What a gem of a place to visit so close to San Antonio. The different glass craftsmanship available in the store is amazing. If you're up to it, you can also go in the shop and watch as articles are shaped, formed and made. The craftsman will also come up and explain what and how they do what they do. A great experience and you'll always want to take something home with you.

The floor lamp is blue with lights off and red when the lights are on.

It was a really fun and educational visit to WGW. They demo in the hot toom .. today, making a bowl and a pumpkin. The team is as talented as they are entertaining. The showroom had a little bit for everyone.. lighting, vases, ornaments, hummingbird feeders, jewelry and more.

Awesome experience to see ! Nice informative workers . There happen to be a last min glass blowing of the ornament class and we were able to watch ! I've seen a show on Netflix of glass blowing but seeing it in person is so much more awesome! They have times you're able to go in there and watch them blow glass ! It is very pricey for the product but worth it with all the hard work and talent put into it !

This was truly a memorable experience! Watching the glass blower create a stunning piece of art was fascinating, and he was kind enough to explain the entire process to us while answering all of our questions. The gallery was filled with an impressive collection of finished glass pieces available for purchase, with a wide range of prices to fit any budget. I was blown away by the incredible attention to detail and the stunning colors and designs of each piece. I highly recommend visiting Wimberley Glassworks if you're ever in the area. It was an educational and informative experience that I won't soon forget.

This place is pretty awesome! The staff is super friendly and talkative and actually wants you to look at their collection and interact with their glassblowers. Ours was a bit hoarse from many art classes but that was ok, we'd seen blowing before. The gallery had so many very intricate designs to choose from. I really liked the cactus designs. They have a bunch of glass installations outside too. I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

Your classic boutique glass blowing business with unexpected pieces. Pretty neat place, good location, beautiful pieces, wonderful staff...looks like a lot of fun for the locals too. However generally places like these are out of my price range of what I can spend on glassware.

Came here for a demo, and the employees were super friendly and great at explaining the different steps of the process. This is a beautiful shop/gallery and definitely worth checking out on your trip to Wimberley!

Nice unique place, art all over such a great experience, and the class to see how the make their glasses is awesome

This place has gorgeous glass works and a glass blowing demonstration while you are there. I love blown glass. Definitely not cheap but gorgeous works of art to take home. None of Tim's pieces are sold wholesale and all of the pieces are one of a kind each piece comes out different each time a piece is blown. It takes almost 2 days for a piece to be created. Mine is the one in the picture.

If you don't want to feel like you're melting, then do yourself a favor and come here when it's either cold or at least cooler outside! That's exactly what my family & I did and we were thankful for it. The owner and his assistant were great - there was a lot to learn and watch in the glass-making arena. They did keep it interesting by talking to the audience (the area they work in has a seating/viewing space) and at the time I last went there were plans displayed for their next projects. If you do happen to go in the warmer temps, there are signs posted that bottled water is available for purchase. After the exhibition, everyone is shuffled into the store area to browse and/or purchase some of their works. Pretty pricey too of course but exceptionally beautiful. Did you find the betta (fish) btw?

    Gorgeous showcase of glassware!

Gorgeous gallery and excellent spot to learn about how high-end glassblowing works. Definite recommend on Highway 12 up towards Wimberley. I found the displays of glass art to be excellent, and I've seen many galleries with glasswork product, from Santa Fe to Laguna Beach. Be sure to take the time to watch one of the many demonstrations of the art by the glassblowers. Pro Tip: stop by the cashier to get a $1 bottle of icy cold water, as it can get hot in the demo room! If there's any shortcoming with the gallery, it's just that you have to be pretty well heeled to take home one of their works of art. I don't blame them for the price point - the artistry is top-notch! Definite recommend!

    My friend in "glass class".

I was entertaining company from California when we just happened to be passing by, this company went out of its way to accommodate my friend from California and give him a one in a lifetime experience. Love these guys!!

Went to the "Dirt Dauber" festival here which was a celebration of local pottery. Artists were set up everywhere, there were workshops/demos/contests, live music, pets and kiddos running around, hot dogs, and free beer (you were simply encouraged to purchase a vessel in which to pour it in). Everyone was ridiculously talented - and so friendly. The local community (san marcos I guess) is so supportive, but folks came out from all over in support. One highlight was they had the pottery wheels set up to play! SO. MUCH. FUN. (especially after beer) I totally want a wheel now, but it's easy to see it takes quite a bit of practice along with significantly more artistry than I possess. (Oh, and that scene from Ghost? Totally realistic because it's seriously erotic for some reason.) I am fortunate enough to be friends with the niece of the owners of the property (Beverley and Billy Ray rock!), and am unbelievably grateful for the opportunity to get a tour of the whole place. This includes their personal home which is a magical maze full of treasures. I have never seen so much art and sculpture and pottery and trinkets and souvenirs and momentos...the list goes on. It's a feast for the eyes. Everywhere you look there is something to explore. The house is divided up by season as well; for example, there is a "summer room" downstairs that has A/C, or the "Spring room" which has a handmade wooden murphy bed platform ON THE BALCONY that pulls down to sleep on. There is a fishtank for a wall by the tub indoors, or one could use the outdoor shower they crafted. They even have their own giant bar attached to the home. Walking around there is surreal; it makes you want an entirely different life. We also got to see a couple studios in which the owners (and visiting artists) work. So friggin cool. They do all sorts of workshops and also host celebrations/festivals/exhibitions of sorts (like the one I went to, or a salsa competition (the kind you eat ;). I encourage you to find any reason you can to get out there. The whole experience felt hippy dippy trippy to the max; by that I mean it didn't reek of patchouli or pot, but rather of a better place and time gone past where everyone was encouraged to be whoeverthefuck they want to be and express that however they wish (in dress, through art, or the way they live, who they love, and so on) and all were accepted, and appreciated. Good music, drank, and people all mashed up. Love.

