I was part of a program and it ended in a retreat at Whispertree. So we stayed here for 3 or 4 days in September 2024 for the retreat. There were between 30 and 40 of us here. I stayed in the house (can't recall the name now). Most of the group stayed at the camps. The bed was reasonably comfortable. They do have a beautiful kitchen. We catered our food. We only used the kitchen to boil water for tea. It was the bee season and our food was feeding the bees nicely. It was a moment to appreciate the co-existence in the nature. There was a hot tub on site. I didn't have time to enjoy it but I had some happy friends at night. There was an outdoor shower area and it looked quite nice. The bathrooms here are rustic yet modern? If that makes sense. The campus here is incredibly beautiful. The trees treated us nicely. There were many good memories left here and we were lucky to secure the facility for our retreat. Our program was pretty packed. I wished I had more time to explore the campus. It was beautiful here. read more

I recently led a retreat here and couldn't have asked for a better experience for me or my group! The space is incredibly beautiful inside and out, and the land holds a vibration of depth, safety, and generosity that is still blowing my mind. I felt comforted and supported, inspired and emboldened as a leader. Every detail was taken care of and every creature comfort was there! My guests were incredibly happy with the spaces and we had plenty of room for all of us. It's amazing how the land supported such deep work, as if the wisdom of all groups prior to ours had somehow primed and opened up the space for us to take our personal and collective journeys of transformation. You can feel all of the love and care of the owners and all of the stewards of the land who came before. It was magical, sacred, safe, transformative, deep, joyful, peaceful and more. Meredith and I were married at Whispertree in May of 2023 - and we can't say enough about how much we loved it. The staff were all so attentive, mature, and generous with their time, attention and expertise. The lodging for us and our guests was beautifully appointed, comfortable, and felt like such an integrated part of the experience. Loved our night under the sail-cloth tent and dancing in the barn! Even a year later, we still hear from friends and family who were there with us about how special the land was as part of our celebration. And the thing I personally loved the most was that, since we chose to have most of our guests stay on-site for two and, for some, three nights, there was a such a spaciousness for everyone to slow down, really connect, and truly get to know each other. The owner of this property is run by greed. I paid $900 for a room for a 3 night retreat that was starting as the snow was building momentum. Understandably, this center is not built to operate in snow and freezing cold. Instead of canceling and refunding us, they gave the okay for all of us to come. It was miserably cold as they were without power and the generator kept failing. Even with the generator, the heat was minimal and the cook for the retreat was forced to use the outdoor kitchen without heat. Less than 24 hours later, I had to leave due to the medical impact of the cold, and I lost $900. They knew about the weather at their altitude and the limitations of the their facility but still decided to run the "retreat." read more

I have been out to Whispertree twice now back when it was called Bell Valley Retreat. The property is absolutely amazing and the entire atmosphere is peaceful. For me, I plan to try and go back at least once a year to really relive the opportunities to commune with nature. In July 2021 I hosted a writing retreat in the Barn at Bell Valley retreat. The rooms and facilities were amazing - we had all the necessities plus the little extras that made us feel pampered. Things like extra throw blankets, a jar of earplugs (in case you room with a loud sleeper), and a wonderful style/aesthetic throughout up-leveled the experience of our retreat. The entire property is well-maintained while still being natural. Trails were well-marked, outside benches and chairs and sofas were dust-free and inviting, lavender bushes kept the bees humming and every morning there was a flock of baby quails than ran across the yard. The entire place is straight out of a fairytale. There's even a giant Madrone tree that provides shade for amphitheater-style seating where we held writing salons. The site manager - Kendra, and the facilities manager - Sara, were super helpful in orienting us to the property. And they were genuinely kind in all communications and follow up. This is a beautiful and peaceful retreat with comfortable lodging and amazing views (including the night sky - simply stunning!). But the crown jewel of this place is the delicious food lovingly prepared by Chef Eden and her team. It's always hard to leave a rave review for a 'secret gem' that you selfishly wish will remain a secret for reasons of availability...but honestly, the Bell Valley Retreat needs to be shared with the world. My husband, two dogs and I have been visiting Bell Valley Retreat annually for a couple years now and absolutely love it. Where else can you stay in cozy accommodations just 9 minutes from a cute town (Boonville) and have access to 5+ miles of beautiful Mendocino countryside trails? This is a no-brainer getaway location for us...we stay in the Creekside Cottage but dogs are allowed in the other houses too (although not tents). Units are thoughtfully appointed. From heated mattress pads on high quality mattress, to eco-friendly soap and shampoo in the spotless bathhouse, to tasteful and simple design of the kitchen, yurt and bathhouse... our visit was perfect. The Toll House Inn is the perfect weekend escape from San Francisco. Located just a few hours away, it and the adorable town of Boonville transports you to a simpler time. A quiet atmosphere with no TV, but great wine and beer, leaves plenty of time for clearing you mind, playing card games and just talking with whomever you bring along with you for the adventure. The inn is beautiful, with architecture and elegant farmhouse decor that I can only dream my future home will emulate, and is complete with a spacious deck and backyard. The inn keepers are very respectful, responsive and helpful. They even upgraded us to the suite because it was available. I suggest checking out the local breweries while you're in town. The inn is a short drive away from Anderson Valley Brewing Company, and about 20 miles away from Mendocino Brewing Company. Hit up Ukiah Brewing Company, North Coast Brewing Company, and Bear Republic on your way back to SF. I also highly recommend grabbing dinner in downtown Boonville at Lauren's. We'll definitely be staying at the Toll House Inn again. read more

