Some of the teachers lacked in discipline and even let pupils get away with cheating in exams! The I.T. department was dreadful, with us pupils knowing more than the teachers at times. The best departments were the art, history and textiles departments. The teachers always had innovative new ways to teach us and most lessons were a joy. The school dinners were not nice and I spent the last two years of my time there going home for dinner. The school did receive a very good OFSTED report whilst I was there and I hear that it is continuously improving under the supervision of the great head mistress!

We have a young son who will be starting school in a year, so we were planning ahead. One of the big factors for picking the house we did was it's proximity to Raddlebarn school. Once we'd removed all the faith schools from equation, Raddlebarn is in the Top 40 schools in the entire city, which was a fairly good recommendation. A better recommendation comes from the parents of the kid who go there (many of whom are either our friends, or else neighbours) and almost all of them have got nothing but good things to say about the place. The school has a lovely feel to it and I feel 100% confident in sending our boy there next year.

I was accused of being a bullying victim, a homosexual and a recent expellee. It was like the first episode of the Inbetweeners. The school seemed to always be in competition with the neighbouring comprehensive school, Tudor Grange. They had the better exam results of the two and the better reputation for behaviour and attendance. The school was a welcome relief to me; I was pushed too hard at the other school by staff and peers alike. This was a new start in a more liberal school. And I got all of my GCSE's at grades A*-C's and was very happy with Alderbrook for all their help and support at the end of my time there. These days' people say that schools should be stricter like they were in the 1950's. If an approach like this had been adopted when I was at school I would have crashed and burned. I've never liked being told what to do, so Alderbrook was great for me.

An independent school with a hefty price tag, it's also got the educational achievement and well-educated teaching staff to make it worthwhile. It's known locally as "the posh school"! Sollihull School is a day school for children aged 7-18. Children may attend for all 10 years of their Junior and Senior school years, or apply for admission at the age of 16, to attend only the Sixth Form school. The school is situated on several acres near Sollihull town centre on a very attractive plot with emerald-green lawns and Georgian red brick buildings. The only building that seems to really need some improvement is the gymnasium, which is being rebuilt in 2010-2011, thankfully. The extensive and demanding curriculum includes the Arts, the Classics, Business Studies, an excellent Music programme, and dedication to the Sciences, just to name a few. The school operates a no-tolerance approach to bullying, and the pupils I know who go there say that teachers and play area assistants are quick to intervene if a child is being isolated or bullied. Though the A Level and GCSE results are excellent, the homework load is not very rigorous, leaving families and children time for extra-curricular activities. The fees are high, at just over £7700 per year for under-11s and just under £9500 for over-11s. A recent Independent Schools Inspectorate Report read: "The Junior School at Solihull is a happy, close-knit community in which pupils thrive through a varied curriculum well-suited to their needs." My son is close friends with several pupils who attend the school, and they always seem pleased with their teachers and fellow pupils. No child really likes school, but picking a good one is one of the best things a parent can do to further their child's success in later life.

On the way out of the doors there was a Banana peel on the floor, and I asked the lunch lady politely if it could picked up as my hands were holding the tray with the abomination of the biggest cause of diarrhoea on my plate. The lunch lady responded with no, and then I heard the word 'paki' under her breath. I carried on walking to find myself tripping up on the banana peel and me an asian almost swimming in curry, I'm surprised I didn't drown. There was an uproar of the sound 'weyyyyy', and I thought to myself this has to be he most supportive school.

The school went through a couple of headteachers whilst i was there, mrs Yea and mr Jelly. It comprised of and still does have reception, years 1,2. And primary section comprising oy years 3,4,5 and lastly 6. They have a nursey on site too. The school has two playgrounds and a play area with various bits and bobs for children to play on. This was not here when i attened.

I really enjoyed my time here, i was made to feel really welcome when i joined in the sixth form. The teaching staff are friendly and on the most part really approachable. Whenever I have had questions or concerns I have always felt listened to. Indeed, any small suggestions I have made have been welcomed and I feel involved in the school. I would say that if there are any areas for change it would be on improved communication about every day information and lesson content. I also feel that more formal opportunities for parental involvement might work well in the future. There are a lot of parents out there who would like to be more involved but who aren't sure how to go about it, so maybe the Wheelies PTA needs to be more prominent. Overall though, a good school that has really happy children, which I think is the most important thing in the end because if your child isn't happy, they won't learn.
