I have three kids, and with our first child we used a different instructor who mostly just provided behind-the-wheel time with very little actual instruction. The difference with William was night and day. A friend recommended William when our second child was ready to learn, and I am so grateful they did. He takes time before and after each lesson to explain techniques, review what was practiced, and clearly outline what to work on next. He truly prepares students for the driving test, including sharing specific insights into what test administrators are looking for. Because of his thoroughness and thoughtful approach, I feel completely confident recommending William--even to my most selective friends. Upon reading his wonderful reviews on Yelp, I decided to take a lesson from William, which was interesting and unfortunately unpleasant, for the following reasons: 1. He and his car heavily smelled of cigarettes. It was pretty dirty and not a good place to be stuck for 2 hours, even with an open window. 2. He is quite impatient, tense, and he has scolded me a couple of times for non-critical mistakes, which increases one's stress and doesn't help at all. For example: He said something like "he'll do x, y," and I said "Who? The DMV professional?" instead of saying DMV examiner. He got visibly upset, saying with a raised voice "Yeah of course they are professionals"...Like dude chill, I forgot the correct term was DMV examiner and said professional instead. How is this a big deal... 3. For a full two hour-long lesson, we only did left and right turns. No lane changes, no backing up etc. which gave me the impression that it'd be a longer learning period compared to other instructors. I looked up driving lesson videos and noticed people learning a lot more even in the first class. After finding a Daly City driving school's Youtube page and seeing the fullness of their first class content, I decided to book with them. My first lesson was a lot more different, much more practice of different scenarios, and practicing the routes. They were more patient and provided tips and tricks. After working with them, I passed the driving exam on the first try. If you're coming into this process with nerves and looking for a stress-free learning experience, this unfortunately isn't it. We recommend William without reservation! Our 17 year old son returned from his first session with William MUCH more confident in driving. Once we scheduled his behind-the-wheel test, William worked with us to schedule our final 2 sessions (one session about a month before the test to assess his skills, then one session the day before the test to practice around the Daly City DMV). Our son passed on his first attempt! William is pleasant and easy to work with, and responds by text within a few hours. When my daughter received her learner's permit, I planned to contact William to teach her but she insisted on trying her friend's driving instructor. Since my children have different learning styles, we gave the other guy a try. However, as we practiced with her, it seemed like her foundation wasn't as strong as what my son learned from William. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WILLIAM TO BE YOUR DRIVING INSTRUCTOR! I PASSED MY BEHIND THE WHEEL TEST IN DALY CITY ON MY FIRST TRY! I was looking for a driving instructor here on Yelp last August 2021 because I wanted to take my behind the wheel test ASAP. Out of all the driving instructors/schools I messaged for an inquiry, William was the one who responded quickly. I saw his yelp reviews & they were mostly positive feedbacks. There were some driving instructors/schools who responded to me but they charge at an expensive rate compared to William. He charges at an affordable price, 120 USD for 2 hours of driving lesson (I think his rate depends on the location though). I reached out to him to set up an appointment for a driving lesson. I originally had my behind the wheel test appointment at Redwood city on September 23, 2021 but he recommended some place where I can easily pass the test. Daly city was one of them. I told him I was kind of hesitant to take the test in Daly city because I have heard some rumors that it is hard to pass there & the roads are scary(steep/uphill/downhill). He mentioned that it's actually harder to pass in Redwood city if you are not 100 percent confident in driving around an area which has a lot of 4-way stop signs. So, I had to re-think about that. Lol We had a driving lesson last September 18, 2021 for 2 hours. He has a great approach. He picked me up and dropped me off at my address. He asked me first if I have a background in driving and then he gave an orientation inside his car. I appreciate that he used a white board and "toy cars" to help discuss the rules of the road. Also, he used an iPad to show pictures of actual signages that he took on the road. It's very helpful especially if you are a visual learner. We then proceeded to drive. He taught me a lot of things to pass the road test and on how to be a safe driver. After our first driving session, he asked me if I wanted to take the test in Daly City. I told him the earliest appointment in Daly City is on November 2021 and I want to take the test ASAP due to my work schedule. He said "Do not worry! I can get you an appointment." Later that night, he called to let me know he set up a behind the wheel appointment already at DMV Daly City today (September 20, 2021). I don't really know how he did it but I am grateful because he went out of his way to squeeze me an appointment in DMV Daly City. We practiced for another 1.5 hrs a day before my driving test because he wanted to make sure I pass my road test. (He