I was literally the FIRST guest to stay in this wonderful B and B upon is grand re-opening. The staff was very helpful and kind, if a bit nervous to see 4 bachelors descend on their newly retrofitted hotel on the eve of their opening. The place is quiet, quaint and comfortable, but probably the superstar of the experience is the breakfast - awesome granola/yogurt/coffee and SCONES! Ideally the house would be set a little further back from the main highway to reduce the minor amount of noise, but the grounds are great for hiking, relaxing and having said awesome breakfast outside on the deck. You will be in cell phone no fly zone - probably a minus one star (or more) for most, but actually a positive in my opinion - this is true rustic Mendocino relaxation. Go - and enjoy - but watch out for deer jumping in front of your car! read more

So glad to have found this little gem. We did not know until the last minute if we were going to head up to Boonville/Navarro area and I was able to book online (for the same evening) which was really convenient. The innkeeper called me to confirm our reservation and even called to warn me when we were enroute that Highway 128 was closed due to an accident. We arrived late in the evening (long after the innkeeper left for he day) but she left a lovely, welcoming note and a small bottle of wine chilling in the fridge. They even had a crib that was already set up and in the room when we arrived. The inn is nicely decorated...Modern yet very warm and inviting. Although there was no cell reception, there was a housephone guests could use as well as free wifi. Unfortunately we had to check out super early, but the innkeeper packed up some fruit and scones for us before we headed off. So nice!! The scones were super yummy and it took some definite will power to save one for the hubby. (Hmm, perhaps I can call and ask for the recipe) I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone/everyone I know passing through the area. read more

We fell in love with The Toll House! The decor and garden were very charming. We stayed at the Bunkhouse for a weekend, and both the kids and adults enjoyed the bunk beds. It had a kitchen and all the amenities we needed. Also the owners were thoughtful to provide us with milk, granola, coffee, fruits, and a bottle of wine. Our favorite were the outdoor showers. There are trails for short hikes, and a lovely pond was a nice surprise. We highly recommend staying here, and we will be back. read more

The Toll House Inn is a beautiful country house in a beautiful setting. It is small enough to feel intimate but big enough to not feel claustrophobic, and you have plenty of privacy. The decor of the place is spot-on if you like modern farmhouse. The living room is incredibly warm feeling, with rustic but modern wood and fabrics that are really nice to lounge around in. The fireplace is also a nice touch for cool nights. We actually cut our daytime activities short to go back and sit by the fire. :) The surroundings are fantastic too - rolling hills and the farm. Within an hour are some of the best wineries in Northern California in the Anderson Valley and Ukiah areas, plus the state parks along the coast and the nice town of Mendocino. Add to it some very friendly innkeepers and a delicious serve-yourself breakfast, it is a great place to stay. Highly recommended. read more

