There is a very good chance that they have the wine (or spirit for that matter) that you are looking for, and if not they are generally happy to order it for you. Stopping over here this summer, I was on a mission for some really excellent wines for my shore-side, Covid-induced, mostly-isolated vacation. After WholeFoods, I sauntered over and made my way through the front door. Immediately to the left is their "Spirits" room, and all your fun and fancy liquors and liqueurs await your selection. I found some great vermouth alternatives for my Manhattans. Yesss! Then leaving the spirits room is the grab-and-go -- but you should really pay, first, then go -- fridge and mini-bar-fix shelves (see below). I won't bore you with the usuals, they're all in the racks in front of you. THE REAL FUN BEGINS IN THE CELLAR ROOM! All the way in the back, and on the right, is the "Cellar Room". Climate controlled, slide the door and close it after you. (Please don't handle the bottles. They are at temperature.) I'm partial to French reds, and I was gleeful and giggly the whole time! '96 was a great year, and I picked up everything they had. Zazazaza! Even some of the '10s and an '09 to save for next year (2021). I win again! (Think Edna from Incredibles, that's so me right now!) I was literally steps into this store when I was greeted by the "clerk" CURSING at me. Apparently I had inadvertently (and unknowingly) walked behind the countertop where the register is located. It was a total accident. But instead of a simple, polite acknowledgement of my faux-pas I was aggressively berated. Not only was the clerk's reaction incredibly rude, he acted in a proud manner when I told him "maybe I won't buy anything here". I am far from a child, and a pretty serious wine, whiskey, and beer connoisseur... I was hoping to make a purchase here based on what seemed to be a great selection. NOPE. My experience was quite possibly the worst customer service I've ever experienced, and I was in the store less than 2 minutes. Stay away from this shop. read more

Totally overpriced! I used to buy a specific well known brand of a wine from an other liquor store with a price of $13-14. In this place it is $18!!! More than %25 expensive! This is my second and last visit of that store. Are you wondering my first experience!? Don't worry it is also a bad experience with a staff recommendation. Even I couldn't drink my 3rd sip! The "new" WineWise has a constantly updated selection (including some esoteric labels and hard to find offerings, including an expanding section of sake), and a knowledgeable staff that opened my eyes and taste buds to spirits I wouldn't have tried otherwise. My rating is based solely on my experience shopping on their website and dealing with customer service via e-mail. I wanted to purchase a special gift box of champagne in time for a friend's graduation and 2 weeks prior I ordered it from the WineWise website since the price was reasonable, the website indicated the item was in stock, and I live in Queens...so even if it was a slow delivery, I'd get it in plenty of time. I received a confirmation of my order via e-mail and I waited. I hadn't received any updates or communications from WineWise and I honestly forgot that I had placed the order since I was sure it was a done deal. But a few days prior to the ceremony I still didn't have my shipment. I contacted customer service via e-mail and they responded within the business day to let me know that they were having trouble sourcing my gift box. I said that the website indicated the item was in stock and here's an excerpt of their reply: "Availability on our website does not always reflect real-time inventory, but we always do our best to hunt things down via our suppliers when that is the case." The email goes on to say that they have something in stock that isn't what I ordered and they'd happily charge me and ship that instead. My other option in the email stated that I could always cancel the order and shop with a competitor if timing was an issue. -_- WineWise, here are some tips to be a successful merchant in the 21st century: Your website is just as important as your brick and mortar building. If you demand high quality in the store, do the same online...that's where the busy people with money shop. If someone orders an item you don't have in stock, immediately e-mail, call, send smoke signals, do anything to give the customer a chance to make a decision...don't just hide and hope that no one notices that you made a mistake. If a customer expresses dissatisfaction and your practices contributed towards it, it costs nothing to say, "I'm sorry." Two little words that could be the difference between the customer forgiving quickly, or spending 10 minutes writing a negative Yelp review. read more

They do a great job there because I always get compliments on "my" choices! Last time I bought a cognac in a presentation box and store manager spent an extra minute or two to wrap it up nicely. I traveled to the store from downstate New York due to advertised pricing on the website, I had called the store to confirm the pricing and was told "yes the pricing was correct". When I arrived at the store I was informed by the gentleman behind the register that there was "something" wrong with the website and they would be unable to honor the pricing that was advertised. Had a great experience at Wine Wise. Ordered a few bottles of fairly high-end whiskies through their website (great prices), but I had to pick these up from their Greenwich store (per the policy on the website, they do not ship out spirits). Was worth the drive for me (from about 40 miles away) when taking into account the price savings compared to my local store. When I arrived to pick up the order, one of the items in my order was not available (even though I was told it was available a few days before). The store manager / owner (?) named Wyeth was very apologetic about this and promised to investigate and, once found, ship the bottle to me. I was on my way back home when Wyeth called to inform me that the bottle I had ordered was accidentally sold the day before. He then immediately offered to ship me another bottle that was the same brand, but much more high end. This happened on a Friday and by Monday I was in possession of the new bottle. The only "negative" I had was that it took a while for the order to be prepared from the time I placed the order on the website to the time it was ready for pick up. However, this is partly attributable to the fact that some of the whiskies I had ordered were special order items that you don't normally find on the shelf. Wine Wise kept me informed of the progress of the order (for example, when they realized they could not source a specific Japenese whiskey I had ordered, they informed me via a phone call and an e-mail). I certainly won't ding them a star for this as I was kept informed of the progress. Overall, a fantastic experience. They certainly have made a repeat customer here. read more

Fairly good selection; however, completely disheartened over their pricing. Buyer beware!!! I bought a bottle of Blanton's ($50 - but $40 for in-store pickup), as well as a bottle of Tullibardine 20 year ($170). Originally went to the store, due to the price of the Blanton's (my favorite bourbon) being approximately $10 cheaper than my local store - score! However, when they rang it up, they rang me up at the online price, as opposed to the "in store pickup" price. Granted, they were very nice and fixed the pricing, once I asked about it BUT... A day later, at Christmas dinner, I was asked by a friend for a recommendation on a nice bottle of Scotch (something I know very little about; however, I literally just bought a bottle the day before, at the recommendation of the staff at WineWise), so, seeing I wanted to support the "local" store, I sent her the link to WineWise. However, when I pulled the bottle up on the webpage, I noticed that the price I paid was the online price ($170) and not the "in store pickup" price of ($112)! That's a difference of $58!!! As such, I called the store to see if they would be willing to provide me with a refund (even told them that I would use the money to purchase another bottle of something in the store); however, was told they were unwilling to do that, as you need to mention the "in store pickup" price to them prior to purchasing the item. Plus, was told that their sales change frequently - however, in 1 day? Better yet, the sale price took effect on Christmas??? I certainly don't want to steer people away from this store, as I do like the "local" feel to the store; however, the "used car lot" pricing certainly leaves me with a bitter taste - hence, I will not be back. Not only that, come to find out, the pricing on the Tullibardine (again, I'm not a Scotch drinker) is about $40 more expensive than any of my other local shops, so not sure how their other prices compare (outside of the Blanton's).
