Drove by a couple weeks ago when I noticed strong smells of smoky barbecue. Turns out they were celebrating the World Cup finals with a "Match Day Food Fest". The local ESPN radio station was there broadcasting live while highlighting all the free samples on display. Tents were set up outside to highlight cuisines from a handful of nations, including Argentina, Brazil, France, Japan, and the US. They even had tote bags given out for the team you support. Reps for the Big Green Egg were also serving up brisket made fresh off their grills. To top it off, gift cards were given out, luring you into the store to check out all their meats and seafood in stock. While the playlist outside was thumping with beats around the world, in here they played American pop music. Five star service from the staff at the Long Beach location. Upon entering I was greeted by Stevie, who welcomed me with a smile and graciously gave me a tour of the store. Being my first time in a Wild Fork, Stevie made many recommendations on different meats, cuts, prepared items and desserts. His knowledge on the concept of flash frozen shifted my perception. Flash frozen locks in nutrients, flavor, and texture by forming tiny ice crystals that preserve cellular integrity, making food often healthier and tastier than "fresh" food that sits out. What an incredible find - this is the meat shop of my dreams. It's well laid out with reasonable prices and am extensive selection, evening from beef, chicken, pork, fish, and shellfish to things like alligator and ostrich. I was given plenty of space and time to shop, with gentle occasional check-ins from the staff. I bought a lobe of foie gras and couldn't believe it was $10. It was my first time cooking it but at that price, I was less terrified about messing it up. It turned out incredible. Wild Fork is my go-to for premium meats that are fresh and high quality. Every visit and every location, I am always satisfied with the selection of meats, poultry, and fish that they have in stock. I have been to a lot of the other locations and this one is my favorite. Make sure to check out the calendar to see when this location has events. Our last visit, they were barbecuing the skirt steak that they sell. They use the seasonings that they sell to showcase their products. The staff here are also great. The lady at the register basically knows us because we are here often and she always tells us she will see us next week every time we walk out. Great quality meats, great prices, and great service. Wild Fork, located in Long Beach, is a pretty new addition to 2nd street and Studebaker. Prices are reasonable and they have so many options for exotic meats like elk and bison, offals (organ meat), premium steak cuts (picanha, wagyu cuts, skirt steak), marinated meats, and seafood. Their meat is blast frozen after being butchered and they're stored in freezers. I think this is a pro and it's a con. The pro is that you get access to a wide variety of proteins that are preserved at peak flavor and at a reasonable price. The con is the inconvenience of having to defrost whatever you buy here for 24+ hours (if you let it defrost in the fridge). Nevertheless, I was pretty happy with being able to get a pound of picanha, 2.5lbs of chicken thighs, 2lbs of tilapia, 1lb marinated ground chicken, sticky toffee pudding, and marinated beef for tacos for ~$35. I definitely would not be able to get that type of value at Ralphs. And, if I went to costco, then I would have gotten the same type of value, but I would have spent $150 for 5x the portion size. I definitely think that Wild Fork is a meat market that I can work into my rotation! read more

I was curious about Wild Fork and found that they carry a variety of blast frozen meat and seafood, including meat and seafood that's hard to find at your everyday grocery store. You'll also find frozen vegetables, burger buns, dessert, sides, and spices. Overall, prices are comparable. I shop at Wild Fork for their wild caught seafood and have tried Sockeye Salmon, Chilean Sea Bass fish, Snapper, and Tuna. The Chilean Sea Bass was absolutely delicious. I have also tried their Bison and veggie bean burgers which were pretty good as well. In general, I'm more interested in buying organic, hormone and antibiotic free meats. Every time I go here, I am more and more impressed. Everything we get there is seriously delicious! Like even the potatoes! All they are is potatoes and oil, WHY ARE THEY SO DELICIOUS! My new favorite place to shop for meats. Some stuff here I could say is a better value than Costco because most of, if not all, of their beef is dry aged. They have many exotic meats like alligator, ostrich, veal, and others. I usually get picanha here and haven't had a bad experience yet. Watched Wild Fork being built (former Ruby's site) over the past year. I'm very excited they finally opened this week! I reviewed their online offerings to help me with my first visit. I decided ahead of time what I would purchase vs check out for the future. The store is very clean and organized. Everything (except dry spices) is nicely displayed and accessed in aisles of freezers. Organized by meat or fish types. Veggie and fruit options. And wait for it, yummy baked goods! Parking is ample and easy. I strongly recommend you read online about their freezing process. Prices are very good but don't expect "frozen" prices. Fresh frozen. Seafood often is fresh frozen and then thawed in the grocery case when you buy it "fresh". Instead, you are doing the thawing! They have a large variety of meats. Tri-tip seasoned a few different ways or plain. Skirt seasoned and unseasoned (usually I drive far for good skirt). Brisket and even flat cut brisket. Lots of seafood and shell fish. I will need to update this review after I try some of the items purchased. So far, we consumed an 8-pack of berry filled beignets. So good, just thaw and eat. Powdered sugar still intact after freezing and thawing? Amazing. I can't wait to grill up the Swordfish pieces, perfect serving sizes too! Prices are kind of high for a lot of what they offer. Their bacon is definitely meh. Won't be buying the bacon ever again. However I'm going to keep coming back for the steaks. It feels like an odd open view freezer section. Almost like you're shopping in a giant fish bowl. I have gone here a few times now. The employees if there is one around. Don't seem too knowledgeable of what they sell. They are definitely not butchers, and would not be able to answer questions like a butcher would. The food we have gotten from them though is good.
