We went to the office on Monday afternoon and were lucky to get one last free slot for next afternoon (and even that needed some special arrangements) so you better give 'em call beforehand to make sure you get time when you want.

I have to say…read morethat I can't compare with other hotels in the area since this was my first time but what i can is list the pros and cons: PROS: - extremely good deal. we paid a package price for room, demipension (breakfast and dinner) and lift tickets for a week. a very good price - the owners are a wonderful family who treated us like friends. - the breakfast buffet and the dinner (salad bar plus 3 courses which you select the night before) were very very good! (except the fondue, which was billed as a special dinner. my advice, stick with Austrian food, it is excellent) - the salad bar is great - 10 or so choices of different fresh or cooked salads, all excellent - last night's dinner had a dessert buffet, which was absolutely great - rooms are simple but comfortable, and most include a balcony with great view - free parking - located at the end of a quiet street, they have a private lake (which unfortunately is drained in winter) - 10 minutes walk to center of kirchberg - ski storage room - owners very helpful with arranging shuttle service, advising on other attractions, etc - exercise room with ping-pong table (watch out, the dutch tourists are ruthless at that) - great communication with the owners during our search for accommodations - via phone and e-mail. booked by giving credit card over the phone - walk to ski shuttle bus or drive to ski school, fleckalmbahn and a few other lifts. free parking at all of them (except in kitzbuhel). when snow is good, ski down almost to the hotel. - free wifi throughout the hotel CONS: - smoking allowed in lobby and bar - filters out to the rest of the hotel - but this being Austria, I can imagine it is the same everywhere - no toiletries are provided - small cathode tube tv - but who comes here to watch tv anyway? - drinks are not included in the package price - i guess they count on a bunch of drunks hanging out late into the night to make some money, which is completely understandable. unfortunately, after skiing 9-5 every day and having beers and schnapps at every stop, we were a 1beer/person group, except when we went drinking elsewhere apres-dinner (a few places around kirchberg are happening and Kitzbuhel's ritzy bars are just a 15 minute drive away) so they didn't make much with us :) highly recommended in Kirchberg/Kitzbuhel. Although Kitz was voted, again, as the best ski resort in the world, after spending some time on the internet we were able to book a ski vacation at half the price (including transatlantic airfare from the US) than in a nice Colorado resort. You can certainly find better slopes in Les Trois Vallees or Whistler but as an overall package (mostly helped by food, pastries and drinking), this can't be beat.

these guys know how to operate dem cables, man! from the…read morevintage gondolas to the ultramodern 20-seat on-demand cabins across a 2km valley, this is a top notch lift operator. wifi is provided for free at a few of the lifts (albeit with an annoying login process required every time), their maps are very clear and accurate, the online lift status is swiss-like... with the exception of one single lift, there was no wait at all during my weeklong ski vacation, an incredible feat in the world's #1 ski resort. Their foray into the world of online app geotracking, automated picture taking and crowdsourced competion needs a little more work (compared to say Epic's colorado resorts install) but works decently, just needs more coverage and timed race courses.

An absolute must stay if you're in Saalbach!

Location is very good for anyone who wants to…read morespend time on the slopes - Schattberg Xpress station is ~100m away, slope #1 ends just in front of the hotel (take right turn before pedestrian bridge, you can ski down to the pathway on next to river). You can get to Kohlmais side by using small lift on the training slope behind the hotel. No need to carry equipment across the city. You can also use training slope to get back to hotel easily. Rooms are small but hey - you are here to spend time on the slopes! Unfortunately rooms have shared balconies. Rooms have safety deposit boxes (which is not so common on this sizedmhotels in Austria). Breakfast was good. Only issues we had was with cleansity. Towels looked few times like they were just lifted from the floor and not replaced. Also, after first day we went and bought our own soap and shampoo as it seemed that those were portioned :) Nice stay. Last time spend more than double money staying in Saalbacher Hof, no need for such when you just want to spend as much time as possible in the slopes. Recommended if you don't want to splurge.

Great bar and very centrally located in the centre of town within walking distance to the ski lifts. Ski school and rentals are right across from the hotel and super convenient. You can also get your ski passes directly from the hotel reception. Certainly a favourite with myself and our family friends.

Came here for the Snowbombing event in April. It was sunny and warm and you can ski in a long…read moresleeve t-shirt. Awesome! The hotel was clean, good design and ample space. The owners are extremely meticulous. No detail missed. They really take excellent care to make sure it is neat and clean and you can tell they really put a lot of care into the grounds and gardens. The hotel is recently renovated in classic alpine style, rooms are basically a full apartment w/ kitchen. They have a great spa/ sauna area with three different saunas including the very healthy infrared sauna that they overcharge you in the states for. The spa is basically yours because nobody is ever there so you feel like the whole spa is yours to enjoy, and it is very well done and relaxing w/ large showers and sitting area. The one bad part is they close it up at 8pm. Why I have no idea the only people using it are the few that are staying in the hotel. They try to save on everything here so i'm sure it has something to do w/ conserving energy and keeping the costs down. When you are on vacation though its kind of a bummer. Putting hotel in the name is a bit deceiving, it is not a hotel and more like a bed and breakfast. The owners live on the top floor and you feel you are staying in someones home, the place has four floors all with large rooms, great for families or groups as you can really save some money by having that full kitchen (no oven). They serve continental breakfast every AM till 11am. Its ok. You don't need much before going on the slopes anyway. That is all they serve. After that you are on your own. No room service, no stumbling back drunk for a late night snack. In fact you pretty much go in and out likes its your own house. You never even see anyone at the counter and god forbid you may need them to call a taxi for you or make reservations because you don't speak German, you will need to call upstairs, wait for them to come down and then have to hear them say what can I help you with i'm cooking. LOL! This is the reason I rated it a three. Great place if you don't care about the additional services that the hotels offer. Well located and picture perfect views of the beautiful Zillertal valley. Easy walk to Hippach and Ramsau. Oh yeah and I almost forgot the best feature of all it sits right behind the main lift - Penken - ski in ski out. That does it for me.... oh yeah and the hotel does offer boot and ski storage w/ boot warmers so your boots are warm, dry and toasty every morning. Great price @ like $100 bucks a day and we were two but the room can sleep four, plus full kitchen. May or may not stay here again.... I am undecided as I found another hotel called The Elizabeth and they cook their guests dinners every night and have a fab restaurant called Mamma Mias, Yum! after a long day on the slopes there is nothing like a nice home cooked meal.
