A Dutch woman in Ireland making Gouda cheese? Who would've thunk it! But my oh my what a delicious, informative and fun experience it is to go visit and buy some of the best cheese I've ever had. I'm no cheese expert, but a cheese lover. So that has a bit of weight, doesn't it?
So I have to start out by saying that is a strictly part time job for the superstar proprietor Wilma. Not only does she make the cheese, she milks the cows that make the milk and grows the hay for said cows! It's open primarily during in summer, with limited hours, So you need to call her to make an appointment. But for us she was able to be there in 10 minutes. And then, without even asking, she let us into the cheese making room and gave us a full tour - along with information about how cheese is made. At the end she gave us ample samples and charged us way too little for the cheese (Wilma, you don't charge enough!)
Don't let the somewhat untidy appearance of the yard fool you. This woman knows what she is doing, and you'll be so glad (your tummy too) that stopped by! read more
