Don't go if you family at the same office, they will mix up info-disclosing sensitive info (and violate hipaa in the same time). I went a number of years back. The doctors office seemed busy and organized. Some of his other doctors/partners seemed too casual. Dr. Carolina Vasquez was great, an encourager, that was further back... This doctor saw the isolated issue, not how all things related to the whole as contributors or detractors from the illness. Visits left me feeling fractured and ignored. Sadly, the doctor went too far and got sarcastic and personal, belittling even. A bit disturbing and unprofessional. I don't need to bicker or argue to prove my authority over my body or my mind, or my worth. I've danced that nonsense with drunkards. After he expressed his irritation, I informed him I wouldn't be back. I hope his humility returns. Just because you work in a building with your name on it, doesn't mean you're carrying out God's purpose as He wills it. Very nice doctor, but I can never get an appointment for my mom next week or the following one. I just called the office, and the soonest they could see her was December! This office has just become too busy, and this is not acceptable for a 91 years old patient. I will be moving my mother to another physician. This is a big hassle. read more

Yesterday I received a phone call from Sandra and Dr. Wielenga of Wielenga Medical Group expressing concern about my updated review from a while back. I failed to mention to them on the phone that I do not write such hastiness *unless* my concerns have not been heard otherwise. Sandra is a patient outreach liaison (although her actual title escapes me) that I will be touching base with in the future - good or bad. There was a period for a while that was a bit rocky in terms of communication with the office staff from late 2018 to spring/early summer of 2019. The communication has since improved drastically and WMG is back to being a 5-star care facility.* Just FYI... some other notes: On same day appointments, I have been seen by fill-in staff members, but they all pale in comparison to both Dr. Wielenga and Vanessa, P.A. For my woman wellness exams, I am typically seen by Vanessa. She's very easygoing and easy to talk to. She will follow-up with a phone call too when necessary! Top notch. I chose this medical group when we first moved here in 2012. While there have been a few speed bumps with various experiences, Dr. Wielenga has always left a caring, genuine impression on my husband and me. *I was not told or even given a suggestion to update my review. Dr. Wielenga always takes care of all of his patients no matter when I'm there I always feel like I'm at home and he always makes me feel better just being there in his presence at the other day. I believe any hospital or place of medical attention should always have a good atmosphere, and seek positivity and love within their own institution And willing a medical group. I am a patient of Dr Wielenga and I have not received the care that I deserve. I visited the doctor's office to get a physical. The only thing I received was a blood test and nothing else. The doctors did not follow up with me. It is so hard to get good service in the front office. The girls do not take their job seriously. They also don't follow up on messages left by patients. I am going to change primary doctor's because going to this doctor's office is a total waste of time. read more

Good if you can get ahold of them. They called me at 4:45pm on a Friday to confirm an appointment then abruptly closed. Forwarded all calls to an emergency line and then does not pick up the phone during business hours Monday with a full voicemail inbox so you cant leave a message. I called 9 times - the only helpful person was their emergency contractor who said they couldn't forward me to a voicemail. Like I said - totally good IF - hard IF - you can get ahold of them. My father had an appointment scheduled today, and because he didn't answer his phone due to work policy, they canceled his appointment without notice till we arrived at the office. I actually tried to call for my father before his appointment but they were out on lunch. I was not even able to leave a message to confirm his appointment. This was not the worst part of a cancelled appointed my father had been waiting 2 months for. The worst part of this experience was dealing with the administrative staff. When mentioning that my father needed his diabetes prescription the staff member could have cared less. It's clear now by the other reviews the staff at Wielenga is damaging to Dr. Wielenga's practice. read more