This is the fifth year that we have stayed at the Toll House on the first weekend of August to visit a multitude of wineries and enjoy the annual Navarro Vineyard Picnic. We always attend with an extended family and this year, we occupied, the main house, the bunkhouse and the cottage down the private road. 15 adults and 2 children. We fully utilize the house and facilities, using the kitchens and grills. This allows us to enjoy the wine we bought each day and have delicious family meals without anyone having to worry about driving on the road. One past issue we had was the upstairs rooms being warm on hot days, but in addition to the whole house fan, the Toll House added room air conditioners upstairs! We were very pleased by this addition. This year, they also had two outdoor grills set up instead of one, which greatly aided cooking for our large group. One of our first time guests this year who spent time in the hospitality industry commented that you could run a small restaurant out of the main house kitchen. The bunkhouse also has a well stocked kitchen and beautiful bathroom for smaller groups. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need to survive the first evening and morning with milk, half and half, coffee, tea, granola, and even ice cream this time. I was married at the Toll House September last year. Best decision ever!! Although my husband and I live about 3hrs away from Boonville, we knew we wanted to get married here as soon as we saw the place. The house, property, and views are absolutely gorgeous, and it ended up being the perfect spot for our big party! My whole experience as bride/coordinator/planner was as easy as it could be, thanks to Eric (the director) and his team at the Toll House. Eric was incredibly responsive to my many questions, he helped accommodate everything we wanted to do, and is just an all-around great guy! He obviously has a passion for what he does, and I can't wait to see how the Toll House evolves over time! He is constantly planning new additions/features for the place, so who knows what'll be available next year!! Since we rented the whole property, a number of friends and family were able to stay the weekend with us, making it such a fun, retreat-like wedding experience. My husband and I stayed in the Creekside cottage, which served as the perfect, private honeymooner's "suite," while our friends stayed in the adorable bell tents, or camped nearby. Everyone that came to our wedding commented on how incredible the venue was. It was a long journey for most guests, but once they saw the property, they understood why we chose it for our big day! Everything was perfect - I got ready in the main Toll House room where my mom stayed, did portraits in the back yard, and had our ceremony on top of the hill, in front of their amazing, giant, ancient Madrone tree (I think that tree, on it's own, sold me on the venue!). The whole property provides SO many fantastic photo ops, in all of its natural beauty and small, unique details. Reception was held back at the main house, where we ate, drank, and danced the night away! The whole day wound down to us sitting around the bonfire, laughing with our best friends, like we've done on so many camping trips and backyard BBQs in the past, it was everything, and so perfect for us. There are some logistical challenges involved when planning a rural wedding, however, Eric and team provided lots of resources and suggestions for us to work with, and ultimately, I wouldn't have changed a thing... we had the absolute best day of our lives! I recently stayed with my family, who came to visit from the East Coast - they not only loved the accommodations but were in awe of the gorgeous setting. The house itself has an effortlessly warm, welcoming and uniquely Anderson Valley style. Staying there for the weekend was an idyllic and restful retreat from the hectic pace of life. Exploring the property is a great activity in and of itself and I loved ending the day hanging out by the fire with family. Andrea, the innkeeper, was also so helpful and communicative. We took a last minute trip to Anderson Valley for wine tasting and hiking mid week between Christmas and New Years. We had no reservations and were deciding between Boonville Hotel and Toll House Inn. We decided to try something new - Toll House Inn. It was exactly what we were looking for. The entire house, the rooms and the bathrooms are beautifully done -- elegant, casual and cozy all rolled up in one. Everything feels very clean and new. The common living room is super warm and inviting. We spent the entire morning reading books in the living room after a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, tea/coffee, yogurt, homemade granola and fresh baked scones. It was also an incredible value with rooms ranging between $150-$250 which included breakfast. There was a beautiful garden off the living room. It was raining otherwise it'd be a great place to hang out and enjoy a glass of wine. Each room comes with a half bottle of Handley wine. The only slight con of Toll House Inn is that it's in Soda Springs about 5 miles east on HWY 253 from downtown Boonville. We felt it was well worth the extra drive time. We learned that the previous incarnation of the location had a more Victorian look and feel and that it has changed owners. The new owners did a significant remodel that is contemporary, charming and warm. The new version just opened 6 months ago. It was a perfect setting to relax and get away whether you want to get out and do some wine tasting or curl up and read. read more

Fantastic place. I came with my parents for one night and we stayed in the blue room and red room. We had the whole place to ourselves on a Monday night. It was truly wonderful and I would definitely come back again. The house cleaner let us peek into the bunkroom, which was also a really interesting space with some of the nicest looking bunk beds I've seen. I am hoping I can come stay there again with some friends one weekend some time. Breakfast was perfect -- granola and yogurt with delicious strawberries. We rented the Tollhouse for two joyous nights of cooking, playing games, relaxing, and spending quality time with our parents and friends visiting from Denmark + NYC. Everyone loved it. The home and the property are beautiful and designed with care. From the high quality linens to the relaxing details like bath salts or cozy bathrobes... they thought of it all. It was my 2nd time at the Tollhouse and we will certainly be back. It's near Boonville where you can enjoy delicious wine, Anderson Valley Brewing Beer, organic apples and beyond. The drive from the Bay Area to the property is stunning as you head to the house. I can't recommend the property enough for large group retreats, small getaways, celebrations, etc. read more

We had a great pre-baby getaway at the Toll House Inn. The inn itself is adorable, very conducive to relaxing and reconnecting. Looking up at the sky at night you will see approximately a billion stars. The breakfasts are not to be missed! The scones were certainly the best I have ever had. The innkeepers are very nice folks who tried to help us find the Giants game somewhere within a 30 mile radius. Sadly, we did not. I would recommend it highly to anyone seeking a quiet, relaxing get away. read more

