My sister and I have matching silver diving whale tail pendants. These are NOT the usual trinkets you find in the souvenir shops that you find all over the place. My husband was instantly drawn in by the dog sitting in the driver's seat of a truck out front, but I digress. This is the only place we purchased artwork to remember our trip. The gallery has many unique pieces of art, from paintings and prints to guitar picks made out of fossilized bone and locally made jewelry. Each artist featured is a Skagway local and very in touch with the culture and vibe of the location so you know you are taking home something meaningful and not just another souvenir.

Knowledgeable employees showed off some of the eagles, hawks and owls that were being cared for after being injured. The large back room of the museum features an incredible display of local animals. We also heard an interpretive talk on the challenges facing sea turtles. Definitely worth a visit if you have the time.
