This place is known for providing good southern comfort food. My friends and I tried the prime rib and Gouda stack, the chicken and waffles, their mashed potatoes, their salmon, macaroni and cheese, and their whiskey cake. The whiskey cake is probably this restaurant's saving grace as the cake is decadent moist, and the combination of the pecans with the caramel and the whipped cream all just make it so delicious. It was definitely worth the wait to have it at the end and in retrospect, it probably would have done well to have first since the food that we ordered was a little more on the lackluster side. I found it hard to be impressed by the prime rib and Gouda stack as they were no defining flavors for this rather expensive sandwich and the mac and cheese was also not very memorable. When it comes to the service provided at the restaurant, there were many times where it felt as though our table had been forgotten to be waited upon, despite there not being many other people at the restaurant. Overall, I think my experience at Whiskey Cake was OK and while I may not return for the food necessarily, I would for the cake.

For me, it almost hit the mark but it seemed to be missing something. The seasoning could've been more robust but I want to try it again before I make a final judgement.

Hmm. not too sure how to feel about it. I loved whiskey cake so much when I lived in Katy -- so much so that I would take everyone who visited me there. but since moving to austin three years ago, I haven't had it + was excited to try this location. we went for brunch and the menu was pretty limited on options. it's almost as if you were forced to select a sandwich because the actual brunch meals made no sense/felt lazy. for example, the chicken and waffles were chicken *tenders*, not regular fried chicken.. that feels very lazy. I order the yard bird. it was an oven baked chicken with veggies. good, but not worth $22. I could've made it at home. everyone else at the table basically ordered pancakes with eggs or French toast because the menu was literally that limited, there was no "oo I want to try that!" moment. The service was great as we were a big party. The staff kept coming to our table to apologize on the long wait times; which was confusing because there was barely anyone in the restaurant... but the parking lot was full? where were all of those people? I don't know. the experience wasn't bad but, it didn't hold up to the standard of whiskey cake that I'm used to. especially for $66. the Katy location was so good, it even smelled like whiskey cake. and I remembered this restaurant brand having more culinary forward items like their blue cheese chips during happy hour. (which i lovedddd) If I'm ever out in Round Rock again, I may give it another try, but it won't be for brunch.

Wow. Just wow. This place is amazing. The atmosphere is laid back. They even have some community dining tables. Music is towards the alt. The servers are sooooo friendly. Everything about this place rocks. The food was delicious! We tried the goat cheese appetizer with sourdough. They mix it at the table which is cool because they explain what each of the ingredients is. I had a steak salad and my friend had the chopped chicken salad. Both amazing. But the winner is that whiskey cake. So luxurious. Not too sweet. With a huge heaping of real whipped cream. Easily can feel 3 or 4 people! Cocktails are refined and boozy!

I really like Whiskey Cake Kitchen and frequent some of the locations in the Houston area. This was my first time dining at the Round Rock location. They're all set up pretty similarly so it felt familiar when I walked in. Our server was Kayla. She was very nice and attentive. Drinks: I started with the Pineapple Cilantro Smash. I absolutely love cilantro, and really enjoy it in cocktails. This drink was good, but it had a spicy kick to it (from the Scrappy's Firewater Bitters). I also had the Guava Gimlet which is one of my faves. It's sweet and smooth. Apps: I cannot resist the Deviled Eggs! One thing I really appreciate about Whiskey Cake is that the toppings change seasonally and you never know what you're going to get. At the time of our visit (November 2025), the eggs had grilled onions, chives, a cream sauce, and a potato chip! It was different but so creative and delicious! We also had the Fire Roasted Brussels Sprouts which we thoroughly enjoyed. The Boursin and Parmesan Cheeses were so good! Entrée: I had the Fish 'N Chips. Nothing could have prepared me for the portion of this entrée. It was easily enough for two people to share! The fish took up the entire plate. I really enjoyed the malt vinegar and tartar sauce, especially with the lemon juice that I squeezed on the fish. The chips that came with it were tasty! It was so much food! My mom had the Grilled Shrimp Rigatoni while my stepdad had the Wood Grilled Salmon. They both enjoyed their food. Dessert: We had to have the Whiskey Cake (which is the only dessert on the menu). The cake is served warm and it is so good! I love the house made vanilla whipped cream and I like that they give an entire bowl of it for the table. I really appreciate how consistent Whiskey Cake Kitchen is with their food and service. Hopefully Austin will get more locations in the future.

