Beautiful Victorian house nestled in Stanhope NJ. Every room is uniquely designed The Inn Keeper was lovely ans attentive at all times. She gets up at the Crack of dawn to start her baking and preparing breakfast order. She was kind and prepared scones for a trip back to Florida as we were leaving before breakfast was served. Even wanted to fix us sandwiches. There are common areas with games and a kitchen area with snacks coffee tea and soft drinks. Will definitely return. read more

I was in the area for business and looked forward to my first experience with a B&B. The self check-in is easy, their communication is good and thorough and the property is a lovely, classic Victorian with comfy, well-appointed rooms. It's in a neighborhood, so it's quiet. I was only there briefly, so got to enjoy only one breakfast, but it was nice. The proprietors are accommodating and interested in your stay being everything you need it to be. Staying here was a delight from beginning to end. The breakfasts and afternoon snacks are creative, fresh, and tasty. Many of the the best dishes I learned afterwards were gluten free - it wasn't obvious from the taste. Audry makes her own yogurt and ricotta cheese. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds are so comfortable that I went to sleep hours earlier than usual. The wrap around porch and grounds have spaces for socializing or quiet reading. I booked a one night stay on a week day for my wife's birthday and a dinner out. Well the place is quite nice facility wise. The bikes advertised for use where ok but there was no seat adjustments without a wrench. At the time of booking I was asked if it was a special occasion and I said it was a birthday. No acknowledgement of such happened. The room was nice although the poster bed posts blocked the tv view. The breakfast was ok but not good. It is a bed and BREAKFAST. read more

My wife and I have been coming here for years. However, we will not be returning anymore. The new owners have seemed to neglect the place and not maintain it properly. The exterior is falling apart and looks very dilapidated and uncared for. The interior isn't much better. Our room was dirty and dusty. The doorknob for the bathroom wouldn't stay on the door. There were no window shades. The TV was so tiny. We couldn't stand in our room due to the peak of the house. When I looked online it did not represent the room we actually got. Basically we couldn't move in our room. The hallway rugs were dirty as well. We were provided with a tiny shampoo and conditioner tube which was not nearly enough for 2 people and the bar of soap was minuscule. We were extremely disappointed with the accommodations, especially after raving about it in years past. Next time we return to Stanhope, we will be staying somewhere else for sure. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for a long weekend. It was nice! We actually spent most of the day in Sparta which I definitely recommend. Such a cute town on the lake. As for the B&B, the owner was nice enough. I'm sure she had her rules to keep herself from getting walked over by guests but it kind of came off like she was bothered by us being there. What was advertised wasn't really what was there. The "gourmet" breakfast was eh, definitely good but nothing gourmet about it. They say there are cookies and snacks and it was the same brownies there all weekend and small bags of chips. There was a water dispenser and the cups were small bathroom cups. It was way overpriced for what you got. Our room didn't even lock. It sounds like I'm really crapping on this place but it was definitely a fun weekend. I don't think we'd head back anytime soon tho read more

I definitely recommend staying at this BnB. The rooms are beautiful and very well-kept. They have a huge selection of DVDs and VHSs to borrow, complimentary soft drinks and homemade cookies, bikes, and breakfast. The breakfast consisted of toast, eggs, waffles, fruit, juice, and cereals. While the breakfast could have been a little better, everything else made up for it. The keepers (Liz and Bill) were so nice and helpful with finding places and things to do/ visit. Definitely walk to Bell's Mansion for dinner. read more

I stayed in the Walnut Suite the photo is posted, really comfortable, This is an Inn with a heart it is not a cookie cutter and reflects the love the inn keeper puts into her job. The place was immaculate, I mean super clean. It is Victorian is style and super cozy and welcoming. There are fresh baked treats out in the parlor for the taking, hot tea and coffee always and sherry in the afternoon, along with potato chips and other snacks. I couldn't believe it - My husband and I dined here tonight. We paid $125 for dinner. We asked for one simple thing - one request - more bread. The waitress said she'd check to see if she could "score some" for me and came back with ONE piece. Just ONE piece - for only me. My husband's mouth dropped. How much does it cost to serve us TWO or even FOUR more pieces of bread?? Twenty cents? A dollar? Listen... keep your "snacks". The cold curry shot glass of "soup" wasn't very good and we didn't order it. I did, however, ask for more bread... and I was insulted. You are in the service industry. When a customer takes time and energy to express a wish, your mission should be to go above and beyond to fulfill it. That is how you delight customers. read more