Perfect! Such a goregous place. We rented the Toll House and Bunk Room for two nights to celebrate a joint birthday. The space is big enough that is can hold a crowd comfortably and everyone can wander in their own direction on the beautiful property or conveyne in the kitchen or on the deck. You can tell a lot of care and thought have gone into the house, design an property. We also did quite a bit of cooking and the kitchen is very well stocked and has all the amenities we needed, including two full outdoor grills. I will definately be returning... The Toll House Inn has been lovingly restored, decorated and furnished with elements of the highest quality from start to finish. We loved the sunwashed colors and the natural fabrics, which breathe warmth into an already delightful space. There's a garden for the kids to play in and a wonderful sense of spaciousness all around. As others have said, the hosts are exceptionally accommodating and the breakfast scones and Peets' coffee hit the palate for just the right start to the day. Something no one else has yet reviewed, and it's my pet peeve about B&Bs in general, is...Why do guests so often have to put up with lousy, poor quality mattresses? Not so at the Toll House Inn! The mattresses here (like everything else) are top notch: Bay Area residents will recognize the organic and eco-friendly Keetsa mattresses as super supple and sooo comfy. This Inn is so cute. My mother, sister and I stayed there (in the Green Room). It was very comfortable for three. My mother and my sister both said they could hear road noise at night (since the room is at the front of the house) but I can't comment - I slept like a rock. There is great walking/hiking around the inn with climbs and gorgeous views. My only regret was that we weren't staying longer, I would have loved to have stayed and relaxed in the sprawling back yard and walked the property. Perks: 1 - Tasty complimentary breakfast with yogurt, granola, fresh berries, local coffee and the best scones from a bakery in town. 2 - Great nature surrounding the inn. 3 - Newly renovated in the good way. 4 - A bottle of wine at check in was a very nice touch. 5 - There is a great car service in town that will take you to all of the wineries for $60 an hour - Vintage Vine Tours (they were easy going and very knowledgeable). read more

The Toll House Inn is simply wonderful. Our party of 7 (4 adults and 3 teens) stayed here in November in the Barn Rooms. They have recently renovated this lovely space and it shows in all of the fine attention to detail. The delicious breakfast, fruit, and bottle of wine that were left for us was such a nice touch and very much appreciated. We took a great hike up to the swimming pond and several walks around the property - it was beautiful, even in the rain. We made several excursions from the property during our 3 night stay - Vichy Springs for a hot soak in the their natural springs, Hendy Redwoods, Roederer for sparkling wine tasting, and Mendocino (a beautiful drive along 128). Everyone had an amazing time and we plan to make our stay here a yearly tradition. Highly recommended! read more

Pretty B&B with simple stylish decor. Clean and comfortable. We came to the B&B as a weekend destination. Although the place is nice...the B&B seems to be geared as a transition/stop over. Staff was cordial. It is billed as a dog friendly place, but there are two other resident dogs. Because of their alpha nature and the guest dog is restricted only to the room, it may not be as dog friendly, depending on your dog's disposition. read more

The Toll House in Boonville is a great place to stay for 2-3 couples. The restoration has been completed and it is very nice. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The living room is lovely with a wonderful fireplace. I would not recommend for children as there are no TV's etc. The kitchen is great but keep in mind that other than a light breakfast (with exceptional scones) you are on your own. We BBQ'd rib-eyes one evening and it was exceptional. read more

We just spent last weekend at the Toll House for my husbands birthday/skydiving adventure getaway. Everything about our stay was first rate: the grounds are beautiful: full of quail, long walking trails, and field birds. The house itself is done impeccably and yet not at all pretentiously. If you are a fan of drafty and doily-filled B&B's as is often the case, then the Toll House is not for you. Somehow the owners have married modern and sleek finishes ( think Jeff Lewis) with ultra comfort and an enveloping and warm ambiance( think pillow top mattress and an unbelievable soak in the tub.) We even loved the fixture over the dining room table so much that we bought the same one for our house at the Farmhouse Mercantile in town. Sleep with your windows open, the only sound is the occasional passing car, but the bed is so comfy I heard a mere few before i passed into a deep sleep. Delicious and fresh-baked scones in the morning with granola and fresh fruit are a wonderful touch as is the complimentary wine and water in the fridge when you arrive. We were one of only 2 couples staying at the Inn on our weekend and spent most the afternoons alone downstairs playing their game of Scrabble and listening to music as it rained outside. We cannot recommend this place more and are very much looking forward to our next stay. So excited we found this gem! ***forgot to mention: you absolutely MUST eat at the Boonville Hotel for dinner Table 128 or something like that. 4 courses of divinity for 2 for under $150. The Toll House Inn in Boonville was the perfect place to stay while visiting Anderson Valley. We could only stay one night, and the innkeepers were flexible with our last minute reservation. The inn is beautifully decorated, not fussy like many B&Bs, with a homey and welcoming feel. The scones really are crazy good and with the coffee and fresh fruit made for yummy way to start the day (but also allowed for us to actually be hungry for lunch and get to sample some more of the local food). We definitely want to return to the Toll House Inn someday for another relaxing visit. read more
