The stand out dishes on our table would have easily been the bao buns (served DIY style with the buns, crispy pork, bean shoots and coriander deconstructed for you to mix as you please, along with hoisin sauce), the vegetable spring rolls (quite large, served with greens to add on top to your liking) and sand mullet (served whole to your table to carve - be careful of the bones). It appears that Wine Bank is targeted to two crowds - those who want to buy a bottle and go through the full list, and a very casual crowd who want to stop in for a cheap drink. Perhaps price sensitivity is an issue for the area, but the wines on pour were nothing special at all. The tacky paper menu and unimpressive by the glass list stop this from being a classy affair or place worth seeking out if you're a wine buff. I'm all for individual expression, but I think the place could really benefit from a work uniform or even just a dress code - another notch that really works against this being some place special. A good spot for a casual drink of sauvignon blanc or cheap champagne, but definitely not somewhere I would recommend to visitors unless you were settling in for a full bottle.

While this was nowhere near one of the best pubs that I have been to, the fact that the building…read moredoes have that colonial charm, and the service was pretty good, did leave an impression on me. Mind you, the tap beer selection was quite limited - in fact there was really only three or four choices, which was a real shame. However, they did have a nice and comfortable outdoor area, though that area still was pretty small. Yet, in the end, it certainly did leave an impression on me.

We opted to sit inside in the air conditioning but the bar is also surrounded by a great balcony with tables overlooking the centre of town. The menu offers pretty much everything you'd expect from an American restaurant and is fairly priced but the theme is poorly reflected in the decor. Yard Bird is situated upstairs in an old Irish hotel so it's hard to throw a couple of baseball cards and Budweiser signs around and call it an American bar. I ordered the shrimp po boy and while I was impressed with the generous portion of food I received it was night impossible to eat. When something comes in sandwich/roll form you expect the be able to pick it up and eat it but the whole outside of the roll was covered in shrimp sauce and it was poorly packed (for presentation). It didn't taste too bad but the shrimp really did feel like they were pre-packaged, crumbed and frozen. I understand that seafood is generally on ice but I would expect crumbing/battering/coasting to happen in-house and whilst I can't say for certain this hasn't been the case here, I can say that it didn't seem like it to me. My partner ordered the southern fried yard bird (chicken) and was impressed with the fact that he received breast meat rather than drumsticks and wings. It wasn't amazing food but it certainly wasn't terrible and the price helps that along a bit too. I'd definitely like to give Yard Bird another try at a bustling time.
