I've been trying to get my daughter to check out the Urbana farmer's market since last year. She…read morenever got up early enough to make it. I was on campus this past Saturday. We were planning on doing something else, but decided to stay in the C-U area so we didn't get to the market until 11:30, they close at noon. Some vendors were packing up and some sold most of their goods. Since we weren't planning on going to the farmer's market, I had already purchased a bunch of produce and meat for her at Whole Foods. I wish I hadn't. The produce at this market looked so good. They had good amount of produce and meat vendors. Prices seemed very reasonable. They had vendors that sold baked goods, jewelry, bags, soap,etc. The downside for students is the distance from campus and hours. I told my daughter she should coax a friend with a car to go with her. We were hungry and decided to check out a food truck. I don't know if there are usually more food trucks, but there were only 2 when we were there. The home football game may have effected the number of trucks. We chose Piato. I opted to try the farmers breakfast sandwich and my daughter tried the Carolina pulled pork sandwich. She wanted biscuits and gravy, but the ran out of biscuits. I enjoyed my sandwich. It was on sourdough bread, fried egg, cheddar and sausage. I liked it wasn't greasy. My daughter enjoyed the pulled pork. She even liked the cole slaw that came on top of the sandwich. She chose the bourbon sugar bbq sauce and said it was really good. We also got a fresh squeezed lemonade. We didn't enjoy that as much. We think it may have been sweetened with stevia. My son and daughter-in-law just got married there, and it was truly a fairy-tale wedding. We were able to use the house to get ready and keep our personal items, and he was quick to respond to any questions or concerns. When the big moment arrived, guests were in awe at the beauty of the chapel area and reception room. The service was impeccable, and when guests spilled or created a mess, Dan himself responded immediately to keep the area clean, safe, and presentable. We had a beautiful moment after the dancing started... Dan opened the large back doors to reveal the sunsetting over the fields, and there was a collective "wow" by all the guests. Over the course of the afternoon and evening, we had guests taking pictures on the property, playing bags in the field, enjoying drinks on the grounds, eating, and dancing. Not one guest had a negative comment. Everything was absolutely perfect! Thank you Dan and Hudson Farm staff for making this day everything my family hoped it would be. The facility is very clean and spacious with high ceilings, and they have it beautifully set up with nice lighting. There was plenty of room for our buffet, table seating for everyone to sit down for dinner, the 360 photo booth that we rented, the bar, and the dance floor. Though everything inside the reception barn is picture perfect, when Dan opened the barn door at about 7:00 pm, all of the guests were blown away. We had a perfect evening with pleasant temperatures and a gorgeous sunset, and it became and indoor / outdoor event in a beautiful pastoral setting. The graduates and their families had such a fantastic time in a unique setting that made for a night we will never forget. Dan was so easy to work with and he and his staff worked so hard behind the bar to provide excellent service. Highest praise for Hudson Farms - its a gem. You will not be disappointed.
