Ideally located next to Westbourne Park station this pub is a great first stop for people heading towards Portobello or Notting Hill. At the weekends there are live DJs so get there early! It gets busy even on the weekday evenings, with people grabbing a post work drink, or some really good pub food. The sausage and mash is great, and perfect for a cold winters day. I like the large ceilings and the relaxed atmosphere of this traditional looking place. It looks out onto the street corner too, so its nice to look out at the people and cars. I like doing wherever I am, so its not a comment on the environment as such. There are some great draft beers available too!

The decor is nicely done and clean, with two warming fireplaces, very comfortable chairs and very welcoming people working there. There are three real ales - one guest local ale (currently Tring Blonde). Also Greene King London Glory and IPA. There is an impressive food menu with very tasty freshly cooked imaginative dishes on offer. There is a light-bite type daytime menu and an a la carte for the daytime and evening. The quality of the food is as good as a posh London restaurant, the fish & chips (triple cooked chips!) is a favourite, as is the flatbread pizza, the Candlestick burger and the beef & ale pie. Good deserts, great coffee machine too. Can't fault it. On a nice footpath walking route and stunning scenery round about just the sort of place you want to midpoint after a walk in the country.

I think because it has charm. It's a proper old fashioned London boozer; old photos on the walls, a selection of ales, wooden floors, bar and furniture, frosted windows â" all that malarkey and a completely unpretentious feel. Everyone likes it, which is evident from the mixed bag of people you get inside which only adds to its appeal. Unlike some of my friends who cannot fault the place, my problem is the lighting; I think it's too bright and wish they'd just unscrew a few of the bar lights to make it more inviting and true to its namesake. I am also disappointed by the prices which seem to be rising slowly but surely. This is not a cheap option despite its looks. Summer nights are best the Hermits when the punters spill out onto the pavements, but equally a winter evening is great, curled up inside with one of the many warm beverages on offer - a hot toddy or mulled wine is always best in an old-fashioned pub. It's a nice, airy pub with plenty of big cosy tables and places to squash into, but if I were going out, I'd still make a beeline to somewhere like the Stormbird or the Tiger first.

It's definitely not somewhere to go if you're thinking of a villagey atmosphere. On the plus side, they've an excellent choice of beers which are very well kept, and the prices are stunningly good by Wimbledon standards. Even the range of lagers is impressive. I bought three pints on a Monday (they have a special offer) that wouldn't cover the cost of one and some crisps up the road in the Alex. On my visits the staff have been very friendly and obliging, and pretty efficient - but then, I avoid weekends. The food I've had has been ok, too, for a quick bite, especially for the money. Veggie chilly for £6 or so (and tasty enough) is not bad. The downsides are not having enough staff to keep it clean and tidy - clearing glasses, wiping tables etc. And I loathe sticky menus. (I'd happily pay an extra 10p a pint to have new ones.) And the low prices do sometimes attract a few drinkers who are slightly too seasoned and edgy. So, in a nutshell it's good for well kept beer at good prices.

Wibbas caters to the masses though, so don't expect to wake up in the morning feeling like you've received a massive injection of culture, it's more likely the result of last night's pints.

Usual for this pub chain, no music & nice cheap drinks which attracts a lot of young people at the weekend. The normal starting point before hitting a club. The toilets are good here, bar service can be hit and miss depending on who and how many are serving. There are a few fruit machines and one quiz machine. A lot of seating, but will be full on the weekend.

Very much a local pub for local people!

Pub joy: - It's warm and cosy…read more- They had lots of beers for Marc to try - It has that welcoming happy-old-man-pub vibe - It's close to the cinema, so you can pop in for a drink before you watch a film... My little brother's friend told him to tell me that he loved this pub (it's a round-about way to find out about a pub...but meh) so I have been meaning to come here for a roast dinner for aaages. I still didn't manage to try the roast dinners, but I'll definitely come back to drink and relax with friends.

It's only a ~30 minute walk from Camden, ~20 minutes from Upper Street, and right off of the ever popular Holloway Road. The bartenders are great and the people are nice. The Swimmer is the kind of place that one does not go to unless one knows it exists. This keeps it from being the touristy O'Neil's and Whetherspoon's-eqsue pubs that one finds in Central London. As for the food, I have never had a meal here, (I hear good things) but the bar keeps a nice stock of peanuts and crisps for purchase.

This pub seems to have all the little extras that make a great pub. For a start the Juke Box (something which you really don't find in enough pubs) has an amazing array of songs, from the popular to the obscure allowing you to adjust the backing tracks to your night accordingly (although I did get some dirty looks when I put on 5 James bond themes in a row). The sofas (found to the rear of the bar) are incredibly comfortable and very easy to get enveloped by, I would recommend heading to the Highgate inn for these alone, the beer access is a plus. If that isn't for you there are plenty of normal seats and even the option to stand if you would like. In terms of drinks the array on offer is diverse (not ground breaking but certainly not dull). On occasion you may see the odd alcohol dispensing nick knack behind the bar (I once witnessed a bottle holster that caused a desperado bottle to float in mid air). Little props like a frog fountain that spews fog, 4-5 ft tall wooden horses and the occasional seal teddy hanging from the many abstract paintings create a hint of a quirky atmosphere without making that the theme of the pub. Should you feel the need to smoke you will be forced into the street but before you hit the pavement you can take refuge in the outside chairs complete with matching tables, not the best in the winter but better than having to dodge pedestrians. All in all this is a very under attended pub. The staff are helpful and polite, the locals and newcomers seem to get along well and the atmosphere is on par with most of the other pubs in Highgate (better than some).

It's all a bit mismatched and thrown together the way a pub should be. It reminded me of being in a little out of the way place in some village somewhere where the pretentiousness of London had passed by unnoticed. The beer on offer was ok, my London pride was pretty good although nothing special but for me the appeal of this place is the ease of getting a seat compared to the Woodman, the fact inside it's like pubs used to be before they all became identikit carbon copies of one another selling overpriced dismal food and trying too hard to be the next big foodie destination.
