I actually had shoulder surgery here in July 2025 with Dr. Kozempa. The nurses that prepped me were…read moreall very friendly and even joked around with me a bit while I got ready. Dr. Kozempa came in and went over the procedure and asked if I was ready--I said "heck yeah" and a few minutes later (to me) I woke up in recovery. I was groggy and out of it but my wife said everything went great and the whole thing was less than 45 minutes. I went home with my sling already on my arm and my after care instructions which listed everything I needed. Aurora even helped me set up physical therapy so I could go home and rest and not worry about trying to do that. However, 3 days later I found out I was allergic to Percocet (never had an allergic reaction before to it). We came back here to the ER and everyone treated me great. Figured out it was indeed an allergic reaction and they told us what we could use instead and they added the allergy to my medical file. It's been 9 months and I have not had a single issue with my shoulder! I would definitely want Dr. Kozempa to do my surgery again if it was something for orthopedics. He did a fantastic job, had great beside manner and now I can finally use my arm after not being able to for 6 years!

My family member did receive quality care and was just charged in a few days which was fantastic and that's the whole premise of the place so happy and grateful for that!

On February 18, 2026, I went to the hospital for a routine colonoscopy. Instead of receiving care,…read moreI experienced humiliating treatment related to my gender identity. During pre-op, Dr. Lee yelled in my face, "Are you a woman?" and asked if I needed a pregnancy test, even though my chart lists me as male. I had already explained that I previously lived as a transgender woman and currently wear a chest binder while awaiting surgery clearance. Despite this, I felt mocked and singled out in front of others. In the end, the doctor refused to perform the exam. I left without the procedure and still do not know whether I may have a serious medical issue. I reported the incident and spoke with a manager today, who told me the staff "did nothing wrong." That response was extremely upsetting and suggests that this type of treatment toward LGBTQ patients is being dismissed rather than addressed. No patient should be humiliated or denied medical care because of their gender identity. Patients deserve dignity, respect, and appropriate medical treatment. Everyone deserves to be treated with basic respect and dignity. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, provides better training to their staff, and works to ensure that all customers--regardless of gender identity--are treated fairly.

The level of care provided felt inadequate, especially for patients who were clearly ill and in need of attention. One situation that stood out was a patient who had accidentally overdosed and was not treated with the urgency or compassion you would expect. Her condition seemed to be overlooked, and she ended up waiting for hours without proper care. Overall, the lack of empathy, long wait times (over 5 hours in the waiting room), and poor treatment of vulnerable patients is very concerning. I would not recommend this facility based on my experience.

It's odd that there's both a real Emergency Room and an Urgent Care at the same location. My Chief…read moreof Staff came to the Emergency Room on her own after stubbornly ignoring stroke symptoms until the symptoms went away. Thus, what she experienced was a Transient Ischemic Attack, which shaved off a few years of my life from worry. This is pertinent because the young (they are all young) physician and physicians assistant seeing her explained to her why I was concerned and why she should have immediately gone to an Emergency Room when experiencing dizziness and left sided weakness and numbness. I am reporting symptoms so everyone knows the signs of a stroke, slurred speech, weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, dizziness, strange smells (burnt toast), disorientation, especially very early in the morning when blood pressure is usually highest. When you see symptoms like this, get to a real Emergency Room (not an urgent care) right away. If the symptoms go away on their own, it's only a TIA, which is a warning that you or the patient is at higher risk of a true stroke, and it's so much better for diagnosis if you can get the patient to an EKG and CT scan or MRI while they still have the symptoms. If it's a true stroke (a cerebrovascular accident), there's lots of treatment now available that can dramatically increase not just chances of recovery but also the possibility of recovery with good prognosis. Don't spend time in denial. While the physician, PA, nurse, and radiology tech were all great, Froedtert has outrageous rates, and very aggressive billing. Other than the medical staff, the organization is just bloodthirsty bureaucratic capitalist greed incarnate.

I've been made felt like I was wasting their time, where truly they've wasted mine. I sat patiently and waited on care/answers. The NP that serviced me that evening did the bare minimum, and the M.A should have given a more kind and welcoming attitude. As customer healthcare service is highly important as we the patients is who they service we are the consumers. I left my two young children at home with my husband for an urgent matter only to leave feeling like I wasn't taken care of. I am still in pain and still with worry for my health. I am sadden to say I will not recommend this location to family or friends as I am a fellow health team member and I am disappointed in my experience.

I've grown disenchanted with the aggressive and insulting insurance shakedown process at…read moreColumbia-St. Mary's. They have some excellent physicians and paraprofessional staff, but in order to get treatment, you have to penetrate a thick protective covering of non-medical, unsympathetic, call center drones who clearly prioritize ability to pay. I hope you never know the discomfort of diverticulitis, but under those conditions it's even more annoying to have to repeat all your insurance information no less than five times to make a distant appointment to see a physician. So lower back pain isn't quite at that level, but I didn't want to play a long game of phone tag and proving over and over again that I have good insurance so I was attracted to a Wheaton Franciscan orthopedic clinic website that seemed to allow appointment requests via e-mail. As it turns out, no one monitors those email requests, so you have to go through the phone process in a very similar manner to the other big giant hospital corporation. I was complaining about this situation to a nurse friend who was complaining about the negative reviews here, blaming the patients for using the urgent care facilities instead of making appointments with the appropriate primary care or specialist physicians and I realized none of the workers from bottom to top have any idea of how hard it is to do that when you're really uncomfortable. There's some serious cultural lag here, I can make appointments using Internet technology with my dentist, I can make my own appointments and choose my seat assignments online for travel by airplane, it's just ridiculous that the medical profession insists on sticking with 1970s communication technology for scheduling. They sent my paperwork by snail mail, for me to hand write, so when I got there they manually entered it into the system! It's like some Soviet bureaucrat designed their intake system. Okay, so the point of my rant here is to put things in perspective. Wheaton Franciscan is not any worse than the other two big box hospital corporations in terms of prioritizing patient ability to pay, being inconvenient to gain entry, and as having numerous costly and indefensible predatory charges. The whole industry makes air travel charges seem absolutely benign and kindly. Health care doesn't follow the usual laws of supply and demand, the highest prices are found where the greatest concentration of physicians and hospital facilities are found. Wheaton Franciscan doesn't overcharge any more than the other two, and once you get in here, the physicians, nurses, and techs are highly competent. Parking is easy, convenient and free. This location has a nice cafeteria, this is one area where some visible progress has been made since the 1970s.