The Wittliff collects, preserves and shares Southwestern literary, photographic, and musical arts. Sounds stuffy as hell, right? Far from it! It's founder, Austinite Bill Witliff, was a screenwriter of the beloved miniseries Lonesome Dove, and this museum is home to the film's production archives, including props, costumes and other treasures. But that's only one of several collections. Witliff established the museum in 1986 with the encouragement and many gifts from author and folklorist J. Frank Dobie. Musicians and their fans will adore perusing private correspondence and journals, instruments, hats and so much more from people like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Ray Benson and on and on and on. It will take you a happy hour or more to acquaint yourself with its permanent and temporary collections. My favorite room was devoted to mind-blowing photography of native American people taken in the early 1900s by Edward Curtis. It hasn't been that long since they freely roamed and inhabited our wilderness and the beauty - and reality - of these captures took my breath away. If you are a rancher, a descendent of a rancher or even know a rancher, get yourself over there for an enlightened perspective on the lifestyles, struggles and beauty of the people who raise grazing animals. I figure the Witliff has about a dozen theme-specific rooms that are smartly curated and thoughtfully presented. HOT TIPS! - Parking is free on weekends in the Alkek parking lot. - Like all campuses, Texas State is not easy to get around... signage is downright absent or stupid. It doesn't help that hardly anyone at Texas State is aware of the Witliff Collection and can't point you to it. - As you exit the parking lot, make your way to the tallest building right above you. That's the library. Head to the 7th floor.

My friend is a huge King of the Hill fan and was jealous that script archives were held with The Whitliff Collections. I would have asked to view them if I had more time to browse. Only saw one of the old familiar artists I was looking forward to seeing, but there was a good showing of vendors--enough to ring the courthouse once and more booths sitting in the corners. All the vendors were masked, and all the shoppers when I was there. Most of the booths had a big jar of hand sanitizer out and available. Not everyone was good about the 6' rule so I'd just step off onto the grass when people came my way on the sidewalk. There were signs at the entrance requiring masks and stipulating 10 humans max at any booth at one time. I saw big paintings, woodwork, small original prints, LOTS of jewelry booths, leatherwork, wall hangings, one gent had some beautiful guitars and someone else had fabulous knit/crocheted items from children's ski caps and soft toys to cardigans. The Calaboose Museum had a booth so I took the opportunity to buy a t-shirt. It's one of those local treasures I keep meaning to learn more about, and I look forward to visiting when their refurbishment completes in January. For no particular reason, almost all my luck today was with glass. Who knows if any pieces will find their way under someone else's xmas tree or if I will make excuses and hold onto them a little longer.

As far as I know, they don't have an actual stand-alone gallery space at this time (which came as a surprise to me at the time), so don't be mislead by the photos. Here is my experience from an artist standpoint: If you are an artist, and you are approached by Steidel Gallery because they think your work is so great, and would be a great fit for their booth at an event, but the fee is $$$$? Run. I participated in this 2 years ago. They did not fulfill their contractual agreement in terms of wall space they agreed to give me (less then half the size of what I'd paid for) they did 0 marketing (no social media, their website hadn't been updated in years, no print, nothing). Once they've gotten the money, communication becomes nearly non-existent. They requested multiple large paintings from me, which I framed and wrapped carefully for delivery, they only hung 2, and didn't even bring the others to the event location so when people asked about them (because I had done my own marketing) they weren't there. At the show, one of my paintings was left on the floor for over an hour, until I asked them to get it off the floor. This as people walked past with drinks, etc... Absolute disrespect for the work. When I went to pick up the work after the show, they "lost" a painting, nobody knew where it was, which building, and nobody was around including "Steidel" to ask. I had to come back 3 days later, and they still weren't sure where it was, we found it after an hour of calls and texts. It was a terrible experience, and I'm sharing it here now, because I decided that we as artists should look out for each other and I'm hoping this will give a heads up to any other artist who is being solicited to subsidize their event booth. The entire experience felt like a scam. I wouldn't recommend it.