Holy shit, when are we going back? Some friends were in from Houston and made us a brunch reservation. They were familiar with the restaurant but I was a first timer (first of many I foresee!) I wish I had taken pictures of everything. I ordered the fish n chips and it was the best I've had in austin so far! My other half got the crab Benedict and *chefs kiss* I wanted to order the Fried green tomatoes but they were out today, so that just gives me another reason to go back. Our server was good, especially considering we were a table of 9 and not the only large group she had! Heads up, Apple Maps will take you through the Rudy's parking lot, just go with it. Bathrooms are clean and parking was decent! Highly recommend!!!

It has been a few years since I have been to Whiskey Cake. A friend who lives in Round Rock, TX invited me to the Whiskey Cake happy hour aka Social Hour (3-6 pm). Whiskey Cake has a warm, homey and rustic feeling. The happy hour menu has a variety of items to choose from. The Social Hour has reasonably priced menu items, which are primed for sharing. The Social Hour features small plates including Wagyu corn dogs, BBQ spiced pork rinds, blue cheese kettle chips, grit fritters, and meat and cheese boards. Social Hour usually features discounted classic cocktails such as margaritas, martinis, guava gimlets, and house wines and select draft beers. That is the good news regarding Whiskey Cake. Now for the not so good news...The focal point of this Whiskey is the three long high-bar tables in the center of the room with folks on both sides of the tables. There is a small partition separating you from the guests next two you. The noise level was so high in this Whiskey Cake I could hardly hear my friend speak. It felt like we were yelling and not having a normal conversation. The likelihood we will return to Whiskey Cake is extremely low.

Legitimately the best meal we had in all of Texas - and might be in the top 3 meals of all time for me! All of our food was incredible and the service was fantastic!

Grabbed lunch here with a big group of family and was pleasantly surprised. We had a reservation, which I would recommend for a large party on a Saturday afternoon. I got an espresso martini and it was a little sweeter than I prefer, but still good. We shared some appetizers as a table: deviled eggs and biscuits and gravy. Both were very good. I shared the Brussels sprouts and fish and chips with my cousin. Delish! We finished with a shared sticky toffee and it was incredible! Highly recommend if in the area!

This was my second time at Whiskey Cake, and the vibe is warm and fun, and it was definitely busy, so I'm really glad we made a reservation. Without one, the wait would have been rough. We decided to make a meal out of appetizers and ordered four to share. Everything came out of the kitchen crazy fast and was served hot and fresh. The charcuterie board was the best one. We also had the deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, and the onion dip, and all of it was really tasty. We planned on sharing the whiskey cake for dessert, but we were completely stuffed and couldn't eat another bite. Portions were generous, and we still ended up bringing leftovers home. Service was friendly and checked in just enough. Overall, it's a solid spot with good food, a lively atmosphere, and it's a good idea to book a reservation ahead of time. I'd definitely go back again.

Wow!! We were looking for a brunch spot in Round Rock and this place surpassed all of our expectations. The food was superb, everything we ordered came out hot, super fresh and absolutely amazing! Service was quick and efficient, even for a busy weekend day during brunch. If you visit, you MUST order the jalapeño biscuits - they are incredible. Also highly recommend the short stack pancakes and the steak & egg hash - both were to die for. The indoor seating is vast and the decor/furniture makes this place such a vibe. Highly recommend - I would come here every weekend if I lived in the area!

It's gone down hill. So basically they keep removing amazing items off the menu and replacing them with mediocre cheaper or just plain old worse items. I don't buy for one bit all the items they have removed over the years weren't selling well enough to keep so they eighty-sixed them. Croquet madam for example was amazing not just by my standards but people used to post it all the time and so what do they naturally do they removed it from brunch and replaced it with more burgers dry scrambled eggs and dry biscuits and tasteless roasted dry chicken. Same with the chicharrones they used to have for happy hour they sold so well they where consistently on everyone's table when I'd go have beer with my wife also a highly posted item on social media and where recommended every time we went. What do they do ? They removed them permanently and pretended they never existed lol. Again I'm just giving a couple out of many examples of why this place is working against its own interests. Most people I ask if they want to eat there or have been there lately have told me it's no longer on their radar because the food they do keep on the menu is just so so and not worth the price. Great ambiance nice staff mediocre to just ok drinks and slightly overpriced for what you get. The place is very clean nicely decorated pretty warm and inviting yet the food doesn't match which makes it a huge missed for me personally. If you read most of my reviews I always consider everything as a whole and rarely nag about stuff because I want to be positive and highlight great businesses not rant and complain like other people with a sense of entitlement do. Meaning you can't just chalk this up to me being one of those consistently negative reviewers that just wants to feel special and important, I truly know this place can do better and have experienced when there where good and know they can come back before it's too late. I want them to succeed and start serving that awesome food I had once enjoyed coming here for. Yet I can't help but feel like the response to this will be something related to how they have never had such complaints and everyone seems to enjoy the hard work they put into making amazing food and sorry I don't also enjoy it ,lol . I really want to like this place yet if I lie to you and say it's perfect and everything is amazing just to flatter the restaurant then what's the use of any of these reviews if flattery is more important than just stating what you don't like about the experience. Either way some people will still like this place for their own reasons meaning my opinion is just subjective to my taste and I encourage others to take these opinions with a grain of salt and see for themselves ,as we all should.

