While cooking your meal, the chef will keep you entertained (e.g. by juggling eggs). We had several courses and everything was really tasty. You will not leave hungry. Once I am back in Birmingham, I will definitely return to this restaurant and I highly recommend you to eat there too if you are interested in or love Japanese food.

We were a large party of 19 so we had 2 chefs and they were a brialliant double act: we had flames, flying eggs (smashed eggs) numerous selfies and rude figures made with veggies! And don't forget the food... For £22 (they do a cheaper pre theatre menu) you get starter (3 mini pieces), salad, miso soup, your main choice (protein, fried rice and veggies) and of course dessert. all mains cooked quickly with garlic, soy and butter what's not to like....inwentnfornthe steak and it was cooked spot on (medium rare) If you are looking for an overall experience with a group of friends these are the guys to go and see

The house special dragon roll was my favorite, prawn tempura wrapped with eel and tobiko in a nice bbq mayo sauce. The Ten Ichi ramen is the way to go to have it all. Prawn tempura, tasty fried chicken, mushrooms, wakame, naruto and tofu. Only thing missing was the half egg. Noodles were too soft soaking up the tonkatsu broth. The pork katsu ramen was average, egg breaded pork was not as crispy as the fried chicken. Side of vegetable tempura was a nice assortment of delicious veggies. Overall it was a pleasant experience in a comfortable setting. Great date spot with something for everyone.

As it's the opening day, they only had limited stocks of ramen dishes. Fortunately the Tonkatsu was available and the broth didn't disappoint a hot thick 18 hours simmered broth added a powerful porky flavour, which was unique to its brand. The pork belly had a rich creamy texture which added flavour to the broth the longer you left it in it. The homemade noodles were infused with soy and miso, so it definitely added a salty taste which compliments the broth. The gyozas were very good with a light crispy texture coating, it complimented well with Tonkatsus own chilli oil. The chicken Karaage sadly didn't do too much justice and unfortunately was a little bit dry, therefore I would t recommend. Tonkatsu has made itself a marker for a ramen place and will hold on this title as long as it remains. I'm coming again soon!

It serves contemporary Japanese cuisine and the concept aims to fuse dining with entertainment. It is part of a small international group of restaurants and this is their first UK opening outside London. I spent a couple of hours at the launch party last night (thanks to Holly J!) and my first impressions were very good. You enter through an unassuming looking gate in to a very pleasant courtyard with lots of seating and umbrellas which I am sure will a lovely place to sip a cocktail on a sunny day (if we ever get any!). The decor of the restaurant itself is smart, very sleek and everything you would expect for a high-end Japanese restaurant. The staff were extremely welcoming and we were immediately offered a drink from a selection of wine, beer or cocktails. I tried one of their signature cucumber cooler cocktails made with Langleys gin which was very refreshing and surprisingly strong! There were lots of tasty canapes on offer ranging from sushi to mini bruschettas and sweet treats like mini meringues and macarons. Having briefly sampled the food and drink here, I'm now very keen try the full menu and look forward to visiting again soon.

Usually, it's not something I choose when I'm at a Japanese restaurant, so my expectations weren't particularly high. For lunch I had shrimp tempura w/curry and washed it down with a Coke. It wasn't too bad, but I thought it was a bit expensive for what I got. I'm used to having a bit more rice for soaking the curry sauce up, and I thought there would've been at least some dressing on the side for the salad. The shrimp tempura itself was cooked fine - nice and crunchy with the panko crumbs. It seems like everyone who comes here makes a bee-line for the bento boxes, so perhaps I'll try one of them. I wish their shop was local too - it would be nice to have a Japanese store in Birmingham (ideally next door) among Wing Yip and Seoul Plaza.

When we asked the server if the "chicken and mushroom" noodle dish we pointed at had chicken in, despite there not being any chicken mentioned on the ingredients, we were told it did it it came out absent of any meat. Not great enough to try again, but I'll probably pick a different variety next time. Mediocre it isn't. But good is such a bland word... Try the green tea latte!
