Chao is amazing! Seriously, I couldn't wish for a better photographer. Chao follows the idea of a perfect picture - I mean he makes sure that the dress looks equally beautiful on both sides, takes time to improve the posing and surroundings. Even though our photosession took a bit longer, he never mentioned extra minutes. During the photosession he was gentle and patient (you imagine how nervous the bride gets on that day! :-)) Also Chao sends you a couple of samples on the second day after the wedding, so you can see how they come out. I even asked for an extra one, and he was kind to send it to me. The quality is perfect! I hired Chao for my November 4, 2017, wedding and he was AMAZING. He captured some gorgeous pictures in the park after our first look with a beautiful tree. Chao was an absolute pleasure to work with both before and during our wedding. After checking out a variety of other photographers, we found him on Weddingwire and couldn't be happier with how things turned out. During our preliminary correspondence, he was very patient and truly listened to our vision for the event. He was extremely professional, efficient, and flexible, executing our desired shot list and accommodating guests even when our initial timeline was altered. In addition to his professionalism and hard work, Chao is an amazing photographer who was able to perfectly capture even the most difficult shots we requested, including night pictures in the cold of winter. My husband and I booked Chao for our October 1st wedding in New Jersey and couldn't have asked for lovelier photos - we were so happy with the quality of the photos, Chao's overall professionalism, and his kind demeanor the entire time he worked with us (we booked him for our engagement photos as well and received glowing comments from everyone we knew). From the beginning, Chao was very down-to-earth, making sure to build a good rapport with us and explaining his contract fully so that we understood what we would be paying for; any questions we had after our in-person meeting were answered in an extremely polite and timely fashion - I never had to wait more than a day or two to hear back (which, from my experience, can be difficult to pull off for busy photographers!). I got the impression that Chao really understood the value in building good relationships with his clients, and we appreciated that a lot. As for the wedding itself, I was really impressed with Chao's timeliness and how he managed to blend in during the event. He did a great job of including the important shots that I had requested in a prior email, and in spite of our having to have the ceremony inside due to the potential for inclement weather, the shots of our indoor ceremony came out beautifully. Though overcast and misty, he was able to have all of us (husband and I, wedding party, and family) outside for photos and helped us get some of the shots we were expecting to miss due to weather. That really made our day. During the reception, I didn't even notice he was there - partly because we were SO busy, but also because he blended seamlessly into the background, which really alleviated my anxieties (I'm quite camera-shy). He captured a lot of great, candid moments during the night, and his relaxed communication style helped us feel at ease every step of the way. We never felt rushed or pushed around. After the wedding, we received preview shots four days after the wedding (a nice honeymoon surprise!) and we received all of our edited shots two months from the wedding day, which was extremely reasonable. All of the photos were stunning and brought back so many happy memories of our day; our friends, who were there to view them with us on New Years' Day, all had such positive things to say about the photos they saw as well, and we know we'll cherish them for years to come. Chao's talent for capturing special moments, both posed and candid, shines through in his photos, and working with someone so amicable and approachable was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise hectic time planning our wedding. Chao is awesome!! He is kind, patient, and thoughtful. We are SO happy that we used him for our wedding and engagement photos. We thought engagement photos were corny and a waste of money, but after meeting with Chao in person and talking to him via email and phone as the wedding approached, we decided to have a session. His amazingly affordable prices made it any easy decision. He ended up spending time and a half on our session and the photos were incredible. I was completely reassured that we'd made a great choice and that our wedding photos would be excellent. And they were! Chao did a great job catching a mix of candid moments, posed shots, and those funky-artistic shots as well. He was more than happy to do whatever we asked of him and didn't try to tack on extra costs for random crap the day of the wedding (not that we asked for random crap). Our photos came back to us so quickly that we were still on our honeymoon when they were ready and we didn't look at them till much later. We picked 60 for retouching--there were about 370 photos total for a 6.5 hour wedding--and got them all back on a disc about a week later. Picking which photos to retouch was tricky because each photo brought to mind such great meaning and memory, but at the same time it was easy knowing that they looked great even without being retouched. Photography, I think, is one of the MOST IMPORTANT parts of your wedding, because it's the one part you can literally keep forever, even after your brain turns to oatmeal. We felt so lucky to have found the perfect photographer to capture those great moments flawlessly and without costing more than 6% of the total cost of our wedding. Crazy-good prices, crazy-good outcome. One tip: be sure to make a list of things you definitely want pictures of and share it with him. I wish I had more pictures of the venue, flowers, and other small details, but I didn't think about it until afterwards and we were all more focused on pictures of our guests having a great time. read more

Chao is an absolute gentleman and was so helpful in photographing our elopement. He was very easy to get in touch with by email or phone and quick to respond. We didn't really know what we wanted at the start, but he gave us great advice and ideas on locations, and he scouted the venue (Central Park) ahead of time. He was a calm presence on the big day, and did what needed to be done to get the best shots, including moving people out of the way. We got back 100 edited photos less than three weeks after the ceremony, and we were delighted at the results. We were not happy with our wedding photos. There were some basic wedding shots that he didn't take...None of me in my full length dress. None of the back of my dress. None of me and my mom. Very few photos of me and my husband kissing or doing anything other than posed standing next to each other. And of course we don't know what is missing until we get the photos back. I shouldn't have to tell a professional photographer the basic shots we assumed he would take!! We didn't even like any photos enough to print out and frame. I wish I had chosen someone else to capture the day. He was a very nice man but I would not recommend him for your wedding. read more

Having done some research my wife found Windcatcher Photography's portfolio online and was immediately taken with his work. Having then checked reviews, we decided to contact him. His photography and manner is of the highest order. He is not a dominating personality, who barks out orders. He works with the couple to provide the shot required and always put our needs first. Chao is a wonderfully polite and charming man. As an aside, he said something to me about my wife and I that I will never forget. What was it? That stays between Chao and I, but suffice to say it was one of the most perceptive and nicest things anyone has said about us. I bring this up because he has a really keen eye and notices things that other may not, which meant some amazing and unexpected photos of real quality. One example: My father wasn't able to attend our wedding, as he is no longer with us. We honoured him with a boutonniere placed on a chair to the side of the ceremony. It wasn't obvious at all, but Chao had the foresight to recognise that this was for someone special and produced a beautiful and classy photo without prompting. I had forgotten to get a picture, and was delighted to see this in the images he sent over. Two weeks after the event, we received the full colour corrected set of images. Wow. Just Wow. My husband and I recently got married in May and hired Chao as our photographer. Our wedding was small/intimate and fairly short. Before finding Windcatcher Photographer, I had inquired from other photographers about their services. Most were charging a ridiculous amount.