This was my first time at Whiskey Cake, a chain of restaurants owned by a conglomerate that also owns Velvet Taco. Others in our group of 5 had enjoyed this restaurant on multiple occasions. We had reservations and were seated on the glassed-in porch on the North side of the restaurant. While the ambience of that location was great, the space was quite noisy, making it difficult to hear one another at times. The area where we were sitting seemed to empty out around 7 or so. With happy hour ending at 6, the early clientele likely finished around that time. Service was excellent, and food and drinks were tasty and innovative. The menu is pretty limited, so it's worth staying open-minded and trying something you wouldn't normally choose. My husband and I did that by ordering the prime rib and gouda stack, a sandwich packing a flavor punch with its blend of ingredients. This came with a choice of a side. Others in our group ordered salmon, fish and chips, and another variety of sandwich with fries. There are also salad and beef options. The ketchup served with the fries was exceptionally good. I was told it's made in house. For dessert, everyone had the only choice on the menu, (surprise!) Whiskey Cake. The chocolately, pecan-topped moist cake was served atop 2 sauces and topped by the waitstaff with fresh whipped cream. My husband and I shared one (it was more than enough for us). Pricing is definitely on the high side for what you get. It's justified on some level by the quality and freshness of ingredients, but between the limited menu, pricing, and noise level, this isn't a restaurant I'd visit on a regular basis. We enjoyed the experience and definitely recommend giving the place a try.

They are NOT a virtual kitchen - and it is just as well that they are not a virtual kitchen. They make it sound like Chronic Fries is borrowing space from Urban Chicken. Chronic Fries is not "borrowing space" from Urban Chicken. The two institutions are one and the same. The menu for one is printed on the back of the menu for other. They may have a complicated ownership structure - But that does not get around the fact that this is simply a fast food restaurant where you can order both chicken and fries. * * * I don't see why Chronic Fries would want to be a virtual kitchen. Virtual kitchens are awful antiseptic places where there is no place to sit down. In a virtual kitchen, you get your food from a numbered box. In a virtual kitchen, there is screen against a wall from which you order. Otherwise, you use your phone. It takes effort to make contact with a human being. Virtual Kitchens are total THX 1138. Virtual kitchens s**k. * * * Chronic Fries/Urban Chicken is a nifty place for a fast food restaurant. They have tons of seating both indoors and outdoors. The crowd is heavily college-age which may or may not be collegiate. The crowd is diverse the way Round Rock is diverse. The crowd has a lot of church kids the way Round Rock has a lot of church kids. My male companion and I were the oldest people in the place. Virtual kitchens don't have crowds - let alone young ones. * * * The fries are super-duper. (Okay, for a college aged place, I probably should have used a term less dated than "super-duper".) For the maximum french fry bliss experience, get any version with chicken on top. Some versions give you chicken automatically. All versions let you order chicken on top as an add-on. Urban Chicken does a good chicken And what goes on your French Fries will be top notch. We got three kinds of fries. The standout was the BBQ Mac and Cheese Fries. Hot Cheetos Fries were just what they sound like. The sides that don't have much Hot Cheetos on them are not all that interesting. You get to the part with industrial quantities of ground up Hot Cheetos on top and, Suddenly things start to go live action. Plain macaroni and cheese fries are not that exciting by themselves. But they sell about half a dozen sauces to put on top of your macaroni and cheese fries. Some of those look like they could make a real compelling argument That they belong on your fries If your toppings are not exotic enough already. * * * Just for the record, they also run a soft-serve operation. That soft-serve operation offers milk shakes as a possible beverage. Thumbs up on the soft serve milk shakes. Their version of an Oreo Milkshake has about a truckload of Oreo crumbs dumped on top. On a milkshake that means that the crumbs end up all on the bottom with your maraschino cherry. Why oh why, in the 21st century, do we still have to put up with maraschino cherries? Why oh why, in the 20th century, the 19th century, the 18th century or any century that you can possibly think of, do we still have to put up with maraschino cherries? The church kids eating at the various tables around you can probably explain to you that because Eve ate the Apple in the Garden of Eden - and Adam ate the apple too - that they were thrown out of the Garden of Eden - and forced to have maraschino cherries on top of their desserts. God's love and the Forgiveness of Jesus Christ gives you the really good Oreo Milkshake that surrounds that maraschino cherry. I have no idea if that theology is sound ... But the Oreo milkshake is objectively good And the difficulty of sucking up those Oreo crumbs with your straw Is the exact equivalent of attaining heaven merely by the force of good works. * * * First rate fries. First rate toppings. First rate drinks. A corporate office with an identity problem. And religious people to talk to in the seats If the fries inspire you to seek a higher way. * * * What's not to like? (Outside of the identity problem.)

