moments be known to patients. I would have never treated a patient the way they treated me. I was spoken to in a tone that was disrespectful and I was visibly crying and Latska did not have anything else to say, just basically just leave, I was telling him I could loose my job, he acted as if he didn't care. Please be careful people. Dr can hold your fate in their hands and not even care about you as a person. Please be aware, just because people claim to be Christians don't mean they hold Christian values. read more

BEST DOCTOR'S OFFICE I'VE EVER BEEN TO! Dr. Bailes is mine and my daughters doctor and Dr. Hess is my fiance's doctor. They are both wonderful! I have been to plenty of doctors and taken my daughter to plenty of pediatricians and no one yet can hold a candle to my doctor(s) at Westgate Family Physicians!
