I wouldn't recommend Wilder's Bistro to anyone. The service is slow, the food is subpar and with so many other fabulous restaurants in tow. With delicious food, friendly service and a great atmosphere, don't come here. I've been here several other times and I left so disappointed that I didn't review. I visited on a Thursday night and there couldn't have been more than 4 other tables of people at the restaurant. We were seated at 5:30 and we didn't leave until after 7:30 pm. Our server was inattentive and we constantly had empty glasses and needed refills. I ordered a side salad (pictured) and it had more bacon than lettuce. The size of the salad is deceiving, as it is served in a shallow dish. It was a good salad, but lacking in lettuce. I ordered the Aunt Ida's Mississippi Mac, which is supposed to be jalapeños, onion straws and Mac and cheese with pulled pork and drizzled with barbecue sauce. The garlic bread that is served with it was the best part of my meal. The Mac and cheese was covered in onion straws that had no flavor and the dish wasn't warm. I ate it anyway, as the server did not come back to ask how the food was. The jalapeños were also not included in my dish. The pulled pork didn't have any flavor, either. I took home about half of the meal and reheated it for lunch the next day and if it had been served hot or even warm at the restaurant, it might have been yummy. The rest of my family was not impressed either...so this was definitely our last visit. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else...

WOW! I was overly impressed with the BBQ and the tenderloin. I do a lot of bbq and have been all over trying different BBQ restraints and nothing compares to "T's" (the cooks). Ribs were thick and done perfect, brisket was tender ,and had tons of flavor! The atmosphere was not what I expected for a BBQ joint but it was super nice. Great service and overall wonderful experience.

Atmosphere: Huge wrap-around parking lot. The main entrance has a nice host station to bring you to you to your table in Wilder's Bistro or Wilder's Tapas Bar. The inside of the bistro has tables and booths, high ceilings and has a large bar area. The booths are super comfy and they have hooks across from all of them so you can put your coat up and have more room in the booth, I LOVE THIS. Service: Such friendly and professional staff. From the host to the bartenders, they have grade A people working here that know the service industry well. Food: WOW. I seriously can't get enough of the quality of food they have. The Friday perch is a MUST, the slaw that comes with it is great and so is the tartar sauce. They have super crispy french fries which I think they double fry to get them to be that perfectly crispy. The appetizers are unique to the area and I wouldn't even know which to recommend first! The fried avocado bites? The stuffed mushrooms? The mac n cheese wedges? THEY ARE ALL GREAT. This place is a one of a kind gem and I can't wait for our next visit. I'm hoping the next time we have family in town we can bring them here to show what a great business this is and impress them the way we have been impressed.

I've been here many times and apparently have never written a review. WOW. Every time. You should definitely put this on your list if you are in the area. This is one of the top 3 places in my restaurant rotation, and hands down competes for "best food in Appleton" of all the places I've been this far. I was on my own so I ate at the bar. I ordered some stuffed mushrooms and Damiens Smokehouse Melt. The mushrooms came out quick and hot. So hot in fact that I probably burnt myself a few times and had to cut them all in half and let them cool for a minute or so. If you like mushrooms you should definitely order these. If you don't like mushrooms: you should order these. They are just great (I got mine with the tomato sauce). Also, unless you are a big eater, I'd recommend bringing a friend to split these with. They are BIG. Right as I took my last bite of mushroom, a server came from the kitchen with my sandwich. So I basically just kept eating! Talk about a perfect transition. I've had this sandwich twice before, and I still had to take a moment in my first few bites to appreciate how much flavor is packed into this thing. It's just so good. 11/10 recommend. The bartender was friendly, and the environment is always pretty low key. Come here, you won't regret it

Amazing jambalaya. Fun seasonal drink menu. Good wines. Appetizers so tempting that you may just want to skip a main course.

