The owner of this property is run by greed. I paid $900 for a room for a 3 night retreat that was starting as the snow was building momentum. Understandably, this center is not built to operate in snow and freezing cold. Instead of canceling and refunding us, they gave the okay for all of us to come. It was miserably cold as they were without power and the generator kept failing. Even with the generator, the heat was minimal and the cook for the retreat was forced to use the outdoor kitchen without heat. Less than 24 hours later, I had to leave due to the medical impact of the cold, and I lost $900. They knew about the weather at their altitude and the limitations of the their facility but still decided to run the "retreat."

The pond required a small trek and was so worth it.

In July 2021 I hosted a writing retreat in the Barn at Bell Valley retreat. The rooms and facilities were amazing - we had all the necessities plus the little extras that made us feel pampered. Things like extra throw blankets, a jar of earplugs (in case you room with a loud sleeper), and a wonderful style/aesthetic throughout up-leveled the experience of our retreat. The entire property is well-maintained while still being natural. Trails were well-marked, outside benches and chairs and sofas were dust-free and inviting, lavender bushes kept the bees humming and every morning there was a flock of baby quails than ran across the yard. The entire place is straight out of a fairytale. There's even a giant Madrone tree that provides shade for amphitheater-style seating where we held writing salons. The site manager - Kendra, and the facilities manager - Sara, were super helpful in orienting us to the property. And they were genuinely kind in all communications and follow up. I can't say enough.

A magical spot for "glamping," events and retreats. We just stayed for two nights in two of the tents, where every detail was thought of. From heated mattress pads on high quality mattress, to eco-friendly soap and shampoo in the spotless bathhouse, to tasteful and simple design of the kitchen, yurt and bathhouse... our visit was perfect. Don't forget to bring cooking supplies - it's quite a distance to the market! This is a beautiful property and has it all - comfort, views, hikes, amenities. We can't wait to go back!

The Toll House Inn is the perfect weekend escape from San Francisco. Located just a few hours away, it and the adorable town of Boonville transports you to a simpler time. A quiet atmosphere with no TV, but great wine and beer, leaves plenty of time for clearing you mind, playing card games and just talking with whomever you bring along with you for the adventure. The inn is beautiful, with architecture and elegant farmhouse decor that I can only dream my future home will emulate, and is complete with a spacious deck and backyard. The inn keepers are very respectful, responsive and helpful. They even upgraded us to the suite because it was available. I suggest checking out the local breweries while you're in town. The inn is a short drive away from Anderson Valley Brewing Company, and about 20 miles away from Mendocino Brewing Company. Hit up Ukiah Brewing Company, North Coast Brewing Company, and Bear Republic on your way back to SF. I also highly recommend grabbing dinner in downtown Boonville at Lauren's. We'll definitely be staying at the Toll House Inn again.

We fell in love with The Toll House! The decor and garden were very charming. We stayed at the Bunkhouse for a weekend, and both the kids and adults enjoyed the bunk beds. It had a kitchen and all the amenities we needed. Also the owners were thoughtful to provide us with milk, granola, coffee, fruits, and a bottle of wine. Our favorite were the outdoor showers. There are trails for short hikes, and a lovely pond was a nice surprise. We highly recommend staying here, and we will be back.

There are two masses weekly: St Aloysius in Pt Arena has a Sunday 9am service and The Blessed Sacrament in Elk has a Saturday 4pm mass. As we were leaving Sunday morning it had to be the Saturday service. We had attended this church years ago so it brought back many memories. This parish has a small, devoted congregation that creates a warm, caring atmosphere. It was a wonderful mass, a unique experience for city dwellers used to churches many times the size. Small is definitely beautiful in this case. After mass was done, a local gentleman kindly asked us if we would be interested in seeing the rectory, an adjunct to the church where visiting priests can stay while in the area. We gladly accepted the offer. First he showed us changes in the church since we were last there, improvements made while maintaining its traditional look. Then we were led through a surprisingly large rectory, with many rooms and gorgeous views looking directly down on the ocean front. He proudly went over the numerous upgrades they had made over the years - it was beautiful without losing any of the historic touches. This church has a marvelous history and it is meticulously documented on the church website. Historic photos, a narrative history, and pastors through the years are here. The inside of the chapel was timeless and beautiful. It is a lot roomier than I expected inside. The chapel pretty much comes with everything you will need, including the stereo system and a changing room for the bride. We didn't even decorate the chapel because it was pretty enough the way it was. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a venue in Solano County. The history of the chapel is amazing, and the people who work here clearly adore and care for the chapel. Side note to citizens not involved in the wedding ceremony, please take couple pictures somewhere else when you obviously see a photographer trying to get photos of the bride and her party! I had shots be completely ruined or have to be heavily edited due to activity from unknown parties taking their own random photos in the background of the chapel. We had the chapel reserved at this time, and it really did stress out the bride as well. I did my best to avoid them, but still, common courtesy says this is a once in a lifetime event and please be respectful of that!

So many vintage details, and it had a very comfortable bed. Definitely odd to take a bath/shower right in the same room, but it was very relaxing. I definitely recommend going up all the flights of stairs to the top of the water tower if you're able to! It's the tallest building in the area, so you have a real clear view of the whole Fort Bragg area. One thing to note: I didn't feel completely confident in how the keypad door lock worked and had to try it multiple times. I arrived really late, otherwise I would've found someone to help. Some clearer directions would've helped. I had to head out the next day, but wish I could've had more time to enjoy the yard and explore the main house of the property. But one plus is that they did accommodate complimentary late check-out when I asked in the morning, so I definitely appreciated that. I hope to return soon!

While I loved the website and the vibe, I wasn't sure if I should book right away because it was a bit of a budget stretch on my end. After mulling it over a bit and calling the hosts to discuss their homemade breakfasts, I felt like I could not deny that it was a match, especially with my partner being a person interested in culinary delights as such-- I then booked an early spring weekend at Stoney Bottom. Everything about Stoney Bottom is both meticulously cared for, planned, and attended to, while at the same time peaceful, low key, and truly elegant.
