It's fairly large and has 2 entrances to access it, so you can't miss it! ~ Variety: The actual store itself aside, WHSmith also houses the local post office. Whenever I'm in need of heading to the post office to mail something off, I always end up wandering around this massive store just for a bit of a browse. And there's plenty to browse from whether you're into books, board games, or even stationary. When it comes to books specifically, there is definitely a lot here. I've bought more than my share of Christmas presents from here before for the kids and adults; a beginner's guide to Minecraft, a Pokemon stickerbook, and a few cookbooks as well. It's probably cheating, but WHSmith makes Christmas shopping a breeze because I often come through for some inspiration on what to purchase as gifts with how much they have on offer. --- I do like WHSmith, but this WHSmith in particular is just plain awesome. It is always clean instead and you can find items very easily so it is well layed out. This WHSmith, like a few in the south Wales very now have a post office included, which is handy. Lovely store.

There is quite a large book section with a wide range of types of books. On a saturday you may have to wait to pay, but there is a till at the rear which is normally nice and quiet and helps beat the queue!

I've even found a few 1st editions here - didn't realise that until I got home with my bargains! Their cards are great value especially the ones with no message - the notecards. It's so easy to print your own message in them & at often £1 for 10 cards - one heck of a lot less expensive than buying ready made cards - often they look better too! I usually pop into the Works & invariably come out of there pleased with my purchases. I REALLY should go to the library more often - could save me a fortune!

The lines move quickly though. They have a nice selection of cards. Just for fun, I decided to shop for graduation and birthday cards. They have some interesting cards I have not seen before so I decided to buy some. I am not sure how they compare in price to other retail outlets but since I was here already, I bought them. This sells books, calendars, stationery, IT items, CDs and DVDs; and gifts - aimed mainly at children. Prices are fairly standard and provide pretty good value in my experience, but there are some good reductions on items like stationery, particularly if you aren't bothered by what's 'in-style.' As rappion says, some of the ranges are a bit limited, but their own ranges (eg calendars) offer good value for money. Upstairs is also an outlet of Costa Coffee, if you are in need of a break from shopping; tucked away to one side, it seems something of a hidden secret, so worth knowing about if you need a caffeine fix.

It's not huge, however, so they don't always have everything in stock - although they're very helpful if you need to order something in. Their range of second hand books is a bit over priced but can help save a few pennies at the start of term - although some titles are available far cheaper online. They also sell stationery and have a small section for fiction and other non-academic books, but there's more choice at Waterstones in the city centre, or online.

It is really just a lovely shop, and one that is entirely necessary because the university library often fails to deliver enough books for all its students. The service is very good. When I went in, looking for Dracula, I was in a great rush and didn't really look properly at the shelves. When I asked the customer assistant for help, in a state of obvious agitation, she stopped what she was doing immediately. She came over and picked up the book without any problems, and handed it to be with an understanding smile. I like to think that she just knows the shop inside out, rather than it was in an obvious spot! Whilst it doesn't offer that wonderful old book smell that you get in second hand shops, it does offer a great mix of books for courses and books for pleasure. There's also a wonderful array of stationery. I love stationery. Oh, I'm buying a book; I definitely need to get a new pencil case...

I…read morethink every local shopping area needs a decent book shop, but sadly many of them don't have one, presumably because the big high street chains and online stores such as Amazon are squeezing the little ones out. Wellfield Bookshop seems to be going strong, though. Despite its compact size, it has a good (if rather crammed-in!) range of fiction and non fiction lining its shelves, as well as some Welsh language titles, children's books, and travel guides. Obviously it can't compete with the likes of Waterstones in terms of '3 for 2' offers or range of stock, but it does the best it can with the space it has - and they will order in titles if they don't have them in stock. This is the only shop selling new books in the area (there are a few charity shops selling a random range of second hand novels, but that's about it), and luckily they seem to get a fair amount of custom. When I last visited on a day in the middle of the week there were several other customers browsing the shop - let's hope it stays that way.

It is quite a cosy little shop, long and thin and with childrens books at the back - as it should be! As an independent bookshop it has some wonderful idiosyncrasies. Firstly, what I would have normally classed as 'fiction' is titled 'general'. I quite like this. Obviously a section for books that you might actually read. You know, general books! There are specialist sections also, including health and education etc. My particular favourite was the religion section. I have never seen so many books about Angels. Earth Angels, Angel Tarot, Pet Angels etc. There was a fair few sets of tarot and bibles of magic etc. And then, just next the famous 'Power of Now', tucked down in a corner, was a couple of Bibles. This shop definitely has its own identity!
