In fact, you might not even notice it as you have your fun on C Street. I did as this is the sort of gallery I look for when I'm visiting from out-of-town. The Gallery is located on the ground floor of what looks like a 2-story house. The space consists of a big room that makes you think you've walked into an Inuit Art Gallery (with some nice Alaska-made baskets thrown in). A smaller room off the main one features local Nevada Artists. I found a nice one (Floating Horizon by Donna Nelson - who lives in the Smith Valley) at a very nice price (and framed)! The woman overseeing the place during my visit was very knowledgably about many of the pieces, and I appreciated the associated education. My only surprise was my viewing of an out-of-place "Nevada Patriots" poster featuring Mt. Rushmore, including what appeared to be the face of a very recent ex-President. Oy. I'm resigned to the fact that I now live in a Red part of the Country, but those related "shake my head" cult moments just seem to keep coming.

The classes vary widely too, it's not just painting but also includes things like mosaics, beading, collage, and so on. Finally, the place just has a great vibe - historical exhibits, pretty antiques, nice art, and nice staff.

I really enjoyed just walking from room to room hearing the floorboards creak and imagining what it must have sounded like when it was full of students and teachers. The staff member on site was very friendly and she gave us a bit of information about the school. There is a small store with trinkets and merchandise.

We visited the beautiful Catholic Church and visited with Tim who has worked at the church for about 15 years. He was very nice and has a lot of fun info on the church and town. VC is an old silver mining town and it still looks like it did way back then. Wood boardwalks through town with lots of gift shops . We visited in the off season but starting in May there are all sorts of things to go. Train rides, old time gun shows. It's definitely a tourist town but a fun one. The drive up was very pretty. Ended up at Mark Twain Saloon and it was a great stop. Great looking old bar. Bartender was fun. Had sone whisky and a beer. Visited with a couple locals and had a great time.

Recently expanded…read more It's been a year since my last visit to the Twain. My group likes it since it's a short walk from the hotel. Small locals bar with slots and machine gaming. In the last year the took over the space next door to the south. This space has a small kitchen for snacks and some gaming machines, making the original area less crowded. The old school bar and decor is a step back to days when miners would come in for a whiskey after hours of searching for silver. On non event days it's nice to enjoy the great staff. During events the Twain can be quite popular and busy.

Uniforms and the firefighting equipment used during those periods have been preserved. You can even see photos of real firefighters from back in the day. Maybe you're a bit like me. I can stare at old pictures for ages and try to imagine what everything was like back then. Yes, this museum is in a very small building and doesn't have any "hands-on" attractions. But, I believe it is a wonderful slice of Comstock history and should be savored like a fine aged wine or a valued friendship standing the test of time.
