Found sign of autumn here early October. My favorite season

Free wifi! Outdoor plaza but they have free WiFi available. I sat at one of their colorful chairs and did nothing for about hour here. They had some sort of hula hoop event going and watched them as I enjoyed red, orange and yellow leaves and the last bit of warm sun before the winter season. People bring their dogs, lots of family just relaxing on the grassy area, clean and free washrooms available, really nice place to come in the afternoon to relax. Plenty of shops and restaurants available nearby, with gorgeous Mountain View's, enjoy your relaxing afternoon here

I am probably a little biased with this review and looking at Whistler with rose coloured (or should I say patriotically red) glasses. Name me a Canadian who doesn't remember the moment they're screaming at a TV during the OT gold medal hockey game. Thinking of Vancouver 2010 makes me stand a little taller... which says a lot since I'm a shorty. This is just a wonderful spot to take in regardless of the season. Open and free to all, you get to see ground zero of all the cheers for the gold medal winner runs. Years later, its is a great centre for all of Whistler. It merges the hotels, open community spaces, play areas, retail, and food all seamlessly. It never once obnoxiously cover or plaster a brand name in front of the incredible mountain views or makes it feel like it sold out the natural bounty for a few bucks. The area feels like an actual village with the Olympic area being the town square for celebrations and community events. It is so well done with the cute modern cabin and wood design notes everywhere. I had to keep my hands down every time I spied an interesting architecture note cause I would have spent too much time snapping a pic. And of course, it has your MANY selfie opportunities with the larger-than-life Olympic Rings. I did do one... but I think that's mandatory. I did go in the 'off season' in the early summer but I was told Whistler doesnt really have an off season as the mountain is well known for having the world's best mountain biking trails. During the week, it wasn't crazy busy ... I never saw line ups more than 3 people long and parking was easily available in the morning. The afternoon was a different story. I cannot imagine what this must be like during the weekend in the heart of winter. Retail and food offerings is interesting... You have your typical Subway, Gap, Billabong, Starbucks, and Keg brands but I do implore you to support the really good local independent stores. Love baked goods? ... definitely Purebread. Need a caffeine kick? ... Moguls. Want to look good in Spandex? ... tons of options but Lululemon is there (think that is Canadian still). Want to bring back a nice piece as a gift? .... look at the Gems Canada for Ammolite (semi precious fossilized opal-like gem only found in Canada). Lots more options to explore and fairly impressive for a small area. I have to say that there's a lot that isn't unreasonably priced especially for a tourist attraction. If I think about Whistler and the Olympic plaza, I wouldn't call this a tourist trap. Sure, tourists come here from all around the world but I feel the experience is respectful of what nature has to offer. Besides, there are few spots for me in Canada that carry that happy gravitas when you visit. Whistler Olympic Plaza, with it's majestic mountain ranges, gives you that moment. I know as a Canadian we're a polite humble bunch but I admit that I did fan girl here and probably would have ran around with a Canadian flag while admiring all the Olympic plaza.

We took a day trip to Whistler. Pretty cool to see the Olympic Rings. They had a playground for kids, which was nice for families. My mom and I didn't stay too long in the Plaza itself. They had lots of cute restaurants and shops. We spent most of our time in the main market area.

While planning to come here I really had no agenda but to cure my curiosity and to look at the beautiful scenery that surrounds this place. I think I accomplished that and more, we spent a few hours walking the market area and just enjoying the beautiful weather that early September provided. I think the drive up was as gratifying as the time we spent exploring this beautiful property. This time of the year we were lucky to find less crowds and parking was not an issues which was a big surprise. The shops and restaurants are laid out in a way that allows you to see pretty much everything without a lot of back tracking, but honestly it wouldn't of mattered it's a great place to get those extra steps in everyone benefits from and I don't think you could find a more beautiful backdrop or a more level elevation to walk for hundreds of kilometers. This was certainly an enjoyable part of our vacation in the northwest and if your having a difficult time deciding if it's worth the drive - I believe it is...

    Marketplace is close.

2010 Winter Olympics were held in Whistler, British Columbia Canada. The Olympic Rings are there for those special photo opps and selfies. When we visited folks were hanging out socializing at tables. Do not know if it is really part of the Olympic Plaza or not. There is also a marketplace with shops and restaurants in the area. Pretty place to visit, and it not too far from Vancouver.

This is a lovely place to walk and can be enjoyed in every seasons. There is a great playground nearby the Olympic sign and many great stores including Canadian, European and US brands such as Lululemon, Roots, Peak Performance, Helly Hansens, Patagonia, etc. Many coffee shops and good restaurants. This village is just lovely for two thumbs up and 5 stars!

