Got a tow to Ensign portage and the guys unloaded and carried our canoes and packs right to the portage entry and were so prompt meeting us at the end of our trip to collect our canoes and unload our packs - all with a fun attitude that started and ended our trip on high notes! Stayed in their bunkhouse pre-trip and post-trip and that was a good decision - clean, comfortable rooms and showers with provided sleeping bags, pillows and towels. Also did the pre-trip breakfast, which was delicious and filling. The Williams and Hall staff was so helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend them for your next trip!

I was worried about coordination, but they have it down to a science (and it couldn't be easier!). While I expected a bit more at the onset (some quick paddling instruction, for example), I did appreciate that they outfitted us up and let us head off to do our thing. Best of all was the return end, where Bob offered us dirt-and-Deet covered campers a cold beer and a hot shower. I definitely recommend this outfitter, and would happily rent from them again.

Ron, Julie and all the staff here are so accommodating, friendly and go out of their way to please guests. Also were given a canoe for use while there. Very nice! A couple good hikes nearby, within driving distance at Kawishiwi Falls, Secret and Blackstone Lake.

If you're thinking of doing this, make the decision! I have to say, Wintergreen was awesome! Paul provided a 1/2 hour orientation, how to work with the dogs, the commands, etc. He made it super easy, and fun! My wife and I went, and there was a family with Mom, Dad, and the kids 9 & 10. We had 3 sleds for each pair on a half day excursion. Our guides (one in front and one in back) were awesome, helpful, and knowledgeable of the terrain and nature: our guide paused to show us a burrow in the snow where you could see a feather print on the snow(!) explaining it was from a grouse that burrows in the winter for warmth and we were observing its exodus! So cool! Really, can't say enough for this resort and this experience! Oh yea, and we had a favorite dog: Bob. :)

North Woods Adventures was amazing!!…read more My bridesmaids hired them for my bachelorette party. They picked us up at my home at, and took us to the local bars in the Lake Vermilion area. The guide, as well.as the drivers were fun, and they always made sure everyone got back on the bus. We were able to drink in the vehicle in between stops, listened to music, and it was summer so the whole thing was open-air. Awesome all around. At the end of the night (bar close), they brought us back to my place. The guide also took photos and will be putting them on a cd for us. All around a fantastic time!

My family and I did a 1-day guided tour with Jarett (sorry if I butchered the spelling!)…read more Absolutely worth the 4-hour trip from Minneapolis! (Check out Northernair Lodge for accommodations!) The entire tour was incredible. All of the staff were friendly and helpful (even at 8am!) Jarett gave us excellent instruction, as this was the first time any of us had canoed. Beyond the interesting and knowledgeable company Jarett provided, he was always conscious of stopping for lunch* or for photo ops when it seemed like we needed a break. He was willing to canoe with us for as short or long of a time as we wanted, and the trip was worth every penny. Every spot on Lake One is absolutely breathtaking. (We did have the option to canoe into Lake Two, but we chose to just take our time in Lake One.) I can't say enough great things about our experience with this company and the area in general! *I believe there is an option for the company to provide you with lunch, but we just packed our own and brought it in the canoe.

Amazing winter holiday day at Timber Trail Lodge. My son…read moreparticipated in an individual holiday stay program at Northern Tier scouting camp, and we decided to leverage a family vacation off of his visit to the boundary waters area. (It's a short drive to Northern Tier from Timber Trail if you are planning a scout trip!) We were not disappointed. Timber Trail met and exceeded our expectations - especially in the winter. George is a tremendous and thoughtful host, and he took great care and concern to ensure we had a great stay. I brought my 82-year-old dad along, and he enjoy sitting on the screen porch, reading books, and watching the snow fall. The cabin was immaculate and well-appointed, and we had everything we needed for our wintry, 7-night stay. We enjoyed the snow, the frozen lake, borrowing board games from the main lodge, and more sledding than my southern kids (ages 13 and 10) could squeeze into the short winter daylight hours. Feeding chickadees from our hands, playing in the snow, and warming up in the cozy cabin made for great family memories. We are looking forward to enjoying Timber Trail Lodge in the the summer months as well on a return trip to Ely.

I remember great experiences with my grandparents and my mom, now I go there with my kids. They family who owns it is always on the property and very nice. The cabins we have stayed in are always very clean and well outfitted. Kitchen, stove, heaters, bathrooms all work great and without any smells. I only mention this because I have been other places and you smell the bathroom and the gas all of the time. Fishing at TT is the best. This year i got a 9 pound Northern right off the dock. They have gear and bait as well as light food on site. There is a game room, book library and pool hall at the lodge. I go for runs down the road and always see wildlife. Great gateway to the BWCA!

I was able to connect to my work server to get a couple quick things done! The new owners are super nice and very personable, I'm excited to come back as soon as I can!!

We love to tent up in the north shore during fall colors season. We aren't great at planning ahead…read moreso we scramble to find a campground.t he state parks are always booked months in advance, so it's the small private campgrounds in the area we enjoy. This one is sitting right on the lax lake. Every campsite will have some sort of view of the lake with some trees but it is not heavily wooded. You can see your neighbor but you're not packed in their like some campsites without any trees. Each campsite had plenty of space with a picnic table and a fire pit. I was a little disappointed in the one car rule because there was so much space to fit two cars and two tents at one campsite. It seems more of a family oriented campground that would be great for kids. We don't have any, so the kids got a little annoying for us. Especially when they are playing and yelling outside at seven in the morning. The bathrooms and quarter operated showers are well kept, clean and aren't far from any of the tent sites. The office is adorable and has a decent selection of snacks and camping things, like fire firewood, if you forget anything. You can also rent kayaks and pontoons for the lake. I felt that the tent sites were a little on the higher side for a campground but understandably so being on a lake with full bathroom, showers and laundry.
