Having eaten in this particular Wimpy a couple of times, I can safely say I won't be going back any time soon. The most satisfying aspect of the restaurant was actually the décor, which was in the process of being zealously scrubbed clean on my last visit. Unfortunately, the food isn't up to the same standard, being bland and overpriced.
On my first visit I opted for the "open" mushroom burger and chips. At £8.50, I had expected something of gourmet quality. What I received was a rather tasteless meat patty and supermarket-grade thin-cut fries, which were just about cooked. For a lot less, I could have bought a burger meal at a competing fast food restaurant, albeit not on a plate with a knife and fork (another point of contention I had was that the cutlery didn't appear to be particularly clean).
Against my better judgement, I returned more recently and had the 'Wimpy Grill' (consisting of a burger patty, sausage, fried egg and chips), which was a slightly better experience although still considerably overpriced for what you get. Also there was quite a long wait for food to arrive on both visits (around 25 minutes). The staff were friendly, although the demeanour of the person at the till (who appeared to be the manager) left a lot to be desired, and a contribution to the collective tip jar seemed to be expected.
Both times when I have eaten here, the restaurant had been about a quarter full. Considering how close the tables are crammed together, I wouldn't like to be eating here when it's full. Despite the forementioned interior decoration, the atmosphere was dull and grey, like a motorway service station or a hospital restaurant.
Overall it could do with a lot of improvement besides cosmetic aspects; I wouldn't recommend eating here except as a last resort. read more
