The work the ceiling "expert" did.
Heather P.

I would leave less stars, but Yelp won't let me. My parents had some work done on their house. They wanted to change their shower/tub combo into a shower with a bench. The sales man was nice, came to the house, explained everything. That's where the good ends (and as a sign of things to come, he no longer works for Wingler). The first (yes you read that right, first) crew shows up and does the demo. The next crew comes to start the plumbing work, they have no clue what they are doing. They have no idea how to change a dual handle operation into a single handle. They nearly set the house on fire while doing some of the welding. Put a hole in the wall (that wasn't supposed to happen), still don't know how they did that. My Mom was walking by the bathroom and found one of the workers going through the medicine cabinet and messing with her meds. Claims he was looking for a band-aid, but last time I checked, they don't come in pill bottles. And since when do construction crews not have their own first aid kits? At some point my Dad ends up doing most of the plumbing work himself (which is why that is the only thing we don't have a problem with). The next crew shows up to do more work, most of the previous crew we are told no longer works for the company (so we were told). Much of the rest of the work goes ok. The person who did the ceiling is not very good at it because you can tell where old meets new, and he was an "expert". The bathroom looks nice, but we all know looks are deceiving. The shower is a low threshold, not a true zero barrier, but it's only about an inch tall. Well, it leaks, like crazy. We complained, and complained, they came out & looked at it, did nothing. We complained some more, it was still leaking, it was getting worse. They brought out the guy who represented the door company, he recommended replacing the doors. They told us it would take 3 months for the doors to come in (hello Home Depot, Lowe's or Menards have them in stock, and can order them quicker than that). So it was supposed to be here before Christmas 2016, it didn't get here until after. The new doors don't look the same quality, they look cheaper (plastic vs glass). The shower still leaks, the door (the 2nd set) still don't look like they were installed properly, and no refund was given for the difference in the cost of the doors or for the work my Dad did. I would NOT recommend this company for a dog house, let alone your house. My parents are looking into filing complaints with the BBB & Attorney General. Please look elsewhere for a better company.

A few days later, Kevin followed up to check on the roof, pick up any remaining nails, and answer all my questions. But is the company reputable? And do you really want to go with a relatively new company even if is owned by your buddy. He decided, no. Newman is competitive with hundreds of 5 star reviews. He went with Newman. Subsequently we had a hail storm and neighbors were advising us to get our roof checked out. Our roof was 20 years old. I wanted to be honest with the insurance company and not submit a claim unless Tyler from Newman, who came out to give us an estimate, was sure we needed a new roof and we suffered damage beyond normal wear and tear. Plus we had 2 houses. Well one needed a new roof and the other one likely has another couple of years left. As an aside, if you turn in a claim to your insurance company, even if it is denied, you risk higher premiums or cancelation. That is why it is important to have Newman Roofing spend time assessing. In our case, our roof was more wear and tear with minimal hail. Dan and his guys were on time, even early. Weather has consistently been in the mid 90's. I was worried. But Newman keeps them well supplied with hydration. 14 man crew meant lots of vehicles, even a dump truck but they were minimally disruptive to our neighbors. Furniture moved, netting put up to minimize construction mess on house and garden areas. And then they went to work. All I can say is WOW. I am so pleased. When they were finished, the cleaned up all the mess, including using a magnetized thing for nails in driveway, patio and grass. The yard, the patio, the driveway, the porches are SPOTLESS. I highly highly highly recommend Newman Roofing. They did my kid's. They did this roof and in 2 years they will do our other roof. Price is good too.

Great experience when they installed my roof almost 10 years ago. Since then, in a relatively…read moreshort period of time, I had to call them because of leaks-leaks through the kitchen exhaust fan onto the stove, leaks through the water heater exhaust vent onto the basement floor, leakage/seepage through my chimney bricks, shingles not properly aligned with my gutter-such Of those 4, they only properly corrected two issues The 5th time was prior to July 4th this year when I noticed a place in the ceiling paint that appeared and felt damp. Called them. The person who came on the 1st was nice, went on the roof, said he saw nothing. Looked in the crawl space from a ladder--he didn't go in, and said it was a condensation/venting issue-they installed the roof vent when they installed the roof, and that someone else from the company would follow up. Emailed them on the 13th about the f/u. No response. Called another company. He went up took photos and there was a bullet hole in the shingle. He repaired it immediately. As the 614 inspection was done before the 4th, and I noticed the dampness in the ceiling before the 4th, the hole was likely there on the 1st when he said there was nothing wrong. Even if the roof warranty would not cover that kind of damage, it would have been nice to have received accurate information on the 1st, so that I could have had it repaired. It is probably good that they didn't follow up because I might have ended up spending unnecessary dollars to 'ventilate,' when ventilation was not the source of the problem. Nevertheless, since it is so close to the end of the warranty, I question whether they didn't follow-up because they didn't want to honor the warranty. To me, properly diagnosing and correcting 2 out of 5 issues after installation-4 within the first 3 years of installation, that are directly related to properly sealing the water heater vent pipe, properly installing flashing, installing the appropriate kitchen exhaust vent or properly aligning the edge shingles isn't stellar performance. As I have learned the hard way, there's more to roof installation than nailing on shingles.
