What a surprise to see Dr. Daya walk in and I was told he could see me immediately. What? I literally walked in off the street. I asked him if he knew he took walk ins. Today he does. :) The exam isn't fun. Dental work runs a close race. He was gentle as always and then met with me in his office to talk about follow up care and medications I might need. As a first-time mom, I expected more communication, guidance, and information during these visits. Instead, I often left feeling like my concerns were not addressed and that the appointments were a waste of time. Another major issue was the difficulty contacting the office directly. Being required to call a central headquarters and constantly being transferred made it very frustrating to get simple questions answered or handle paperwork. Pregnancy is an important and sometimes stressful time, and patients deserve to feel informed, supported, and heard. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.

Dr. Hoffman herself tells me "not it didn't, go home" .. 24 hours later, I finally trust myself and go into L&D. my water was broken for over 24 hours putting me and baby at risk of infection. I'm forced to stay extra time in the hospital due to risk of infection. June 2025, 7 weeks postpartum, they perforate my uterus trying to place an IUD. december 2025 I return for another IUD placement (after having to leave 3+ voicemails to make an appointment). I am pregnant (remember the failed IUD attempt), obviously no IUD placed at this appointment. January 2026 I came in for a first trimester appointment. They ask how my IUD is. WHAT??? I AM PREGNANT! Ludicrous. i end up miscarrying. Return April 2027 for another IUD attempt. It is placed but I am having severe pelvic pain. I re for a follow up on 4/20 expressing my concern about pain given the previous IUD perforation. NP Tiara Tolbert LAUGHS at me and says "that is normal and not a reason to be seen." 6 days later I am in worse pain than being in labor, not normal for 3 weeks postpartum-IUD insertion. They tell me again on the phone nothing is wrong although they have not checked me for an infection or examined me otherwise. Do not trust them with your reproductive health. They do not care about you.

Many patients like myself are enamored by the credentials of their specialists. What you don't realize until you get there is that you really don't get the benefit of that expertise. Instead, your treatment is handed off to medical students. Frankly, you the patient are much more valuable to Johns Hopkins and their teaching program than they are to you and your medical condition. While I have no problem with Hopkins being a teaching hospital, I do have a problem with the bait and switch approach to healthcare in terms of how residents are integrated into care of patients seeking expert medical care. When a patient pays good money for an expert second opinion, the expectation is that the specialist advertised will be the one who actually conducts a thorough review of your medical records. That is NOT what happens at Johns Hopkins. The residents take oral histories from the patient and reports it back to the billing physician. Based on the resident's oral report and recommendations, the billing physician then comes in the room and gives you their opinion. NO physical exam and only a cursory, confirming conversation about what the resident has told them. It is also very important to note that this typically is done without a close review of your specific medical documentation. There is something very irresponsible about this healthcare approach regardless of the laurels on which this hospital and its outpatient clinics rest. Patients often forget or miss important details that are found in blood work, X-rays and other valuable medical documentation. To exclude that information from the formal diagnostic process is just plain wrong. I definitely would NOT recommend Hopkins for anyone seeking a valid second opinion or even initial opinion on a complex medical issue. The thoroughness is simply not there in terms of a combined clinical AND medical assessment of patients.
