It's great for families and we came with our 9 year old who gave the cheese pizza two thumbs up. We ordered the market fish, which was sea bass, the mushroom angoliotti and the beef tartare. It was all so fresh and flavorful without being stuffy. The mushroom pasta was probably the best pasta dish I've ever eaten. The prices are also great considering the caliber of food. This is my fourth time at Wildland and it never disappoints! First off, my friend and I were feeling indecisive so our waiter started us off with some delicious sparkling wine and crispy cabbage! He was very kind and accommodating and making sure to give us time to decide what we want but also providing something for us to enjoy on the house. We ate our appetizer slowly and the waiter made sure to keep our dishes warm until we were ready for them which was great. We shared the casarecce pasta and the lamb meatballs and both were very delicious. I especially loved how the flavor of the lamb was showcased in the lamb meatball dish - definitely one to try if you like lamb! Portions were good and the price is fair in my opinion. We strolled in for a late lunch. This is a pretty cool space. It's a more industrial Bottega Louie in looks, but with a menu that's a little more condensed. It feels a lot like mornings at République. We picked some random items and found a communal table to chill at. They have a self-service station for water, water glasses and takeout boxes. A bar for wine-based cocktails. Pro-tip: the bar will take your order for more drinks and dessert so you don't have to get back in the line by the door. That line is known to go out the door. Very green salad with smoked salmon, mafaldine, roasted chicken. The mafaldine was the only clunker...great pasta texture, but the sauce was muted and bland. The garlic sauce and chili oil with the chicken was great. That bread with the chicken deserves a callout too...super flavorful focaccia. The breakfast was so delicious -- do not miss trying the breakfast sandwich; so flavorful and substantial. The avocado toast was also nutritious, plus the guanciale is a nice touch. My only wish is that the cold brew was served fresh and not from cans. I know it's from steady state right next door so I would've assumed they'd be freshly brewed. The restaurant itself just opened in December of 2024 and since then it has been getting rave reviews. Most of the buzz is about the brunch since there is an in-house bakery. However, we went for dinner. There is only street parking. The restaurant is a somewhat industrial looking rectangular building from the outside, but the front yard is full of tables. It looks inviting, but sort of natural minimalist. Inside the building it goes pretty deep and the ceilings are high so even though it has a lot of tables and is really busy, it does not feel claustrophobic. We each started off with a cocktail. Keeping it classic with an old fashioned. It was a good, classic old fashioned. No unique twist or variation on the flavor profile. But classic is good. For an appetizer we shared the smoked fish plate. There is an option to choose 3 varieties of fish or 6. We went with the 3. We chose Steelhead Gravlax, Olive Oil Poached Yellowtail, & Hot Smoked Pastrami Kampachi. The fish was served with 2 pieces of their in-house made sourdough, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and Labneh. My fav was the yellowtail as it didn't have a strong flavor but felt fresh and bright. The pastrami kampachi was good too. The pastrami flavor on the fish actually reminded me of a bbq brisket crust. The gravlax was still good but my least fav of the three and was a lot stronger of a flavor. My BF preferred the gravlax over the other 2, so I think all were done well. It's just your personal preference. For dinner my BF had the Spaghetti. The dish was served with Clams, in a sauce with Nduja, White Wine & Garlic. I tried the noodles in the sauce and it was very good. Hint of heat but really nice and balanced. My BF loved it. I had the Casarecce served with Fennel Sausage and Calabrian Chili. I really enjoyed it. Again good balance of heat. The sausage was flavorful. We definitely want to come back. The menu has a number of other dishes that looked good including the sourdough pizzas. I have my eye on the cacio e Pepe pizza. One odd things was, we asked if they had heaters for the outside seating. They said the put them away for the summer. It is June, I wonder if they have been around coastal San Diego with outdoor dining as San Diego tends to like to enjoy their heat lamps all year around. Especially at night. The cashier walks away immediately after he asked for my order to o talk to someone from the kitchen and returned looking at me like why are you here. I went to the counter and asked to take my coffee that was right there and they wouldn't let me take it. They made me go sit down and wait. My food arrived at the same time as the coffee. They give you a number and bring the food to you. The restaurant takes reservations. I've visited twice without it and found their service efficient. Beverages: Paloma - This is presented with crushed iced and the drink is divine. I can see why this is a popular drink. Black Tea - Refreshing and tasty. Main & Salad: Margherita Pizza - Perfect in every bit. If you're a Margherita Pizza fan I highly recommend you try this. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Smoke Fish Plate - I really enjoyed the assortment along with the pickled veggies with the hummus. Malfadine - simple, tasty, and fresh tasting pasta! Chicken Plate - Perfectly roasted with a tasty garlic sauce and chili oil on the side. Very Green Salad - Love the green sauce on this. The veggies were fresh. Dessert: Walnut Date Tart - If you like a rich nutty slightly dense tart this is for you. Pistachio Tiramisu - My favorite! The pistachio added the perfect crunch against the pillowy layers of the tiramisu. I love the flavor of this. Chocolate Hazelnut Cake - Rich chocolate. Moist texture. The frosting tastes like Nutella. Delicious. There's public parking available across the street with a huge lot and my friends who parked on the street had no issues finding spots as well, on a Saturday. Their staff is friendly and efficient. We arrived at Wildland around 4:00 for our 4:30 reservation, grabbed drinks at the bar while waiting for the kitchen to open, and took an outdoor table since we had our dog. At 4:30 we checked in with the host stand and confirmed our table was okay, but despite this we sat for about 30 minutes without being acknowledged while nearby tables received service. After checking again 2 more times between 4:45-5:15, it still took another 15 minutes before our server approached and oddly opened with, "I heard you guys wanted to order some food?". She didn't explain the menu or anything so we ended up panic ordering. We honestly should have left prior to this but we were settled in with our drinks from the bar and also had our dog with us so it would have been a hassle to go elsewhere and we were also really excited to dine here. There were no check-ins during the meal and we had to flag someone down for the check. It felt like she didn't want to serve us for some reason, or maybe thought we just sat there without a reservation, but we made sure everything was good with the host 3 separate times. We had a party of 4 and our check was on the higher side, so it felt odd that we were being treated weirdly by the server. Everyone raves about this place but from what I can tell from the couple times I've been here is that their cocktails are severely overpriced snowcones with barely have any liquid in them, there's no consistency to their recipes - go one night and get a certain dish then go the next night and get the same exact dish, it's completely different. The actual food is fine - nothing that I'd rave over. The wait staff can't read the room, they interrupt abruptly and quite literally mid sentence with little regard to what's happening at the table, we were all joking about it because it felt like every time someone was in the middle of speaking about something important, our guy would just barge in so loudly with a pointless question that definitely could've waited. The ambience is nice, I don't really care for the dirt floor in the front, be careful with nice shoes - but we can't have everything. Everyone says to come in the morning for the bakery and coffee, so maybe that's the play here. As it stands, it's overpriced and underwhelming in my book. read more

This place just did not thrill me. Came here for my birthday dinner and left rather disappointed. Food was mid. Flavor profiles did not work for me. Value not there (compared to what I can get at the same price point elsewhere especially). Our sourdough bread was pretty hard and not enjoyable. The rosemary ciabatta was good though. The chicken soup was lackluster and honestly left a bad taste that I wanted gone after each bite. Tried to doctor it up with salt and pepper and that didn't even help. Chicken in it was questionable too. There was something off with the flavors (or lack thereof) in it. Pastas were meh. The malfadine was flat in taste and the noodles were slightly overcooked. Bucatini I can't provide an as-is review because we got it without the bottarga which took away the salty element of the dish but what we did have was also was not very good. Like I understand it's lemon based but like I was hoping for a more creamy/cheesy-lemon flavor. We were going to order more food but determined it was not worth it after what we had eaten