Looked nice on entering but was quite cold. Noticed other patrons still had their coats and jackets on and some were eating. First red flag. Young waitress took our drinks order while we looked at menu. We ordered 2 roast beef, 1 chicken and 1 mixed meat. Food was served within 10 minutes. 2nd red flag. One of my sons food was cold as was my mashed potatoes and vegetables. The gravy was like water. The roast potatoes were anaemic. No flavour, no crispness whatsoever. My eldest said they were frozen potatoes as they are like the ones he gets at his work. Definitely not homemade in meat juices! My other two said their meals were ok but I knew they were trying to not upset me. Then when we looked at the 2 slices of beef on our plates, I nearly threw up! There was gristly fat around the outside, but the worst was the HUGE slab of uncooked, white, slimy fat in the middle of the slices. There was more fat than meat. My sons said their meat was the same. You wouldn't serve it to your dog! I have never in my 60 years been served such a horrid meal. I have had so much better at a Toby Carvery! I could not eat it. When the waitress came to the table she asked if the meal was ok, I said no, it was inedible and explained why. She said that she would speak to the kitchen. She came back with the bill but no apology, nothing. Just says it all really. We drove away hungry and I was upset. We went to Morrisons on the way back and I bought them all a meal deal. I filled in a survey online, but yet again, have never had a reply.

We ordered some white wine and on the barman's recommendation he came over and suggested a cheaper bottle which was his personal favourite and said if we tried it and didn't like he would drink it later on! All in good humour we loved the wine and continued on our decisions on the food... I shared the arribatta mussels whereas my dad opted for a seafood platter for one which was huge! After mopping up the mussel sauce with some soft italian bread we all try tested some of the offerings from the seafood platter including; some pate, fresh salmon and some crab -YUM! For the main event I went for the Fillet al Pepe i.e. fillet steak in a gorgeous creamy peppercorn sauce. Arriving medium to rare with a smothering of sauce and side of chips and some vegetable to share I was back in steak heaven! It is a delightful little cafe with a mix of traditional British and cafe dishes as well as a wide variety of cakes, tarts, and other sweets. I had the steak and kidney pudding which was delicious. My wife went for the leek and potato soup and a salad, my son for the sausage, gravy & chips, and my daughter for the corned beef pie - and there were no complaints and little conversation until plates began to empty. Sadly, we had no room left for dessert and our plan to come back for afters came to naught. The service was sweet and attentive and as I said the atmosphere is cosy, quaint, and (it must be admitted) a little bit homely. Come for lunch or come for an afternoon tea and cake but do come.

The menu is a good selection from the home made burgers to Jacket potatoes. I love the Salmon or the Tuna with fresh veg (not in the butter) There is something for every one taste. A good choise of deserts if you have room and the Home made cake at £4.25 to take home or eat there.There is a family area soft play for the little one's five and under plus games for the the older ones. There is also toilets for the children in that area. There is t.v. which you can watch your children playing while you eat and have a chat.
