This is the kind of huge used bookstore where it's overwhelming organized and disorganized chaos when you walk in. I'm sure the owners of this fine establishment know where everything is, and it would take more than a couple wonderful hours for me to figure this place out. Luckily for Gayle and me, the Nevada-centric books were up front. She found one that had a good description of the "nearby" Hot Creek Ranch, where her extended family still has ownership. I enjoyed and purchased an older Nevada tour book, with great maps and descriptions. And it really didn't matter that many of these places were no more. Unfortunately, our time was limited and I don't think we even scratched the surface of this place. But we'll be back to peel this onion back a little more. read more

Tons of old books to peruse, so I'm going to give four stars for selection. That said, I do prefer used book stores that are more curated, as this is more of a hodgepodge of old books, many of which are priced almost as high as their retail price, odd for a used book store. Nonetheless, I found a cool book about Route 66 that was $5 below retail, and purchased it since it looks great. They also have lots of books near the front about local places and their history as well as a large collection of used DVDs. read more

This place is neat, we were at our ranch in Rachel and had no DVDs to watch as it was a freezing week. We took a day trip to Tonopah and I figured the bookstore would have DVDs...yep they had a ton of them. Priced right, the woman there was very friendly....5 stars...you guys deserve it. read more

What a gem! This is a beautiful book shop with tons and tons of books to choose from, they had some really interesting stuff in there, I got the Book of Mormon in Arabic which I thought was cool and for an amazing price too. You must stop by, even if it's just to visit. I bet you would not leave empty handed... And if I could I would give 6 stars for the kitty i met wandering between the book shelves. Traveler through ghostly Nevada, you weren't likely driving through the desert to Tonopah in search of a quality used bookstore. But, surprise: it's here! Whitney's has an excellent selection of mining & history books about Tonopah. It rewards browsing through its other sections, including biography, science, general fiction, psychology & self-help, and lots more. Enjoy a drink of cold water and a long chat with the owner, a fascinating fellow, while he rings up your purchases. For me, this stop was second only to the Tonopah Mining Park. read more

This is a spectacular bookstore. A real gem in the desert. I was quite surprised to find that it had such a huge inventory and had just the esoteric books that I sought. The proprietor is a kindly, gentle sort who sure knows his inventory. Very engaging and personable. I will be sure and hit this store every time I travel through Tonopah as it is a real delight! read more

Excellent selections ,DVD's also. For $6 I got enough books to last me for 6 months ( and I am a voracious reader).The Store Employee was very pleasant and helpful.Central Nevada is not known for it's book stores so this place is truly beneficial discovery. read more
