Why Not Nightclub
Phil S.

02/11/18 - My buddy and I were down in Dumaguete looking for a club we had been to the last time we were down there 5 years ago. After walking around & searching up the streets we were told they went out of business. We were kind of bummed because we had a good time the last time we went there. We asked about other club & they directed us to the Why Not Nightclub We got there around 9:30pm and the place was pretty dark & was pretty empty. There was an odd arrangement of seating from bleacher type benches to tables & bar stools. We sat down and grabbed a few beers. As it got later around 10:30 or so things started to pick up as more people filtered in. There was a pretty good mix of locals, foreigners & freelancers. The DJ's were playing pretty good music and the club started hopping to the beat (I'm firmly convinced that all Filipinos can dance before they can walk and they all sing Karaoke. At any rate the bartender Janice kept me company a good part of the night and even talked me out onto the dance floor. (Yeah this 2 left footed beast was actually dancing (must have been da beers)) My buddy left about midnight as we had to get up at 5am to catch the boat from Dumaguete @ 6am back to the island Cebu is on, then a 5hr bus ride back to Cebu from where he ferry dropped us off. We had a 6pm flight from Cebu back to Manila. I had a great time @ Why Not and ended up leaving around 2am. Thanks Janice for a fun evening in Dumaguete @ Why Not. Will I go back the next time I'm there absolutely.

Poor breakfast service. Cold food. I stopped by during nighttime and it was full of bar girls hitting on me. Not impressed

First time in Philippines, firs time to Music One and it was just as I expected. I was not used to…read morethe renting a room and sing privately enviorment of Karaoke, versus here in America where people sing openly on stage in front of an audience. It was cool, with the company I was keeping, just not as lively as I'm used to in America with more human interaction.

I have walked past this place for a couple of years and always noted how nice it looks on the…read moreinside. I went to check out the prices and it was not too bad. They had an option where you can rent the room minimum of three hours and it would allow you to use the room rate toward your consumables. I was a little confused about what consumables may be defined as. Is beer counted? Hard liquor? I was sure about food, but what about cigarettes? It is literally all inclusive of anything you can buy there. So I think the 1300 php for the three hours was a good deal. We had a group of nine of us and we didn't spend more than what we would have if we rented the room. Now, we were only drinking water but we all had dinner so I think they price is really good. The first room we went into didn't work. Seems like the place needs to put some money into repairs. They were also out of almost every item on the menu. We were constantly asking for items they didn't have...and we were trying to ignore the ones labelled as "out". So the selection was pretty skim. Not only do they have karaoke rooms, you can also rent movies or rent an Xbox room. Seems like a good time

I'm giving this bar 4 of 5 stars because it's actually the closest thing one can get from a real…read morebar experience. Upon entry, you will be greeted by the bouncer who also serves as the ticket seller. Door fee is php80 with free drink (our that time was between rhum coke and vodka sprite, we chose the latter). Don't expect too much from the mix. Ours didn't taste like vodka sprite but for the price you pay, it's hard to fault the bar for offering sub-standard versions. Inside is a squarish-area with low ceiling. That made the place look smaller than it really is. The bar is to the left while the dj booth is on the right. There are several tall tables and quite a number of smaller ones. These are all for free as long as you get in early. I was told that they invite guest DJs every Saturday and the one playing that night was superb. Tunes are mostly Billboard Top 100 remixes. The crowd is a motley combination. There are locals (very easy to spot as they usually dress laid back), old, creepy foreigners, young foreigners, and college students. The older foreigners get in quite drunk so they're rowdier and creepier than normal. The club follows a strict dresscodes for men. No Sando / Sleeveless, no slippers. Shorts are okay though. Oh and you're only allowed to smoke outside. All in all, it was a pleasant experience. Definitely a step towards the right direction for Dumaguete. I just wish they can jack the price some more so unsavory locals can't get in and mess up the otherwise good crowd. I guess that's hard to do in Dumaguete where people are probably used to paying a smidge for almost everything.