OK, this is a pretty great public space. It's not like Kensington Gardens or anything, but for the amount of space they have, they've made it really nice. The location is very convenient right on the main stroll near the end, before the Marketplace shopping area. This is the site of the 2010 Olympic medal ceremonies in Whistler. You can, and almost everyone does, get a selfie taken in front of the Olympic Rings. In the winter they also have an ice rink for people who like to skate outdoors. If we don't have any snow in town, they make snow hills for the children. (I have very mixed feelings about the use of these higher temperature snowmakers for non-snow sports, but that's me.) In the summer and fall they have a fair number of free concerts here. Some of them are really good. The groups that came and played before going to Pemberton Music Festival stick out in my mind. In any case, like I said, it's FREE, and it's hard to beat that. When there is no concert, people relax on the lawn. There are better places to go I'm sure, but it's nice for visitors or people eating lunch. They also have a nice year-round playground nearby. In the fall, this has been the site of beer festival as well. Overall, It's just a great multi-use park. It does really have a great mountain view too. So even if there are many more beautiful places to go, it would be hard to say there is anywhere more conveniently located than the Whistler Olympic Plaza.

Yes watch out for the bears but keep an eye out for bear poop! You're more likely to step in it…read morethan run into them! Seriously the bears come down here to $hit on the roads and valley trail, its like a toilet for them. I don't blame the bears, we built up a recreational park in their back yard so its only fair they get back at us with that. Alpha Lake Park has its amazing moments during spring and summer but mother nature does need to get a grip on her meds to keep her mood swings in check. One day its cold and rainy then it will be that way for a week and all of a sudden it'll be sunny and humid, then switch again. So if you're planning a trip up here, look up the weather forecast. Its no fun being here in the rain, it gets swampy and buggy. We love this park for the enclosed off leash dog park with a separate deck/dock that extends out into the lake for your fur baby to jump in. We have been told that it's ok to go into. I personally would not go into that water. It is shallow and you can see all types of green algae slimy nastiness in there. The park provides free bio degradable dog bags for poop, so there is no excuse not to pick up after your pet and the municipality collects that stuff in bins for compost. This is a nice place to spend the afternoon, if you have kids, there is a playground, awesomely placed picnic tables and benches for great views of the mountains while you picnic, and this park connects to Pine Point Park which you'll see across the lake next to the private bridge that connects to the lake island. Be careful if you go out that way, the train runs in the afternoon around 4:30pm ish and the tracks are in that area. We come here a lot for the tennis courts which are typically busy, but take a walk around if they are, people here are very nice about not hogging the courts and sharing. #WhistlerWonderland #Whislife #ExploreBC

Damn you bear, I didn't need to see that.' The warnings of Alpha Lake Park being bear territories are very real. I encountered one teenage bear just walking 3 meters from me before turning his (or her) butt towards me and well... now I can answer the meme if a bear $#its in the woods. Yes... yes they do... a lot... and no I dont want to see that again ever. There isn't enough eye bleach in the world for that. So special thanks to Berneta, my fav BC yelper, I am forever in your debt now that I saw bears ... crap all over the streets. Aside from that blah, Alpha Lake is a picturesque and serene lake side park that has of clear paths from the nearby resort housing to the waters edge. It's so well maintained with all paths nicely cleared and paved for you to easily run (from bears), bike (from bears), or walk slowly to see the cute little family of ducks on sunning on a log. The lake itself is kinda gross as you get further from the little beach area ... it looks like to be stagnant sitting water but it is incredibly still. This makes it the most wonderful mirror to the trees, hills, and stupidly amazing house that sits on an island in the middle of it. Aside from the short walk around the lake, you'll find a well fenced and clean dog area that goes to the lake shore. A nice tennis court and basketball half court. A good clear area where a lot of the locals were just sitting and sunning themselves in the sun on a lazy Monday afternoon. There's also a really big playground with a cool looking modern art-esque play castle (Toronto ones look so utilitarian compared to this one). This place is just so chill as everyone sat nearby the water. I felt this place was much more relaxed than the Rainbow Lake but also much more cozy. It isn't a big spot but just a good place for a nice easy day in the sun. Just keep your eyes out for bears and their crap. You never know when they show up. *gags*

You start by waiting in line to purchase tickets to slide down. The is the first line, and depending on what time of day and how busy it is, I can take 20-minutes or so to purchase your tickets. Once you get your tickets, then you have to get in line to get a tube. So, it depends if someone sliding down has used up all their time, to determine if they'll return their tube back to the line. More on this below. Waiting the line to get a tube can take another 20-minutes or so. Once you get a tube, you can drag it up the hill to the line to slide down. At the base of the hill, their are attendants that write the time on your ticket. And, basically you have 60 minutes to slide once you've started. There's a conveyor that takes you up to the top and it actually goes kind of quickly once you've made it to that line. The sliding down is fun, and if you're with kids, they will love it. Now you know how it works, you'll have to decide if you want to endure the line, but it was kind of tolerable. Although I'd probably not do it again, now that I have. If you're not skiing, this is a good thing to do to experience the gondola ride up and the mountain. Also there's a tobogganing option in Olympic Park where they did the x-country skiing and stuff for the Winter Olympics. That is cheaper, less daring and about 20-minute drive from the Village.