I am writing on behalf of my grandmother - First I would give this Dr. and staff zero stars if I could. I'm am appalled by level of unprofessionalism this place posses, from Dr. Wielenga and his incompetent staff. April and Sandra have been terribly rude (for lack of a better word) when dealing with my elderly, clearly sick, and frustrated grandmother. I have read several reviews in regards to issues like this and can see why this medical facility only has a 3 star rating. I will be urging my grandmother to file a grievance, due to all the unnecessary bullshit this place has put her through. Complete negligence; to say the least. Although I love Jacqueline the PA in this office the staff is horrible. They're very rude, they don't call you back, you'll get left on hold forever only to get attitude when they finally DO take your call. As a practice who's primary patients are seniors it makes me sad for those patients. People go days, even weeks without meds because they just aren't responsive, they don't care. Don't work in a field you have to deal with people daily if you don't like people. They either need to train their current staff better or get staff that has better attitudes. read more

Crystal the in authorizations is the absolute worse staff member I have encountered at Dr. Wielengas office. I am a disabled person and I need specific specialists. This person cannot assist me. She gets every single authorization request wrong. I have been there in person to speak to her about specific codes that are needed in the requests, she gets very upset even starts shaking she gets so upset because I show up to ask for help. I have spoken to her manager Alma and she does not help me either. My disability isn't taken seriously by this staff, the "service" I receive here is horrible. read more

Run, don't walk, AWAY from this guy! I had to beg and plead for this jerk to refer my father to Hospice Care. I called this Drs' office on several occasions and his staff insisted we bring Dad in, which was impossible, if not unreasonable. Dad was bedridden, had suffered a broken hip, with Parkinson's and post Polio patient. He was 87 yrs. old. When Dr. W. finally gave me the Hospice Referral paperwork and I contacted the Hospice office immediately, my father died approximately 48 hrs. later. If you love your parents - DON'T allow this monster near your parents. My father suffered needlessly for about 2 weeks. The heaven-sent Hospice staff & good Physician came immediately, assessed Daddy, administered one morphine drip vial, showed us how to administer the med. every 4 - 6 hrs., etc. Dad died before midnight THAT day. read more

Dr. Wielenga was my mom's family doctor for a couple of decades (or so) before she passed away last month, at age 90. I accompanied my mom to see Dr. Wielenga many times over the years and I was impressed with him and his office. My mom was a challenging patient but he took good care of her. She truly trusted him and his staff. Dr. Wielenga returned my calls, dealt with my brother from out of state, as well, due to the family dynamics. I know we were not easy. My mom was a very self-directed person and my brother and I were sometimes at odds with how to deal with her. Dr. Wielenga was always very professional and always came through for my mom's needs. As an RN for the past 31 years, and as a daughter who was also my mom's advocate, I highly recommend this doctor. read more

I come here for my annual check ups and have even come in without an appointment under certain circumstances. For example, one time I cut my arm with a piece of glass and needed stitches and the doctor stayed late to do my stitches so I wouldn't have to go to Urgent Care or the ER. Today was my appt for strep throat at 3:45pm. I was seen by a nurse practitioner and was handed a paper listing prescription.. this was my second visit to this office, so I didn't know/ remember where to turn that paper. I walked out with that to the outside reception area and asked her if this was for her.. she said this needs to be given to a lady sitting inside whose sends prescription to the pharmacy. I went inside and asked is this for you. She said "it has already been taken care for you". I walked out of the office by 4:15pm picked my son and was home by 4:30. It was almost 4:55 when I called the pharmacy and they told me my prescription request hasn't arrived and I should call the office before they close. I called office, explained my situation to the receptionist and she said she is going to transfer my call to the nurse who sends prescription out.. my call was transferred and after transfer bell kept ringing and nobody picked up. It was 4:59pm now. Called again and it went to after hour service.. I talked to the lady and explained my situation again, after few mins of hold, she apologized and said that doctor does not give prescription after hours.. I was so pissed and told her that I was given a prescription by nurse practitioner today and the nurses in the office should have a responsibility to make sure all prescriptions are sent out before they leave the office. If they can't why couldn't they just hand it to the patient to take to the pharmacy. So I decided to go to the office again to check if somebody was there after 5:00pm.. I reached there at 5:25pm went inside and found that the front desk nurse was still there.. Again I explained the whole thing over And asked if she could ask somebody to send my prescription or give it to me to take it.. she called a nurse inside and she came out after 5-10 mins, gave me my prescription and apologized saying that the prescription didn't go through first time, but has been sent now. But come on wouldn't you know if it was sent successfully or not. Is it patient's responsibility to check with pharmacy to make sure they have received the prescription from your office.. I was lucky that I went back and got the prescription, otherwise I had to wait till Monday, as was told by the lady responding to after hour service call.. definitely going to change my doctor where I can getter better service.. but they should also improve their system. Finally after dropping of my prescription at the pharmacy just to be sure, I was home at 6pm. Really disappointed with today's experience. Only the person who it happens to knows what it feels like. read more

