Walking distance to my stay for the trip. I visited this place a few times. Lots of local elders here for morning coffee and newspapers. Friendly people to say hi to. Service is a bit slow because they are busy with few servers. Nice food and decent menu. I had quiche when i was at the sit down part of the restaurant. But i visit the bakery side often for their berliners and berry tarts. A friendly neighborhood Cafe. read more

History

Established in 1928.

Frühstück und Torten in 4. Generation Im Jahre 1928 eröffnet Adolf Otte sein erstes Frühstückslokal am Schloss Charlottenburg. Sein Sohn Paul war es, der das Gespür für Kuchen und feine Torten hatte. Ihm gelang es die Schloss Konditorei in der Otto-Suhr-Allee zu übernehmen. In den 50er Jahren schickten Paul und Ella Otte ihren Sohn Manfred in die Schweiz damit er bei den besten Konditoren Europas das Handwerk erlernen sollte. Das tat er mit Leidenschaft und sammelte danach Erfahrungen in Brüssel, Paris, Amsterdam und auf Kreuzfahrtschiffen. 1965 kehrte Sohn Manfred mit neuen Rezepten und Ideen wieder nach Berlin zurück und gründete seine erste eigene Conditorei in Neu-Westend. Diese nannte er "Wiener Conditorei Caffeehaus" - es sollten noch weitere folgen. Familie Otte hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, die Kaffeehaus Kultur in Berlin weiterhin zu pflegen und Tradition mit neuen Ideen zu verbinden. Die vierte Generation ist bereits erfolgreich im Unternehmen tätig.

Meet the Business Owner: Manfred O.

1980 eröffnete Manfred Otte ein Wiener Caffeehaus am Roseneck, das wohl bekannteste. Nach der Wiedervereinigung Berlins gestaltet er das schon damals bekannte Operncafé Unter den Linden zu einem der schönsten Grand Cafés Berlins um.

When sick, or in the afternoon on a cold day, get a fantastic hot ginger tea (order the special "Coffee Cross" Ingwertee) that comes with a spruce of mint and a squeeze of orange juice in the bottom. At lunch, there's a hot homemade oven-baked meal: vegetarian and non-veg options, just 4,50 euros and always tasty, like eating my mom's home-cooked food. The atmosphere is ideal. It's quiet and warm inside, feels like someone's living room. Outside, there's a great sunny terrace. And finally, all the staff are polite and provide great service. The main manager who greeted me many days when I was writing or working is a lovely, caring, and friendly person. We always exchange pleasantries and she always asks about my daughter.
