Showed up promptly @ 9am and was greeted by hostess Ms. Brissa who's smile and energetic personality asked how many for breakfast which I responded reservations for 10 made previously then she stated the birthday boy. Replied yes then waiter Mr. Tony sat me at our table brought me coffee and water while I waited for the other guests. As I sat waiting pondering life's memories the rest of the birthday party showed up. This quaint restaurant in Balboa Island did not disappoint. Mr. Tony quickly took everyone's orders and returned with coffee and orange juice as we celebrated our 12 year old grandson. A solid choice on Balboa Island. The highlights: -It's bigger than it seems from the outside, with multiple rooms for seating indoors. -They accommodate large parties (I came here with my extended family of 13), and one of the staff members came out to greet us because she remembered speaking with my mom on the phone to make the reservation. The wait staff were all friendly, too. 5 stars for service. -Between the location on the main street of Balboa Island and the theming/decor inside, it has a great atmosphere. The food was good, but not standout -- basically what you would expect for your normal American diner food. I ordered the house clam chowder, tuna bacon sandwich and an Arnold Palmer. The chowder had a nice texture and served hot, but lacked clam chowder flavor. The tuna sandwich was hearty but dry. Very busy for lunch on a weekday. The menu has a lot to offer. I wanted to try something from the Mexican menu or do a simple breakfast plate. Instead I went with one of their many sandwiches. Again I was tempted by the blacked mahi mahi sandwich or BLT but ultimately I decided on the Reuben. The sandwich was overall delightful. Coleslaw was top notch. Super fresh and crunchy. I liked the thickness of the cheese slices used for the grilled cheese. Service was super friendly and warm. Even though they were busy, they took the time to make sure everything was just right. This restaurant on Balboa Island was adorable. It's basically a homey diner with friendly staff and regular customers- something you'd see on tv. I came by myself after walking around the shops. Didn't have to wait too long. I got the french toast which I made into a combo with scrambled eggs and sausage. Let me just say, Wilma's Patio has some of the best scrambled eggs I've had in a minute. The scrambled eggs are buttery and fluffy. So amazing. I'm reminiscing about them as I type. Unfortunately though, the french toast wasn't that good. The maple syrup didn't help and the texture was off in my opinion. Would I come back? I've come to Wilma's patio twice now the first time was with my siblings to test it then I brought my family. They accommodated 11 of us and accepted request of having a Spanish speaking waiter. The food is super delicious and priced very fairly paired with attentive staff there are no complaints on either end. I've been meaning to leave Wilma's a review since I frequent this place fairly regularly. I come here for breakfast and it never disappoints. From the moment of arriving, being greeted by the extremely friendly staff, to the pleasant servers, and until the end. I always order the seafood omelette and it is always so delish! Fluffy and full of seafood, unlike what I have found at any other restaurant. I haven't tried their lunch menu items, but if you love breakfast food at any time of day, which I do (I believe they serve breakfast until they close) you will love this place! Unfortunately, it didn't sit well with me afterward, and my friend found a hair in her Buster Breakfast Bowl, which was disappointing. The location in Balboa is cute and quaint, and it's clearly popular--there was a long line and the service was genuinely good. Everyone was kind and attentive. I love that you can join the waitlist via yelp so you can continue to walk around and enjoy the shops, or find parking! Service is always prompt and easy, and the overall atmosphere is relaxing. Very cute & quaint! There is a *ton* of seating inside, so there's no concern of not getting a table. The service was good and food didn't take too long to come out. It's your traditional diner food, sort of a greasy spoon spot but not too badly in that vein. I got the Jalisco Bomber with shredded beef and it was really good! The fact that there isn't cheese in it made it not ridiculously heavy, and the sourdough bread was really good and not as overwhelming as I imagined it would be. I wasn't expecting it to be a sandwich (I was picturing more of a bread bowl situation) but I had no complaints. My husband got the bacon eggs Benedict and it was swamped in sauce, he said it was pretty heavy and was definitely the diner version of the dish, but not bad. Only complaint is that the hash browns were suspiciously similar to the Idaho Spuds dehydrated hash browns I've bought at Costco, and they weren't crispy. read more

We went to Balboa Island for a little day trip & stopped in at Wilma's Patio. I ordered The Feast which included a grilled cheese sandwich with avocado and tomato & cottage chips. I thought the cottage chips (fries) were very plain. Not much to them. They looked cute but needed some kind of seasoning or salt on them. The grilled cheese sandwich was okay. Nothing too special I guess. Two friends in our group ordered Turkey sandwiches, one friend ordered a fruit plate. Everyone was okay with their sandwiches but no one really loved them. I just love Wilma's- you can tell that the owners really care about the food, their customers AND THEIR STAFF. They are hands on- one of them seems to always be there with a sincere smile- speaking to all their guests . They treat their customers as family. I do not want to tell you how good the boysenberry pie is, for fear they might sell out by the time I want to order a slice around closing. But do get it with ice cream. I split a burger with my son and casually mentioned to the waitress that we were sharing it. When the food came out, they had already cut the burger in half and plated it on two separate plates for us. That kind of attention to detail really stood out. The burger was delicious too.
