Also, the gym is super kid friendly. They have a separate play area in the back for mobile kids, and I bring my infant in to most of my workouts. I've seen a lot of moms brings their kids in too. All the coaches are great. Kim, Aush, Kirsten, Fritz, and Nuno are all award winning coaches and athletes. Drew, I'm pretty sure hasn't had a carb since 2004. Renegade workouts feel so good! I love the combination of cardio and strengths to get sweaty sweaty…read moresweaty! This location has some pros and cons. Parking tends to be easy if you're patient with those leaving class before yours. The room feels very spacious and large. The con is that this location gets warm. Unlike some of the other ones that have air flowing, this one feels like it depends on fans, so an afternoon class in the summer will really get your heart rate going because of how hot it is. The format of the workout is three stations- cardio, racks and turf. If the class isn't full, you are able to double up. I like to start with cardio to get it out of the way. The coach will demo moves for all stations beforehand and then signal you when it's time to move to the next exercise. The class keeps a great pace and has you moving with very brief recovery breaks. Weekend classes are full body where the weekday ones have a focus area. Really love getting to come to these classes! They are tough but a solid calorie burn and sweat!

Here's something I realized about myself: if I'm going to work out in a gym, it either needs to be…read moreridiculously high-end and more expensive than I'm typically willing to pay or packed with personality and comfort. This place falls into the latter category. It's an old, refurbished firehouse, run by a cool guy, who gives off old fireman energy (that's a compliment btw. I know a couple people who refer to fireman as "fire cops" and I strongly disagree with that branding). It's my understanding that this is unlimited access once you sign up, but I only do drop in for day use when I'm in town and I really appreciate how easy it is to do. Interior design is relaxed with sports and music related art work. They have all the equipment that the vast majority of people will need. There's occasional mask wearers so if that's something you want to wear, there's no dumb jocks staring at you uncomfortably. Generally fine music although, tragically; like most places in San Diego, it plays too much 311-sublime-Jack Johnson-white guy rock. This is a small knock, as most people are wearing headphones or ear buds and the place is otherwise rad. The fact that there's not more reviews on it, lead me to believe that people are trying to keep it from getting too crowded.

Gabrielle's welcoming demeanor and contagious positivity create a great atmosphere, and Christian's coaching style is equally motivating and supportive. The classes themselves are high-energy, challenging, and adaptable to different fitness levels. What I love most is that each coach brings their unique style and energy to the table. Once you find the coach who resonate with you, it's easy to stick with them and stay consistent. The variety keeps things interesting, and you'll never get bored while working toward your fitness goals. One of the challenges, however, is parking. Since Lazy Acres put up signs claiming what feels like half the lot, finding a spot can be a headache. I've learned not to arrive too early because spots typically free up only once the previous class ends. While it can be frustrating to circle the lot, a little patience and timing go a long way. It's something to keep in mind when planning your visits. The gym itself could benefit from more regular cleaning and maintenance. A deep cleaning is definitely overdue, as dust, hair, and even cobwebs can be seen in corners. Some benches are rusty and could use replacing. Something to note is that there is only one park, so big dogs are combined with small ones. Theres a small obstacle course for dogs to jump and run through. And for the humans, there's also a few benches on the side to sit at.

There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.

If I could give this no star I would. The trainers are amazing except Oscar who is the lead trainer but Oscar is arrogant and rude to members. Those of us in the neighborhood have one by one left and after this last black Friday purchase I will look elsewhere. It is overpriced and does not have showers so completely inconvenient. Even changing the 8:30 to 9am is something Oscar refuses to do. He will load your email address with deals and false advertises. What makes it worse his business partners never listen to concerns. Gfit is definitely not South Park material but thankfully many gyms are coming very close and with showers. Also the front desk girl Diana always talks about the lead trainer. Hopefully this negative energy leaves soon. As nice as the owner Brad is he can not be a professional and keep rescuing Oscar and his unprofessional arrogance. I attended the Roots Dance Theater's 3rd Sunday of the month to "explore movement and physical fitness" as it states in their flyer. It would have been lovely to have an opportunity to meet the choreographers/coaches after the event. One just left after her segment. Bummer! Gift outdoor classes are everything. 2020 has turned the world upside down but at least we can sweat it out at 28th/Beech Street Park. Thank the heavens for Kristen and her Gfit team. The split between the upstairs and downstairs areas can be inconvenient depending on the workout but it's mostly fine. I've been dropping in here for almost a year, and the front desk staff has always been friendly and helpful with me. My interaction with the owner today, however, left me feeling really put off. First, he gave me a hard time about the drop-in rate and was telling me about some personal trainers trying to sneak clients (I wasn't sure if he was suggesting I was trying to do that but it made me feel uncomfortable). Later, he asked me to not drop my bb on the lifting platform while deadlifting because it's too loud (I've always done that, that's what the lifting platform is for...). I couldn't help but to feel like I was being patronized because I am a woman. I've trained at many gyms over the years. This was the first time I've felt treated with so little regard as a client. I've liked this gym before but I won't be coming back again.

