I've stayed at Hilton Newcastle Gateshead three times now, and it appears that little has changed since my first stay back in 2017, the room appeared to be outdated in terms of the overall decor. There were also no bedside plug-sockets. I also had an issue with comfort in my room as the desk chair was uncomfortable, as were the pillows, the latter I did speak to the staff and ask if they had any alternative, to which they replied, "No, sorry" Noise is also an issue throughout the hotel, with corridor noise pretty much all the time, housekeeping would also start very early, adding to the noise issues. It didn't feel well insulated; I could also hear passing trains, all within my room. The corridors were also poorly insulated; I ended up hearing what sounded like a couple having sex when walking through to my room. The Air Conditioning in the hotel was also an issue; it would appear to be running all the time, so it would make a small amount of noise even when turned off. Every time I would open or close the door to my room, it would come on in full again, and there was no override the staff also told me they couldn't do anything about it. The standard of housekeeping was also poor, despite having the "service please" sign on my door, no one ended up coming to my room on my first night luckily, they have housekeeping on until just before 830 pm, so I was able to get my room cleaned after requesting it, but I did have to take another trip out of my room when I didn't plan on it. Housekeeping would also fail to wash or replace drinking glasses in my room, and on one occasion, they left me without any flannels and toilet paper. Cleanliness also could have been better as I found long black hair in the bath when arriving at the hotel. The service also seems to be poor. I did not feel valued as a Gold Hilton Honors member, as I was not given an Executive Floor / Lounge upgrade on this occasion, and the staff were also rude when I asked for a late check-out. They told me they would only be able to grant this on the morning of check-out rather than the night before, after insisting multiple times I wanted a late check-out to sleep in, they did grant me until 1 pm. On my most recent stay, I used the car park, the rates are reasonable at £15 per night with in/out privileges. They ended up taking two payments of £45 to cover the three nights, one as a card hold, one as an actual payment - this meant I had to wait for 30 days for the charges to be manually reversed by my bank from my debit card - again this felt unnecessary how they'd charge me twice and just blame it on the automated systems. The lift in the underground car-park was out of order, meaning I had to carry my heavy suitcase up a flight of stairs. The room rates were certainly reasonable, but given the amount of work this hotel needs, I hope they can give the property the much-needed help and refurbishment it needs to bring back the standards it once had. 2*

Business travelers will find A full health club, a great English pub, a Starbucks and a Buca di Beppo in the lounge of this 3-story facility. If you haven't been to Europe, there are a few oddities you might never have experienced. First, there are no key cards here. You get a real key with an odd looking keychain. The chain acts like a master switch to the lights and TV. SO if you arrive at night and the door slams shut, you will be truly groping in the dark and wondering why the light switch does not work.. If this happens, open the door to the hall to let light in the room. Find the "thingamajiggy" on the wall and insert your key chain. Now flip on the switches. Newcastle can be fairly dark and the lighting is still pretty dark. Make sure you also turn on each outlet. No doubt after a long travel your phone might need charging and you don't want to find out that your phone is not charging just because you didn't flip the switch. The room is large enough and the bathroom is a decent size with heated towel racks. The gym is full service and very popular in the area. You will find many of the locals coming and going after work. Also the restaurant and pub are well utilized every day of the week. The Victory pub is probably where you would want to eat as service is a little faster and you can get more local fare. We ate at Buca di Beppo one night for variety and comfort food one night. The dishes were basic but different from the American menus. Highly recommend if you are strictly here for business and will not need to be in downtown Newcastle.

The hotel itself is a bit of a mixed bag, the ground floor reception area with bar & restaurant feels quite modern (I figured it must've had a recent refit) but the rooms were starting to show their age. The bathroom in my room in particular was looking a bit rough around the edges. The room was warm & fairly quiet, facilitating a fairly sound sleep, although there was some noise creeping in from surrounding rooms. There were signs stating they offered WiFi throughout the hotel, but I didn't use it. The health club looked fairly modern & there seemed to be a good number of locals using it. Despite the hotel being full over the weekend, the staff throughout where very friendly & helpful, they really did give a great account of themselves. All in all this was a decent, if short, visit to the hotel. I'd struggle to recommend the hotel to visitors simply because of its location, but if you were visiting the business park for work then I'd say you're best to stay here.

Food was pretty good considering it looked as though all the function rooms and bedrooms were fully booked! The bedroom in the old castle was amazing, high ceiling, 4 foot thick walls, a high comfortable bed, well equipped bathroom, all in immaculate order. Wonderful evening, good accommodation, great food. If you can get a good deal then make sure you go - or if you want to impress American visitors! We'll be back. :-D

As must be expected, it's expensive, but for a special occasion is worth it. For a quirky edge, they run 'Tudor Banquets', where parties sit in the great hall, at long tables, hosted by the staff in full costume, telling jokes and plying people with mead. It's a veryrare experience. I recommend it for large groups of friends who could lose themselves in the bizarreness of the situation and just get it. Because it is, and it's meant to be, very funny.

The staff mention that next year it will be renovated to be a five-star hotel with a rooftop restaurant, and fitness center. Overall a great stay in Newcastle with all the convenience around us. The 4th floor double room I was in (which was a huge bed, made of two twin beds pushed together) was quiet and very comfortable, with a work desk, an armchair, a flat-screen TV, plus a small bath and shower in the decent-sized bathroom. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the main hub-bub of Newcastle City Centre, and is in a quiet location. The staff were efficient, if not overly friendly. I did raise an eyebrow at the burly security staff who were on duty in reception late on Friday night. They were there to prevent drunks and stragglers, but as a resident, I felt a little intimidated at their attitude towards me as a guest when I returned to the hotel. The need for security could be better balanced with a friendly (rather than just perfunctory) attitude towards guests. Overall, this was a good place to stay for a business trip. It's a Premier Inn in everything but name (even the Wi-Fi retains the Premier Inn naming!) and the rates are very reasonable.

The rooms are spacious and well equipped but my 3rd floor room did not have a good bathroom. Shower was underpowered and in a very slippery bath with a shower curtain. Not ideal as shower curtains are not what I expect in a high end hotel, while the bath is pretty dangerous and I would be concerned for older guests stepping out. In addition some tiles were missing above wash basin. Breakfast consisted of hot and cold buffet and was very good. So some hits and misses but location was a winner.

Not really any made-to-order options. For England, the price was moderate. If you're converting from dollars, it's going to sting a bit, but that's the case in the entire country.

Very large desk area with long strip lights, easy to hook up the laptop to the TV for dual screen working. The breakfast buffet was quite standard, but with made-to-order Belgian waffles which was a really nice special touch. Sadly the restaurant that I was looking forward to eating at, was closed on arrival. Apparently the hours have been reduced lately due to lack of demand, which I quite understand all things considered. The receptionist was very good with nearby recommendations, including several in the new development mini-mall which is just across the bridge from the hotel.