already and decided to cut it early here. My glass of wine was my favorite part of the entire meal sadly. Not a very good birthday celebration overall. Staff was pretty friendly but just not very warming and it just too way too long between interactions to get things. Aesthetically this place was super cute. Modern design but the entire place just lacked warmth imo (tbh this opinion could have been skewed because of the food and service experience). Definitely felt like the "chow hall" vibes which is cool but not worth it when thinking about the pricing here. I'd give a 2/5 if just rating the food but will do 3/5 just because they didn't do anything outlandishly wrong, just had very underwhelming food and service. Very impressed with this new spot. We went on a weekday for breakfast and it still had a good amount of people. The wait to order took a while but once we got to the front the staff was incredibly friendly and the food came out in a timely manner. The interior is gorgeous, sleek and what I see more in LA compared to San Diego. We tried the breakfast sandwich, smoked salmon tartine and puffed rice bowl. Came for a lunch outing for my birthday and we were able to order and sit down immediately. The space itself is very nice and I really liked the overall ambiance. The quarter bird plate was decent and the accompaniments helped boost the flavor. The nduja pizza was really good and I enjoyed the softness of the crust. The fennel and oregano were nice additional touches that added both a slight texture and herbal bite. The pizza sandwich was interesting. It's essentially a sandwich that uses pizza dough as its bread. Between the mortadella and egg, it has more of a breakfast sandwich flavor-profile which I wasn't necessarily expecting. But the best dish was definitely the Mafaldine! The tomato-marjoram butter sauce was addicting and so flavorful. You get a great unctuousness on the lips and each bite with the tomato was such a nice balance of acid and brightness that was very addicting. I drove all the way down from the OC through hellish Oceanside traffic. The restaurant was quite busy for Friday before 6pm, so make sure to get your reservation in. The service was pretty great though lagging after things started picking up after 6pm. Most of the food was enjoyable: Maitake mushrooms: perfectly roasted with a delicious Parmesean sauce Cabbage: had a similar sauce as the mushrooms, nicely charred though didn't care about the ribs and innards of the cabbage Ricotta anglotti: well-textured pasta with herbs and a broth, the chopped pork was not salty--this heavily lacked a salty element that should have come from the pork, the broth was flavorless Kid's cheese pizza: very huge for $12, more chewy than I would prefer compared to NY style but good cheese Pork secreto: pork had a roasted flavor, I enjoyed the sauce with this dish The cocktails and NA drink were also delicious. Burrata is $14 for two pieces of thick cut, house made toasted bread, with one piece of prosciutto each. The toast was a little burned as well. My hanger steak was cooked to an excellent medium rare temperature, but as a dish, it felt incomplete. Just a protein with a lemony vinaigrette and julienned celery stalk and leaves left me thinking this should be accompanied by something more. My wife's spaghetti and clams (not pictured) were okay, but she said it was a little too spicy. The dining room was half empty. We were seated outside according to what we booked but it was so hot and sunny. We checked again and they said they moved some reservations around and were able to seat us inside. We were grateful that they did because it was extremely sunny outside. But with a half empty dining room for the entire period we were there (90-100mins) it felt like they could have done that at the begining. Food: Was mid/average. It's good quality food but it's definitely not the best or great in terms of what we've had at the same price point. We got the margh pizza, sauce good but lacks cheese and bread was mid. We didn't get the bread/butter to start. Green goddess salad was good, we added protein but both chicken and fish felt really bland and not fresh/cold. This restaurant is a true treat. From m the outside you wouldn't know if you are at the right place. Inside, incredible baked goods, fresh juices, delightful coffees, and the food itself was really good. The breakfast sandwich was incredible and the French toast is photo worthy as well as scrumptious. We were a group of 9 and everyone was very impressed. What a great addition to Carlsbad! Everything we ordered was great, but my personal favorite was the Mafaldine. Everything was so fresh and flavorful, I cant wait to come back to try more of their menu. Service was great, and the vibes on the patio were excellent!