I'm sure this has a lot to do with timing, but we spent a lot of the time waiting. They wouldn't let you go until the previous person was completely out of the course, and while I understand they are trying to keep things safe, it just added up to a lot of waiting in line. If I had kids or something, who couldn't ski or snowboard, I'd see coming here would make sense. Would I go for my own pleasure again? Nah I'll stick to snowboarding.

Alexander Falls is an under the radar waterfall situated just off Sea to Sky Highway, located about…read more24 kilometers east of Whistler, British Columbia. I liked the view and perspective of Alexander Falls. In fact, this whole section within the great outdoors of BC, Canada boasts some frequent and picturesque looking waterfalls. I combined this Alexander Falls with a bunch of other waterfalls including... - Nairn Falls. - Rainbow falls. - Brandywine Falls. - Shannon Falls. As long as you're driving Sea to Sky Highway...you should bump into all these natural wonders without having to venture too far off the beaten path. At the most...you may have to hike 1 kilometer or so at a few of the waterfalls. For myself, I decided to make my journey along Sea to Sky Highway a "waterfall themed" adventure trying to capture as many falls as I could within my travels. In my opinion, it's just fun to view waterfall, after waterfall, after waterfall, lol. Even if they're not so spectacular or epic looking, I think getting out into nature and admiring them from afar puts people in a good mood, like for me, it felt like I was allocating my time appropriately during my explorations eventually down to Vancouver. But for this Alexander Falls, you make a turn onto Callaghan Road, just off Sea to Sky Highway and...before arriving, you make one last left hand turn into the Alexander Falls Parking Lot. This last bit of road was extremely bumpy, filled with massive potholes. I arrived in late September on a Saturday at about 9am and was the only person here. After exiting my car, Alexander Falls was already in full view. It was that easy. I did look for hiking trails to possibly get a closer angle of the waterfall but there were clear signs warning visitors that walking past the viewing platform could be unpredictable and unstable. It was highly suggested to hang out by the overlook. So...the vista point view you get of Alexander Falls is pretty much undisturbed. If I had to describe anything in the moment, I'd say I was standing a little too far away. It would have been nicer to be positioned closer. Regardless, I still had ample time to appreciate the setting without strangers getting in the way, lol. Some facts about Alexander Falls according to Wikipedia... "Alexander Falls is a waterfall in the Callaghan Valley area of the Sea to Sky Country of southwestern British Columbia, Canada. The falls are located just below a bridge on the access road to Callaghan Lake Provincial Park, at the head of the valley, which lies to the west of the resort town of Whistler. The falls consist of three drops that total up to 141 feet (43 m) in total. The falls are about 40 feet (12 m) wide". I only needed about 20 minutes to get in some photos before feeling content and moving on. In total, I enjoyed Alexander Falls' appearance, especially since Nairn Falls and Rainbow Falls were relatively disappointing prior to stopping here. And after Alexander Falls, 13 kilometers south is the best of em all and that being...Brandywine Falls! So, for those trying to check off as many waterfalls as possible in this part of Sea to Sky Highway, I'd put Alexander Falls in the middle-to-upper echelon in terms of worthwhileness. I think you'll be pleasantly satisfied with your visit.

The drive from sea to sky on Callaghan Road is around 15 minutes however it is known as the best unofficial place to see bears in Whistler. The road was paved for the 2010 olympics and grass was planted on either side that apparently grows clover (which bears love). So be careful out there and whatever you do don't get out of the car if you see one. If you visit Alexander falls in spring there is still 3-4 feet of snow on the ground so snow boots or snowshoes will help you get to the lookout. But once you get there because you're standing on 3-4 feet of ice you're above the railing of the lookout so you'll get great shots! (Just be careful to not fall over) This is another example of why Whistler is one of the most beautiful places in BC to visit. Towards the end of spring the tap to the waterfall is turned on full blast because of melting ice and snow so it's a really pretty show and you'll also get to see the rainbow effect on clear days like at Brandywine falls. There really is no hike here only an easy five minute stroll from your car to the look out and picnic tables to munch on grub. There are bathrooms here but I'd hold it until you get to a real one because these are outhouse styled. This is definitely one of mother nature's creations that you shouldn't miss if you visit Whistler. #WhistlerWonderland