He is very involved in their care and anytime there is a change in condition, he is more than willing to provide them with an in home visit for support during the patient's declination process. I have to agree with the others who were underwhelmed by the service provided by this office. I took my 72-year old mother for several years --much to my regret. It is clear that either this doc--and his staff--did not care about her in the least--or they are totally overwhelmed by the number of patients they have and just can't take care of important details.....[Just visit his office and you'll see how packed it is.] My mother got very bad service from this doctor....please try to avoid him !! Dr. Wielenga has been my primary doctor for years. He takes the time to listen and yes waiting can be long, but they do try and accommodate you. He's even given me my co-pay back duet to a long wait. He has nurse practitioners and they're GREAT. If you want to see Dr. Wielenga you gotta be specific and make sure you tell the person when making an appointment. If you just want to be treated quickly for flu, cold, they will get you in with a walk-in if possible, but will ask if a nurse practitioner would be okay. Staff are friendly and great with getting my prescriptions, referrals and anything else taken care of quickly. read more

I love this office! Everyone is so helpful and warm. From the moment you walk in, the front office staff greets you with a huge smile. After being forced onto MediCal and being assigned to a terrible doctor, I found this office and I was hoping that I would get a good doctor. I saw Irena for to get medicine for my migraines and she was just incredible. She was so caring and listened to me so intently. She got me on a great platform for my migraines. When I got sick a week later, Meldy was able to get me on antibiotics for bronchitis the same day. The whole office staff is so kind and caring. I'm very, very happy with them! read more

I would definitely recommend this office for your medical care. Everyone goes above beyond to help you. The staff takes their time to explains everything to you. Dr. Wielenga takes his time with you and takes his time to listen. He orders test to help you find the problem and make you better. If you have known Dr Wielenga for as long as we have you would understand the wait time. My parents are 61 and 62 years old. They have been patients of Dr. Wielenga for several years. They have followed Dr.Wielenga from all his locations and would never change. They have been cared for by Dr. Wielenga and other doctors/NP in his office. All have provided excellent care to my parents. Dr Wielenga treat us like we are family. I can say that now a days that type of care is hard to find. I have been taking my mother here for about three years now. I should have stopped taking her after the doctor could not get her diagnosis right regarding the bone infection(staf) that caused the loss of her finger. If you read my reviews you know I try to give good ones and the benifit of doubt but a warning needs to be in place in the hope that no one else should go through what I have been going through. About two weeks ago the staff called me to cancel an appointment at four pm the person old me that the doctor will no longer be making appointments at that time did I want to reschdule? well since I work on an on call basis I have to make these appointments around when I work. Today I tried to get her pain medecine refilled I called the office they told me they sent it to the pharmacy they verified the pharmacy info I then waited about an hour called the pharmacy they said it was denyed by the doctor, then the office called me and said the doctor can't give her this medicine until middle of January. The instructions on the medicine have been incorrect for a long time and I have been telling the doctor everytime we fill it but it never gets changed. I am trying real hard to keep this short and keep myself together. Just so you all know my mom is 84 years old and has dementia. She is in pain and this doctor and staff after I had a fit on the phone and begged them for help told me their was nothing they could do. THIS DOCTOR AND STAFF SIMPLY DOES NOT CARE OR HAVE COMPASSION. The soluition from the doctor is take my in pain, barely able to walk mother on new years eve to the emergency room and wait to get pain releif. read more