Lovely Inn in a quaint NJ city close to many outdoor activities, shopping and dining options. I stayed in the Walnut Suite and enjoyed all the amenities offered, from the complementary snack/drink bar in the common area to the gas fireplace and the jacuzzi in the room. The Walnut room is both cosy and spacious and takes up a whole corner of the 1st floor so it's very tranquil and calm. I loved all the windows facing various yards and gardens. Breakfast was yummy with homemade pumpkin baked french toast and eggs benedict as well as an assortment of fresh breads, fruits, cereals, juice and yogurt. You can also enjoy breakfast on the patio is the weather permits it. Free wifi and nice DVD selection to watch in your rooms. 2 small cons: I wish the Inn provided menus and suggestions for food delivery to the Inn (we ended up ordering a good pizza), and the two bathrooms in our room were missing handsoap (other toiletries samples were provided, including wonderful bath salts to put in the jacuzzi). So this was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast.. so my experience may differ from others and opinions because I have no other comparisons. Any way if your are looking for a peaceful and relaxing place to stay over night , this is the place. My husband and I spent 2 nights. We had the walnut suite. It had 2 bathrooms.. Bonus! A Jacuzzi tub, fireplace and huge king size bed. Pics to follow . The rocking chairs in the room were so comfy and relaxing and the t.v. turned so we watched tv in bed ! The outside garden is beautiful and peaceful! Bring your camera .. they also have coi fish.. the bed was super comfortable and clean. The breakfast part was tasty . I was nervous about this part. Eating breakfast with strangers..but everyone is doing the same thing.. so relaxing! One day the owner made homemade pancakes, egg baked dish.. both were yummy! And there a was also hash browns and bacon. They also had fresh fruit and cereals and bread to toast . But I was there for the homeade food . The second morning she made eggs Florentine , bread pudding, homefries with sweet potatoes and a savory biscuit. I also had the granola with milk. I enjoyed our visit . My husband and I sat out on the front porch and drank coffee and tea which is available all day. I have 2 kids it was nice to get away from noise and have someone take care of me!!! read more

While some bed & breakfasts insist you cannot stay at their inn if you do not stay for a Friday and Saturday night, we were glad to find this Stanhope, NJ bed & breakfast off Route 80. When you enter the inn, you know you're walking into good hands. You're immediately bathed in charming ambiance. It's well decorated and they offer a wonderful selection of yummies in their dining area: brownies, cookies, bags of chips and pretzels in a basket, ice machine under the counter, 24 hour tea and coffee, cans of Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite in the frig, after-dinner sherry (which was delightful). We had the Tranquility Room on the third floor. Being over 6 feet tall, I had to mind the sloping headroom. The room was nicely decorated...loved the Tiffany floor lamp. The bathroom was spacious and having a selection of DVDs to choose from downstairs and having the luxury of watching a movie in our room made it very relaxing for us. Breakfast was served between 8:30 - 10:00. We knew we were staying at a B&B that was attentive to details. I suppose Breakfast was a little of a letdown. We were expecting choices galore. I was actually surprised they didn't have bagels available in their porcelain bread basket. They could improve in the area . Breakfast was good except for the orange juice that tasted like it was from frozen concentrate and the coffee that seemed a tad weak. I would have given this inn five stars if there was a belgian-waffle machine to make your own waffles (like at a Marriott Residence Inn), pancakes, eggs in other forms other than their squares of omelets, and yogurt to mix in with their granola. Other than this, we got what we wanted: a quiet, relaxing time away from our young children. As the staff suggested, we will be back when it's warmer some day to take advantage of the outdoor activities in the vicinity. read more

I stayed here with my fiancé for a little weekend getaway as his anniversary present to me. We stayed in the tranquility room and he ordered a little basket of cheeses, pita chips with a bottle of wine. The selection of cheeses was nice but the hummus that was added in expired a month before so I put it aside. Although we were a little disappointed with the size of the room it was still cute with its small electric fireplace and little reading area by the window. I did find that the slanted ceiling was a bit awkward especially for my 6'2 fiancé. The bed was comfortable but nothing extraordinary. When we came down for breakfast we had a buffet style meal that included an additional dish that was made to order by the innkeeper -- eggs benedict. It was delicious and filling. We also went inside the Parlour which offered complimentary sherry, coffees, teas, water, soda, snacks and baked goods. They were excellent with replenishing everything throughout the day. Fair warning, if you're above six foot and stay in the Lenape room on the third floor, there is a really significant possibility of you hitting your head on the ceiling. I, sadly enough, fell victim four times over our three night stay, although no concussions to report (I think). Aside from that, there is little to complain about the Whistling Swan Inn. The grounds are very well kept and romantic, especially at night. If you do visit with a special someone, be sure to venture out to the pagoda at night to take in the ambience. The neighborhood is residential and very quiet. The Inn is within driving distance to Lake Hopatcong, which is in itself a very nice getaway. Additionally, antique shops abound if you're so inclined to go find some old treasures. In terms of cuisine, the Inn offers a buffet style country breakfast, which usually consisted of eggs, bacon/ham, some sort of quiche and eggs hollandaise/pancakes. Along with those options, you can choose from commercial cereals, juices, yogurts and teas. Although not my favorite B&B breakfast, it was a nice way to start off the day. Another interesting note, the Inn has a decent collection of DVDs that you can watch in your room on the player installed on your TV. It was nice to come back from a long day of touristing and being able to kick back with a movie. read more