I was shopping around for a personal trainer and found SKfit which was near my house and had good yelp reviews. I emailed them for more info and Sly got back to me right away. I planned to do only a few sessions to build some muscle and learn how to use gym equipment (I'd previously only done pilates and yoga and had never been to a traditional gym). But 14 months later I'm still exercising here weekly because this place has great energy and my trainer Jenna is awesome! Jenna's super fun, knowledgeable, and all-around wonderful. She personalizes my sessions based on my goals (destress, feel stronger). She makes sure not to overwork people so that they don't learn to associate exercise with pain and unhappiness. She takes care to work the muscle groups evenly. She knows exactly what to say to help me correct my form. She has a lot of body knowledge (there's probably a better term for that) and can answer all my questions about muscles/joints and how different foods are broken down in the body and provide energy. She also makes it fun to work out!! I never dread my sessions because she always works with my mood/energy level. If I would've started working with a serious muscle-obsessed trainer I probably would've been turned off from weight training in a gym environment. But Jenna bumps music and sings and laughs. She's laid back, nonjudgmental, and just wants people to be happy. She's a great role model and I've learned a lot from her. I still see exercise mostly as a chore but I'm learning to have more fun with it. What's probably most important is that I'm much stronger now and don't get as exhausted with daily life as I used to. Working out at SKfit with Jenna was one of the best decisions I've made!! I really appreciate the influence it's had on my life :)

I also have some issues related to my joints and she always checks in to make sure I'm doing ok. I often see the owner when I'm there and he is a super nice guy as well. I worked with him at the beginning to find the right trainer for me, and he was very service oriented, as is everyone I have come across there. I am not a gym person, but truly enjoy my weekly workouts with Jenna at Skfit. Great place that I can wholeheartedly recommend.

She makes sure we are maximizing our potential, and minimizing our chance or injury. We started looking for trainers that would focus on longevity and weight training in Nov of 2023 and after meeting with several we knew Laura and Fury Functional Fitness was the perfect fit. She is flexible, personalized and her monthly plans fit into our budget! I have several injuries that have prevented me from lifting heavier weight and I knew I needed someone to watch my form and give me workouts to build up safely. My goal is to gain muscle and recomp (swap fat for muscle!) Kurt wants to lose weight and tone. We have seen progress and we are committed for the long haul. Kurt has never stuck to a gym/weight training program for more than a few weeks, but after nearly 4 months we are both going strong! We also love the other people that we have met at our sessions. It is a great atmosphere where we support each other without feeling overly competitive. Everyone working on their our thing at their own pace...no judgement! All of the instructors are super friendly, welcoming and helpful. Everyone that attends this gym is also super friendly, many of the workouts are partner workouts, so you end up working out with the same person/people and everyone was super nice, friendly and helpful. I like the idea of working out at elevation for better training. I also really enjoyed the variety of workouts. Every week they have a couple of strength classes, hiit/tabata style classes and then conditioning which is kind of a combo. They demo the exercises in the beginning of class, then you do a warm up. Then you get partnered up and follow the circuit which is up on a tv. It's a little hard to follow sometimes, especially the quicker classes, but there's always at least 2 instructors, usually more, and they're coming around and helping you figure out what to do/when etc. They also help with proper proper form. At the end of class there's a nice breathing cool down. Overall loved the gym, it's honestly a little pricey, but about on par with many of the other nicer gyms in the area.
