I will make this a pilgrimage on each visit to my fave city. I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about this iconic piece of music history. The lads club (now a lads and girls club) was established in 1903. The Smiths room is glorious and mesmerizing. There are so many photos and memorabilia to take in. It's one of the greatest places on earth. The folks at the club are so kind and just fascinating human beings. Can't wait for my next visit.

What a superb 120 year old place to keeps kids out of gangs etc. Leslie, whom I think manages the Salford Lads Club, told me it is the third most visited music related site in the UK behind Abbey Road and Liverpool. Bought lots of cool items in gift shop to give to friends. If you visit make sure you go on a Wednesday or Saturday between 11 am and 2 pm. Well worth it when they are open.

This used to be known locally as Poynton folk centre and I have in the past seen many live bands…read morehere. Now the centre concentrates on a mix between adult learning courses (something for everyone) and in the evening they run dance classes in the form of "Modern Jive" a great way to have fun, keep fit and meet new friends. It's the kind of places you could easily go to alone and feel relaxed. Quite often on a sunday the car park is a host for the ever popular car boot sales with both indoor and outdoor sites. Well worth keeping an eye on this place. Something different is always happening here.

This shop is a fun, inventive way of subverting consumer culture. (cheap prices too!) Hannah (the…read morelady who runs it) recycles things found in the bins left by students and cleans them up. (I'm always shocked by what people throw away!) I came in for school supplies and left with kitchen bowls, a bookcase, a vase, art books, glasses, and a smile on my face. Such good energy in there. :)

I've occasionally been met with less than enthusiastic responses from other charity shops on that strip when off loading personal donations (be it clothes/toys/games). Help the aged have always taken such donations without any hint of malice (yes - can you believe I've given thousand yard stares by the proprietors of other stores when attempting to donate a bin bag full of decent donationsit's not as though I'm selling crack to them is it?). Besides at least Help the Aged belongs in this decade unlike the other relics further towards the Wilmslow Road end of Copson Street. Perhaps not quite Oxfam territory but the prices are far more reasonable that that shop. They usually have a good set of clothes (usually females fare better for clothes in charity shops than men - their clothes are usually bequeathed from boredom whilst ours are off the backs of the recently deceased. Still, recycling is a good thing.) Books and the usual bizarre items (David Hasselhoff Candlesticks for example) are all set out here. Worth a visit for you bargain hunters out there.

A friend of mine used this place for her wedding, it was pretty good. In terms of space there is a…read moregood sized hall which has a bar, and the kitchen is a good size. There is also a room to the back which is a decent size all be in smaller. We spent a Friday setting it up, ready for the Saturday, and then took everything down on the Sunday afterwards. The husband and wife team who run are space are okay, although the husband just seems to be in a grump. Certainly a good location as it is fairly easy to get to, and also has a great sized field behind it, so if you want to take photo's etc. with country views you can do that. Lots of car parking too.

This city centre charity shop is a good place for a lunchtime browse. The shop is small inside, but…read moreit's well laid out. It stocks mainly clothes, plus shoes, books, CDs, videos, bric-a-brac, and a small section for toys. The central location means that stock turnover is high, so even if you pop in every day, chances are you'll see something new. However this does mean that the shop gets very busy, especially at lunchtime. The clothes rails are tightly packed together so it can be difficult to manouvre between them when other people are trying to do the same. Also, there's only one changing room, so there can be queues if you want to try something on. Prices are average although there is sometimes some illogical pricing - sometimes they have items from Primark etc that are priced close to what the items would have cost new. I particularly like the book section, as they have some interesting books in great condition, priced around the £1.99-£2.50 mark.

TL;DR - An important historical building house a small but important museum…read more This house is a real slice of history, where the suffragette movement had its roots. There's something incredible about walking around the house and thinking about the conversations which must have taken place here... the back room has been restored to how it would have once been, and it's there in particular that you can imagine yourself back at the start of the 20th century. The museum itself is very small though. The front room contains a few exhibits about the key figures in the suffragette movement. The next room contains a very good video exhibit - make sure you watch the whole thing - and then the back room is a restored living room. On the other side of the house is an exhibition on more modern women's rights movements and from there you can access a small cafe. The museum itself is small and you can tell that this is a community/volunteer led affair rather than a commercial one. However, the historical importance of the movement combined with the significance of this particular building make it well worth a visit.