The Starlet drink was very good. We ordered a Smoked Chicken Sandwich with Parm Fries & split the food. We were both full & the food was so good! We love the way the place was decorated! We have been a couple of more times since November & have been pleased every time!

Great Gatsby in Round Rock is the vibes the decor gives here...BUT the food let's get into it! My dish was supposed to be served with rice and our waitress was so sweet to inform they were out and asked if I'd be okay with mashed potatoes as a sub...yes ma'am I will. Things happen lol I'm just glad she informed me I'm not picky! My was the meal a delight. That SAUCE is so delicious it would prob be great with lamb chops too but anyways. I had a great time, all the staff was friendly and welcoming from time we stepped in until we left. They also have a patio out back but since the weather is bipolar right now we opted for inside seating. This is prob one of my new favorite places and I've been telling all my friends they have to check this place out. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

They play pop music videos as well as Country Western and Latin music. The staff are friendly and fun to talk with. Today I met Junior the bartender and Marcos the owner. I got a plate of chips and salsa with a water shortly after taking a seat. The menu comes as a physical menu as well as virtual (QR Code). I ordered the Latin Burger which consisted of an angus beef patty, served on a bed of melted cheese, accompanied by caramelized onions, bacon, tomato and lettuce. It is super juicy since the meat is bought fresh from a butcher in Georgetown. It comes with French fries too. I also had a Love Street Draft Beer. The food and the conversation will make you want to return over and over. Thank you Marcos and Junior for making me feel at home!

The Bichota cocktail was a standout--sweet, refreshing, and with just enough of a kick to keep you sipping slowly. The Old Fashioned was equally impressive: sweet yet balanced, served in a stylish glass with a unique holder that made the experience feel elevated. For food, the chicharrón with fried yuca and tostones was perfection. The pork was fried to a crisp golden shell without being greasy, and seasoned just right--not too salty, but enough to make every bite crave-worthy. The yuca and tostones were cut to the perfect thickness for even cooking, with a satisfying crunch outside and tender inside, especially when dipped into their garlicky sauce. The cheese sticks are an absolute must-have--crispy outside, oozy inside, and dangerously addictive. And the arepas? Exceptionally good--stuffed with beans, cheese, beef, and sweet plantains for that perfect salty-sweet balance. Every plate showed attention to texture, seasoning, and presentation. Price Considering the quality of ingredients, creative plating, and generous portions, the prices felt fair for a fusion dining experience. The cocktails were crafted with care and worth every penny. Appetizers could easily be shared, making it easy to get variety without breaking the bank. Environment We sat outside and it was amazing for groups, dates, and inside it is super cool. The décor is not fancy but really fun Austin style. There is a section bar where they play music which I want to try. Service The service was cool and amicable. It looks the server was new but he did give recommendations. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great pairing suggestions. Dishes came out at a good pace, and drinks were refreshed quickly. You could tell the staff was proud of the food they were serving, which made the whole experience even better. Overall: If you're looking for a place where Latin flavors meet creative execution, this spot is worth the visit. Come hungry, order a mix of small plates, and don't skip the cocktails--or the garlic sauce.

They make the wait time enjoyable by talking, smiling, and kidding around. We all broke out laughing when an older couple in their nineties walked right past me and took my seat at the counter. It was the funniest thing. But I was still able to get a seat at the counter, and what a joy that was. I wished I knew the guy's name and the names of the gentlemen behind him delivering the food. They were the best group of people! I know you all are waiting on the food review! Well, I'll tell you that everything was perfectly made, thanks to a great staff! I hope this place never loses its charm, its friendliest staff, and the fluffiest of pancakes. I've never met a group of people who can make you feel so great and deliver the best breakfast.

The pancakes are fluffy and the eggs are always done correctly. Although the food is quite delicious the service needs work. A manager seated at the food counter would solve some server errors. For example, "no arugula" was missed, no syrup was given for the pancakes, no water for the table, no water was offered, and a side of avocado was forgotten. These are server issues and maybe the cook didn't read the ticket correctly. This will not stop me from returning, but if they would like to increase the star rating, this needs to be corrected quickly. Lastly, adding sound wall panels will help with the loudness of the dining area.