It feels like…read morethis place wants to be upscale, but they failed on many levels, most notably the attitude of the front end staff. I could overlook or even forgive a single person who might be having a bad day, but we had negative experiences with 3 individuals. I went for dinner on a Tuesday evening with a small group of friends. We had a reservation for a table indoors, but were still considering the rooftop seating. When the first member of our group arrived, an employee was standing at the hostess stand but walked away without greeting her. It was not busy. Nobody else was waiting. She did not leave to go seat another party. She just walked away. This was the first moment of awkwardness. The menus: Before arriving, some of our group had looked at the regular menu and others had looked at the rooftop menu online. There was some confusion about why we couldn't order an item from the rooftop menu. (As I recall, the item in question was a flatbread available on the lunch menu for the regular dining room, but not on the dinner menu.) We were told that we would need to move to the rooftop if we wanted that item. Everything about the server's posture, facial expression including a visible eye roll, and even a loud sigh was very offputting from the start. We considered leaving before we even ordered our food, and in hindsight that may have been a better decision. Ultimately, we decided to stay and dine indoors, on the lower level at a table near a window looking onto the sidewalk. This may have been another mistake. It was very warm and stuffy. Even though there were only two other groups of people inside, it was so loud I could hardly hear people talking at my own table. I ordered the Agave Lime Chicken. It was good but not great. Two members of our party ordered flatbreads; two others ordered chicken tenders. This was where our evening really took a turn. On one of the flat boards used to serve the flatbread, there was a very small dead bug. It was a light gray-green color and so small that we weren't sure at first if it was a bug or a piece of some herb. We zoomed in on a phone camera and confirmed that it was indeed a dead bug. The member of our party who ordered this item had eaten one piece of her flatbread and was no longer interested in eating the rest. She did not want a box. She just wanted it taken away. The reaction of the staff was shocking. After clearing the board, one member of the staff returned and remarked that they were "still trying to find that bug." My jaw dropped at her tone - it was incredibly unprofessional. Thankfully, we had a picture. Another member of the staff came back to look at the photo as well, claiming that they could find no bug. They removed the meal from our bill, which is all I would really expect. I would still have considered returning another time if it had not been for the attitude and attempted gaslighting.

The employees were warm, friendly, and professional, and they seemed to know exactly how often to check in without interrupting our meal. We had a soda flight of their craft sodas for a super super reasonable price, and every single soda was spectacular. We're spoiled in the craft soda department by virtue of living in Wisconsin (Sprecher, Potosi, etc), but this was definitely the best craft soda we've had. Even the wacky flavors like blue raspberry were rich and flavorful--they didn't taste overwhelmingly artificial. I cannot recommend their soda enough, although I imagine their craft beer is pretty good too! We also had a delicious mocktail, which always goes a long ways in impressing us. All of our food was reasonably priced and so, so, fresh and delicious. The Bavarian pretzel with the beer cheese was heavenly!! We loved our entrees as well. Even something simple like the fries were perfectly done--fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside I don't think we could have asked for a better experience. Everything we had their was top notch, and despite the number of things we ordered, our bill was not very high at all (about $50 for a mocktail, a craft soda flight and a soda pint, an appetizer and two entrees.

We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Wednesday and were seated immediately for the two of us, which was lovely. I started with a filthy martini (one part vodka, one part olive juice)... and they nailed it. Exactly what I asked for. My mom ordered a whiskey old fashioned press, which she enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the French onion soup, deep-fried mozzarella, and bacon-wrapped scallops. My mom also had the soup of the day, which was a turkey pot pie soup. Everything was very good overall. One small note on the scallops, and this is important for context: I personally have a strong aversion to seafood, and my mom is usually careful not to order seafood around me because even the smell can make me nauseous. However, scallops are usually an exception, as they don't tend to have a strong seafood odor. In this case, there was no unpleasant smell at all, which I appreciated. That said, the scallops themselves appeared under-seared and very pale, and the bacon was undercooked. Not raw, just soft and not crispy. My mom agreed it could have used a few more minutes. A minor miss, but worth mentioning. For my entrée, I ordered the French dip, which came with carrots... and honestly, the carrots deserve their own moment. They were tiny, perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, buttery, and balanced with just the right amount of sweet and salty. I love carrots, and these were exceptional. Highly recommend. My mom ordered a Wednesday special trio, which included barbecue ribs, pineapple glazed ham, and a turkey dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I'll note that the ham itself was delicious, but the pineapple glaze wasn't quite for me personally, as it leaned a bit too tangy for my taste. That said, the turkey was phenomenal. I had a bite, and it was moist, flavorful, and absolutely something I'll come back for. The mashed potatoes and gravy were excellent. I love stuffing, but this one wasn't my favorite; it tasted slightly sour or underdone to me, though that could simply be a preference thing. I'd still order the turkey dinner again without hesitation. Because it was my birthday, our server Jenny surprised me with a slice of chocolate cake, which was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I was very full... but yes, I ate the cake, and it was delicious. We also split a Pink Squirrel for dessert, which was rich, nostalgic, and the perfect way to end the meal. Service was excellent throughout the evening. Jenny was warm, attentive, and paced everything perfectly. Food came out efficiently without overwhelming the table. The hostess was also welcoming and kind. The dining room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The lighting was just right, not too dark. We also arrived at a great time, because shortly after our entrées came out, the restaurant quickly filled up. One small suggestion: the website mentions half-price apps and drink discounts, but it isn't clear that those specials are bar-area only. Not a huge issue for us, but clearer wording online would help manage expectations, especially for guests who can't sit at high bar seating. Overall, this was a really special dinner, especially after years of hearing about the Red Ox and never going. More positives than negatives by far. Final rating: 8.5 / 10 We'll absolutely be back... especially for the turkey dinner and those carrots.