wants the best for his students, trust me !) I'm telling you guys, if you are looking for a sign on who to hire as your driving instructor, contact William now! He is really nice. He complimented me occasionally which is really uplifting. Every time I made mistakes, he would just advice me on what to improve and how to improve it. He helped me build my confidence in driving. He can accompany his students to their driving test day and let them use his car, but unfortunately, he already had a prior commitment today (September 20, 2021) with another student. He linked me up with another person though who could accompany me in the day of my test and he took care of everything. He still made sure i get to take my BTW test today. Much love for William Awesome Teacher. Supportive motivator. Especially patient. Clear and concise communicator. Overall, a positive driving guidance experience. I am a young adult student (early 20s) with very little driving experience. Born and raised in San Francisco, a city with really great light rail services and walking distances. I'm moving to LA to finish college, and I definitely need to know how to drive around there. Driving has always been intimidating for me, but thankfully I had William as my instructor. I've taken two lessons from William. The first time, I was clearly not confident, yet, with Williams words of encouragement, I was able to drive on the freeway. After about a month of not driving my test was coming up and i was feeling unprepared. He actually offered to help me out a little by giving some extra time and ended up passing on the first try. Very pleasant but didn't give me much feedback. I did a lesson with William recently. He was very kind but didn't give me much feedback at the end. I would have appreciated if perhaps he could have pulled me aside and given me guidance at points throughout the two hour lesson and then perhaps after as my goal is to pass my driving test. Excellent instructor! I cannot recommend more. He is professional. During my first class, he explains all the intersection rules so clearly and he also makes sure that I know how to handle the real situations when I face it. He makes it really clear what to do during different traffic situations. This is actually the main reason I am no longer hesitant when I drive on the road because I know I can handle it. He is patient and calm and he is always on time for his class and he won't pick up his cell phones during the class, he is 100% focusing on your driving. When I has difficulty with certain road section, he will first explain to me with drawing what I should do to improve and let me repeat driving on that part. He makes good use of my time, if I manage to drive certain places with no mistakes, he will not waste my time. He will take me to experience different road sections to face new challenges. What distinguishes an excellent instructor from a mediocre one is that the former will cater to your learning style. He finds out my problems immediately and he provides solutions to them. I am a nervous driver and drives slow so he asks me to drive on highway. After that, speed is never a problem. I am immediately comfortable with speed. He makes driving no longer stressing for me anymore. I have a stressful time schedule and he arranges around me timetable. He let me know how many lessons I need before passing my test. I read the ratings prior to choosing this instructor. My daughter came from out of California from College. This instructor was told that my daughter had minimal training and would also need lessons prior to the driving test. William initially agreed to provide lessons for my daughter. He stated all she needed was 2 lessons and then the test. This instructor was extremely impatient, spoke very quickly, difficulty to understand, and my daughter was very overwhelmed after each 2 hour lesson. Suffice it to say, he continued to make her believe she was "a fast learner", "capable of passing the test", however the day before the exam he said he was "frustrated" and didn't want to take her to the lesson any longer, as we had questions about the driving process. This instructor continuously focused on getting paid, and making money. He asked my daughter repetitively during the lessons "tell your mother to have the check ready". JUST AWESOME! Why? 1. Professional: I wished I have found William when my first kid was learning to drive. That's how I know William is a GREAT instructor. He is patient, calm, actually teaches road safety, driving techniques and point out some common traffic mistakes new drivers often do. William is sensitive to our COVID comfort and take safety seriously by always wearing a mask even though CDC rules are relaxing due to high vaccination rate. I appreciate that he still takes the extra measure to make his client feel comfortable. 2. Timely: William was always on time starting and ending the lesson. He is a busy teacher, yet he was always courteous and took the time to return my call/text and answer any questions I had after he finished his lessons. 3. Honest: William was honest by explaining to me the different rates his company charges based on location (that wasn't the case for my first kid who used a different instructor). By our third 2 hour lesson, William was able to give us an assessment on whether my kid will be ready to go take the driving test or need more lesson. In summary: my second kid passed the behind the wheel test on the first try and we are VERY happy with William. I wished I had found him for my first kid who had to take the test multiple times-due to an instructor who didn't prepare and communicate important information to us and just can't teach.