My husband and I wanted a small wedding so we got married at the Whistling Swan Inn May 2018. We decided every year on our anniversary we would come back here for a weekend getaway together. We came back here this year for our one year anniversary and were blown away once again! There were rose petals, amazing conversations at breakfast with the innkeeper (Ros and Tom), and unbelievable places to visit around the town. We came for one night in August and were only upset that we couldn't stay longer. Beautiful B&B with so many antiques throughout. We stayed in the Great Meadows room and couldn't have been happier. Spacious with a very comfortable bed, the room was perfect. Peaking around at others, it seemed there was no bad choice. I believe all have private bathrooms. The wrap-around porch was so inviting and the grounds were beautiful. Ron and Tom were excellent hosts; they will have a conversation if the guests choose to. Went here for a very quick getaway just one night, wish we could have stayed longer. First impression was inn was nice and clean! I love B&B's! Inn keeper was nice and engaging with conversation. We asked for recommendations for lunch she sent us to Polo's a sports bar, not quite what we were looking for but the food was really good! Had a massage scheduled with Yvette who did a great job and was super sweet! I'm 7 months pregnant so it was a prenatal and Yvette made me lactation cookies! Dinner we went to Bell's mansion which was great as well. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was nice, bathrobes nice as well. Water pressure was great in the shower. Breakfast was good as well. It was little egg and peppers quiches. Sausage and made to order waffles. Refreshments were great and plentiful as well. I have been meaning to write this review for a few years when I last stayed at the Whistling Swan Inn...that is because this place left an indelibly good and lasting impression on me. I have traveled around the world so I know what excellent accommodations and service are all about. The owner and her husband could not be more welcoming, kind and helpful. I felt like I was so at home in their Inn! The homemade breakfast was incredible. The room was very comfortable and beautiful. I grew up in Sussex County where this Inn is located, but have now lived in CA for over 30 years so I felt the warm northern NJ hospitality and want others to experience the same. I would proudly recommend the Whistling Swann Inn to all of my friends and family. The next trip back to Byram Township will be here. I give this a 20 Star rating!! read more

My wife and I decided to stay here for our first anniversary. GREAT choice. So quiet and relaxing. The rooms are very nice, and had Jacuzzi tubs that could ACTUALLY accommodate 2 people comfortably. We have been coming here for a few years now and I have to say it's my favorite B&B. It's part of the select registry so it's held to a very high standard. Our stay at the Whistling Swan B & B was restful. As an antique collector, I fully appreciate the mix of period pieces and modern conveniences. To stay here in warmer weather and enjoy breakfast on the porch and linger in the garden would be two good reasons to return. The Whistling Swan Inn is simply wonderful. The warm folks who run it do so with love and a sense of how to truly take care of people without invading their space. There are so many lovely touches... from the "free snacks and drinks" (which we didn't even take but I felt grateful to have in case we needed them), to the full breakfast, to the option to eat out breakfast on the lovely front porch. So often bed and breakfasts miss the mark in one area.... too small a breakfast, too stuffy, etc. but I absolutely thought they hit it on the head at The Whistling Swan. I should also mention that it was my birthday and the team even had a personalized, beautiful cake waiting in the room alongside a bottle of champagne upon my arrival (this was ordered at extra cost of course, but it was charming). My boyfriend and I had a fantastic birthday weekend, and we left relaxed. If you explore a little you'll find kind people, beautiful sites and you'll feel like you've gone back many years to a time when life was simpler and people were more gracious. My husband and I really enjoyed the two nights that we spent here just after our wedding. The building was beautiful, and our room was spacious, private, and had an enormous bathtub which was exactly what we needed after such a non-stop week. Somehow it felt like a big house that we had all to ourselves, with a common kitchen area downstairs, gracious living room, and a pretty good movie collection that guests borrow from. We enjoyed the breakfast in the morning (though I wish there were more vegan options!) It was such a treat to stay at this gorgeous bed and breakfast, and I would definitely recommend it. read more
