It is a fairly large and modern store and it does stand out more than most within the town centre's shopping street, especially with the dark nights drawing in through these cold winter months and it is one of the larger stores on George Street anyway. It does shut early but this is common in the town centre and I did find the store again to be a little understaffed considering I did visit at quite a busy time (Saturday, the run-up to Christmas). 3* - Nice book-store for a big town, obviously it is a chain and I feel a little uneasy about paying higher prices at a chain compared to online retailers unless it is at an independent book-store, again this store doesn't compare to larger branches in larger towns and shopping centres but still it isn't a bad alternative if you don't fancy heading into Manchester from Alty.

It's a brand you pretty much expect to find wherever you go. This store fits that quota, it's nothing too exciting/different, it's your typical, average WHSmith. The store is a little dark, and while it isn't as modern as some of their newer stores, the store isn't as old-fashioned as some of their older ones which aren't very easy on the eye either. It is in a good location within Bolton town centre, it is a couple of minutes away from most shops in the town centre as well as Bolton Interchange. The prices are a little high, but they do have a satisfactory selection of books/drinks, nothing too impressive but if you're thirsty in town and looking for a quick beverage or to put on your lottery, without much of a queue and/or without having to go into a larger store such as one of the nearby supermarkets, this isn't too bad. The staff seemed friendly enough. 3*

Three floors! Three floors of... stuff! I don't know that I have ever been in a WHSmith that…read morespans three floors. Although three floors doesn't necessarily mean that it is bigger or contains more stock than the average WHSmith. Actually, it feels a bit cluttered... when we walked in it actually felt a bit like a location of The Works rather than a WHSmith. We didn't go upstairs, but the main floor has magazines, cards, stationary while the bottom floor has books. We were actually there looking for books and while they have a decent selection, it isn't as large as some of the other stores I have been to. Also if you have a large shopping bag or back pack, you may want to watch turning around and moving about as some of the spots in the store are quite narrow. It can be difficult to find a staff member, especially if you are on the bottom floor and the staff are on the other floors. I only saw stairs to access the other floors, so I'm not sure if it is accessible for all customers.

The product range and prices are pretty much what one would expect from WHSmith, a little overpriced and the drinks selection seems lacking but the selection of newspapers and stationery is amongst the best in Preston centre, if you don't mind paying a little more. The store could be better maintained, a small refurb and improving the damaged flooring and lighting would work wonders. The store still seems a little dark and hasn't been renovated as fully as many other WHSmith stores. The store does shut at 17:30 Monday - Saturday, compared to a good number of other stores nearby that stay open until 18:00, It's a shame they do not open for this extra half an hour as they are already shutting quite early anyway. 3*

The branch in the Arndale is particularly good, boasting two floors of books ranging from fiction to cookery to travel guides, with great sections of art books too. They also stock a really good variety of magazines, including all the higher end fashion magazines like Lula and Love that are highly sought after and hard to find in your local newsagent. It was also an invaluable source of clicky pencils when I was studying Chinese as a free choice module last year - those characters require a very fine point! This branch is also boasts an in-store Jessops, which my boyfriend recently made the most of when purchasing a Nikon point and shoot camera. The member of staff we dealt with was friendly and helpful and was keen to inform him of the forty free prints he earned on purchase of his camera.

I must admit I'm not the greatest of book reader, but I do know when you readi a really good one, it's a fantastic experience.. I'm more into audio books now.. Yip I know ,,the easy and lazy way out. And if you have time to put down that best selling novel you can turn your reading to magazines, newspapers, booklets , Ohhh you name it they have it. Then there 's the other shelves,,, Yes the other shelves. The little more exciting shelves. Ummm let me see What I can buy ? A day on a Race Track, An Hot Air Ballooon Ride, Rock Concert Tickets, A day out having Mud plastered on your face. Or A set of Earphones, Computer Mouse, An exciting little machine to shred all of those old Love Letters and other pieces of private paper. This branch of Waterstones is located on Deansgate in Bolton, it is a relatively small branch of…read morethe large book chain, and because of this, the store might feel more cluttered and slightly harder to get around, as they are trying to pack everything into such a small space, giving the store a poor feel. The store has a slightly old-fashioned nature, even more so than other branches such as Gateshead Metrocentre and Manchester Arndale, which are the two other branches of Waterstones, I have visited recently. The staff didn't seem too helpful or friendly which was a shame, and the overall selection at the store was okay at best, it certainly wasn't fantastic. Considering factors with the overall feel of the store as well as the poor service and selection, I sadly feel Bolton's Waterstones store deserves a single one-star rating.

Wh smith is a great shop to stock up on all your stationary, books and magazines! This shop does…read moregift vouchers which are good to give the kids at christmas. I think this shop is great for the offers they have on their books. They always get the best sellers in here and if they don't have they will order it for you and have it in store for you by the end of the week. I really can't fault them! It's a shame really because the wh smith in blackburn has had to move to a smaller premesis as there is a nwe shopping centre being built. They don't have as much stuff in this shop but still i can't complain! I just hope they get a bigger shop once the new shopping centre is built. I love the sales in here! A lot of the books and dvd go very cheap! I tend to wait for the sales beofre i buy my new books.
