Italian Beef (served dipped with hot giardiniera) and Fries with a drink. Monday's lunch special.

Best Italian Beef in town, as far as I'm concerned. Awesome fries - they're those lightly battered crispy fries. Serve yourself soft drink refills (which is always a plus for me in a counter service place). I don't know what Skip B is talking about with regard to being dirty. I found this place exceptionally clean. Even the window sills were free from dust. As for the dining room being empty, they seem to have quite a bit of drive through traffic at lunch time. Besides my husband and myself, there were also four other tables full of guys - mainly construction/manual labor type guys. All in all, it was exactly what I was looking for - a great beef sandwich in CU. YUM!

Restaurant review There goes my waist... I've work at the hospital for about a year and was wondering if there was any grease joints around. I'm completely surprised that this is located one street away from the hospital as it has classic Chicago foods including hamburgers, fried fish, hot dogs, and gyros. The food is made fresh to order so you do have to wait a little bit. The owners quite friendly and proud of his food. The first time I went I got a philly cheese steak. It was cooked perfectly and use quality ingredients. There was ample amount of fries with my combo and free refills while you eat in-house. The second time I came was on the weekend and I had their fried chicken and fish special. The chicken tenders are quite heavenly with their own dipping sauce. I went with the honey mustard and left the tribe the barbecue sauce. The food coming out very hot it takes a while to cool off, but you know that the food is fresh. What is surprising about this combo is that you can pick the type of fish you want. This includes tilapia and I believe walleye. My only concern about the fried fish was that it seemed to be over seasoned with the lemon salt. This was served over a bed of fries which was a little bit too much food for me. I may have found my new favorite grease joint in Champaign. Pros: Cheap inexpensive and fresh food although not the healthiest Cons: Long wait times especially for their busy Hidden deals: Their daily meal deals please check out my photos for details Health code rating: B to C. I don't want to believe the health code rating but they seem to have issues with food temperature http://champaign.il.gegov.com/champaign/estab.cfm?facilityID=1478

Pretty good cheap cheap food. It's Chicago in spirit, but not authentic by a long shot.

This place has really good food. The dogs, burgers and my favorite, the Philly Cheese Steak.

With it being one of my favorite restaurants back in Chicago, it completed my search for a restaurant. I ended up ordering online via Uber Eats delivery being that I was comfortably settled in for the day, plus watching college football. Portillo's Champaign had a 4.4 rating out of (1,500+) which was the assurance I needed that I would have a quality experience. On the menu, I was interested in ordering either the Plant-based Garden Dog, or the Breaded Whitefish Sandwich. Out of both, I ended up choosing the Plant-based Garden Dog, which is highly a favorite of mine at Portillo's. Whether it be Grubhub or now Uber Eats, I love ordering online because it is convenient. Much praise to the Uber Eats delivery driver, Alexis, for arriving with my order in a reasonable time, as well as meeting me in front of the hotel as requested. And Alexis also confirmed that it was me grabbing the order, which I cannot thank him so much for. My mouth salivated as I took pictures of my order to share on yelp. The Crinkle-cut French Fries were the first item I started with eating and oh my they did not disappoint! While my eyes were peeled to the Georgia Bulldogs vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets college football game on television, my fingers were grabbing French Fries by the second to eat. As a lover of the Plant-based Garden Dog, these eyes of mine lit up prior to taking my first bite. A bite that left me satisfied as my tastebuds were met with the delicious garden dog and its toppings while at the same time poppy seeds fell from the bun. I swear! I can eat a Plant-based Garden Dog each week and still be satisfied with it like I never had it before, tehehe. Now for dessert, the Chocolate Cake Slice was the cherry on top to a satisfying dinner ordered from Portillo's. I would be lying if I said that my mouth was not salivating prior to sticking my fork inside of it. And each forkful of that moist chocolatey piece of heaven left my mouth salivating along with a devilish grin on my face; there was no chocolate left behind, I swear. Being that I had a great ordering experience, I would surely order from Portillo's Champaign again when in the city of Champaign whether it be Uber Eats delivery or takeout. I got the Italian beef with sweet & hot peppers with the gravy on the side (I don't like my sandwich falling apart on me) and french fries. My husband got the hot dogs, which came dressed with a dill pickle, tomatoes, and hot peppers, and a side of onion rings. We also splurged with the yummy-looking desserts (strawberry shortcake and lemon cake) in the cooler near the register. Everything was so good. The beef (which there was plenty of!) had so much flavor even without the gravy. The bun it was on was hearty enough to hold it. The hot dogs tasted good quality. The fries were good (not at all greasy), and the onion rings had such a good flavor, not overly breaded. The desserts were a perfect ending. The restaurant was very clean (including the bathrooms). There was someone cleaning something (including the walls) the entire time we were there. I wish we had one closer to where we live here in Ohio!

More than five years have passed since I even had a Five Guys burger, which would have been from their Medford, MA location next to Wellington Station. Finally, after 3 years of living in Urbana, IL and splurging on fast-food burgers everywhere, the time had come to give their Champaign joint a try. Given how scary past Yelp reviews describe them, do they fulfill our Five Guys' experiences of old and carry on their reputation? The answer: A big, fat, dripping with cheese and fresh toppings, YES! Spacious, clean, free peanuts for the taking, freshly made in front of you, and served piping hot, we were reminded last night why we adore Five Guys. That burger, a cross between Culver's and Wendy's (by my quick estimation), was divine. Those cajun fries were as tasty and addicting as I remembered. The service, while not above and beyond cheery, was communicative and all that was necessary. Yes, they are pricey, but you do get a very filling burger with as many free toppings as you want. We also were given a bag full of those cajun fries, although we were spared extra regular fries we had ordered, oddly enough. All that considered, we are very happy to have Five Guys back in our lives once again.
