I had the lamb, well just come try for yourself, I left smiling :) One thing that needs a special mention; We have been to many pubs in and around London (where we live) every Sunday trying a new place for the books and I have to say (including my mother who is from Yorkshire) that the chef makes the best Yorkshire puddings we have EVER come across. They are just the right consistency, not too heavy or dough like, not too dry and crispy but just right...light and fluffy with enough spongy volume to almost classify and the perfect Yorkshire pudding. Lady's and Gentlemen, if Yorkie's are your thing - this is the place! The sweet potato fries are a great side, the cauliflower cheese was also very very good; almost crispy on top but with a cheesy creamy sauce underneath. The scotch egg is also worth a mention as this is a British classic and it is cooked to well here, highly recommended. Other things to note; bread and butter pudding was a big hit, so was the crumble. I had the millionaires cheese cake and although the most popular desert I found it to be a little rich and well, more chocolate than cheesecake. Not really a cheesecake texture but more a hardened chocolate based moose. One last thing, although there were a number of staff members we found the table service to be a little slow and needed improving... but surely this place, with these portions and those prices will be a hit everytime! The interior is all old beams and fireplaces. There's even a little snug called the Dragon's Den which has its own bar and holds up to 12 people. Great for a nice intimate drink with someone. Great pub grub that doesn't cost the earth and all is home prepared. They have a nice big garden here too to enjoy a nice long lunch in!

The Dolpin is belived to date from 1648, whilst the first date known for The Anchor is 1768. Quite bright inside and has the usual JD's menu which is served up by cheerful staff who know how to manage a 'Husband Creche'.! My compliments to JD Wetherspoon for the high standard of their toilets. Wherever I use this chain, the toilets have always been immaculate.

The drink selection is acceptable in the evenings and this pub has a famous gig venue attached. It can get quite busy, but this is normal. Of all the limited places to go out on an evening in Guildford, this is one of the best.

I took the vicar to lunch there on a wet Palm Sunday and found it a charming place, simply furnished and with a welcoming open fire. The original small public and saloon bars have been opened up so that the pub now consists of one large L-shaped room, one wing of which is at a lower level. Being a Sunday, the menu was short - basically roast beef, pork or chicken with all the trimmings. Our Gloucester Old Spot pork with cream mustard sauce came commendably quickly and was delicious, with ample crackling, a tasty Yorkshire pudding and superb roast potatoes. There were no less than five additional vegetables, including red cabbage and parsnips, all fitted comfortably on a large square plate. Slices of crusty brown bread were served automatically, all for £16.95 each. Puddings were apple crumble, bread and butter and brownies, all with cream. We failed to tackle any of them. The wine list is short and we allowed Anna, (who with the chef, Adam Cordery are the proprieters) to recommend an excellent Rioja at £17. No service charge was added to the bill, which I find a little tiresome as you the have to calculate it, but the service itself from Anna and her team of two young girls was exemplary, and the pub was full.

It can still cater for a large number of people and still has quite a decent range of beers. Once a very clicky pub, it now successfully caters for motorists/tourists. The pub is situated quite well for trade from the A24 and the Billingshurst Rd. We still like going there as it holds lots of memories from the old village. The ladies both had the fish cakes which came with a salad and a crème fraiche dip on the side. Their verdict was ok but a bit bland and boring. The beer selection was nothing out of the ordinary but my pint of Sussex was perfectly acceptable. The other punters were a mixed bag of locals with plenty of big family groups and a few couples. Not a pub I would go out of my way to visit again, mainly due to the lack of atmosphere and general blandness, and if you are driving I'm sure you can find better nearby. Just about deserves a 3 star rating.
