I personally wouldn't come here at night or alone as the many large old trees is a good or not good hiding spot for shady do no good characters but during the day it's ok and having a carry permit doesn't hurt . The many dogs I see doing the walk along the path seem to like this dog park and with a little major NYC parks renovation I bet us dog owners and walkers will also .

I like the dirt ground, the overturned tree barks, etc. My dog seemed to really find all of that interesting and kept trying to jump and climb over everything. There were two water bowls, one in the small dog area and another in the large dog area. There was a gallon of fresh water provided in the small dog area which was super helpful. Not sure if the park staff leave it there regularly or not. My only critique is the janky locks for the gates, but it still remained quite safe, I didn't feel like my dog would be getting out so nothing to take away from the rest of the experience. I enjoyed it, my dog enjoyed it and he made some new friends. I say it's worth a shot to check it out if you're nearby to the area. We were originally going to Ewen Park, but I actually found this one to be way better and easier to get to. My guess is that they've made some improvements since the last Yelper's review so I wanted to take some time to hopefully provide an update. :)

We decided to in we got to the gate & as we were opening it the pitbull attacked our little dog. My daughter quickly picked her up & the pitbull went after my daughter luckily she closed the gate quickly. All three of us were shaking. The exercising idiot did nothing, he didn't intervene nor did he apologize. This is a dug run, it isn't for male adults to show off his muscles when there a women around. We never to our dog there again. We take her on walks in the park but never to the park.

Free parking. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. began acquiring private parcels in 1917 as part of his vision of developing a beautiful park with majestic views of the Hudson River and Palisades for the public. Rockefeller gifted the land to the City of New York in 1931, and construction began soon after. The park is about 70 acres in area. Decades after its creation, park goers can run or walk on the park's 8 miles of pathways, play on the lawns, and enjoy the city's largest garden with unrestricted public access, the Heather Garden. We saw tons of nice flower beds and blooming plants. Fort Tryon Park is home to the Cloisters (separate Yelp review), a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that houses nearly 5,000 medieval works in a building comprised of several structures from Europe. Fort Tryon Park is home to Manhattan's largest dog run, complete with a gazebo for dog owners to sit and socialize, as well as two playgrounds, volleyball courts, and built-in ping pong tables. The pristine views of the Hudson River make the park the perfect setting for exploring, meandering strolls, and picnics. The George Washington bridge can be seen from one of the vintage points.
